  1. Pm sent
  2. Friday afternoon split some softwood from the pile. Never been covered just left to the elements. Logs were put undercover, and moisture tested today. Tested 20 logs, all measured 20% or under in the middle.
  3. Ok thanks for the info. No prices on the website, how much was it if you don't mind me asking?
  4. Hi, I'd be very interested to see what you think of the rt400. Can you split at waist height or is it mainly for billets?
  5. Whereabouts are you, or the guy selling at £40. I'll buy all he has...
  6. Second that. Excellent firewood in my opinion. I'm bored of telling people who only want hardwood why it's so good....
  7. Hi, what were the set up costs etc, and are the pellets cost effective v using seasoned logs?
  8. Nice one Katie, thanks.
  9. I completely warped the 5mm steel log guard by over firing. The difference in thermometer reading from the top of the stove to 12 inches up the flue pipe is very different!
  10. Where do you exactly place the thermometer? I would have thought as close to the fire as possible, not on the flue pipe.
  11. We have a Burley stove and recently had to phone the customer service team regarding etched glass. Was told that it may be due to over firing. At first i was thinking how on earth can a 12 kw stove in normal circumstances be over firing. In a nutshell they were brilliant, and replaced the glass, but only when I told them i DID NOT use a stove flue pipe thermometer ( which I did! )They say that when the flue gases reach higher up the flue they have been cooled by the completed combustion in the firebox and therefore don't register a true and safe reading, leading to over heating the stove. This makes good sense to me and now i dont use it.
  12. It's all down to efficiency, surely. Pay half decent money for a stove, steel or cast, I'd want to use less fuel for maximum heat.
  13. But isn't high grade steel stronger than cast iron? Obviously the cheaper Chinese made stoves are to be ignored.
  14. Alycidon?
  15. Pal of mine wants 2 stoves installed. His wife rang her sweep who informed her he was now an installer of stoves, Hetas registered etc etc. The first thing he said to her when she mentioned the stoves was " only buy cast iron, the steel ones are rubbish" Surely that's utter bull****! I told him mine ( a Burley ) was steel and a great stove....
  16. Yup, think I agree. Cheers
  17. I sell logs so basically I have unlimited supply
  18. Current set up is central heating and a wood stove. The stove pretty much heats the house, so the gas does the water. Our boiler is in the garage ( double ) accessed by the house as well as the garage doors. What I would like to know, is there a reasonably straight forward way of putting a stove in the garage, linking up to the boiler / pipe work and either heating the water in the upstairs water cylinder or putting a thermal water store in the garage and somehow heating that via the stove but plumbed into the heating system so as direct hot water from taps etc. As you can tell, I'm no plumber but am curious to know if it's cost effective or more hassle than it's worth!! Cheers
  19. We see "H1" pretty much every week in our local supermarket car park. It's on an old Toyota. Must be worth hundreds of thousands
  20. i-Gleditsia-triacanthos ?
  21. I thought the only difference between a multi fuel and a dedicated wood burner was having a grate? Maybe that's the same as a riddle plate?
  22. Likewise. Bought the liner and fittings from flu direct, £40 a metre or so, roofer mate dropped it down the chimney, took photos etc and all signed off for a few hundred pounds. Can't stand all this £1000 bollocks to fit a liner. Total rip off
  23. This is on the base of an oak, is it something to worry about? Thanks
  24. Hi, what stove did you replace it with? Any comparisons?
  25. My pals been told this is is the best stove for his requiremnets. Room is approx 25 x 12 ft stove is max 8kw output. What's the efficiency compared to a Burley or a Charnwood? He's been quoted £1300 plus vat.... My view is its all about efficiency, not so much the looks?.
