  1. Luton pensioner killed by falling tree Police were called to the scene by the ambulance service A pensioner has died after being crushed by a falling tree in a wooded area in Luton, police say. Officers were called to Rotten Corner, a green space between Sundon Park Road and Marsh Farm, at 12:45 BST on Wednesday. Police said the 73-year-old man was attempting to cut the tree down when it fell on him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious. Luton Borough Council said it was investigating what happened. A spokesman said: "The council's parks are maintained regularly and action taken immediately if any issues are identified following health and safety inspections. "Initial findings suggest this incident was a tragic accident, however it would be inappropriate to comment further until the full facts have been ascertained." It seems that the Police report say he was attempting to cut down the tree, when it fell on him. Can only report on the facts as they are presented by the report given, I believe the same quote you mentioned except in full. easy-lift guy
  2. I might be able to get them here if your interested. Send me a pm. easy-lift guy
  3. Just curious was it an accident that he was cutting down a tree and the tree fell on him or was it a choice?. I suspect he made a choice and it was not a wise one at that. Some people make wise choices and live another day:thumbup1: Others make the news and either people feel sorry for what happen to them, or maybe the victim would have never been a victim in the first place if he had made a wise choice. I hope when I turn 73 I have enough wits to still understand and comprehend my limitations. easy-lift guy

  7. bigdave, thanks for calling a spade a spade. When I have caught people stealing from me, I get the same answers and I am more or less totally fed up with anyone stealing from me or anyone else. easy-lift guy
  8. Really nice egg. Try googling your question, you may be surprised how many folks have had similar issues and fixes. easy-lift guy
  9. Your profit margin after your expenses is key. You can always lower your profit margin in order to secure work once in a while, however this is a practice I would discourage on a regular basis. If you have the time to work on weekends part time to make up any funding requirements do so. Remember this can be temporary until more work becomes available. Being in business for yourself is great if your cut out for the job. Being profitable after each job and moving forward can be more challenging. easy-lift guy
  10. Pretty much agree with everyone else's opinion, except when you do make the move and your girlfriend ask about why be honest with her and agree with her opinion. I believe she has both of your best interest in mind. easy-lift guy

  15. Can you say Bernie Madoff?, how about a Ponzi scheme? If one wishes to go back to a mercantile form of exchange so be it. On the other hand 1 million of something that is not actually real is still only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it:sneaky2:. Being able to access a value to something based on the number of people willing to buy into the concept is all well and good, PT Barnum had a name for these folks, Suckers and according to him one was born every minute:sneaky2:. easy-lift guy
  16. Depends. Would you be purchasing an on going concern or starting out fresh? People need a place to keep their stuff and at least here state side this type of business can be profitable but not a part time venture. Some of the more successful operations have the owners or managers living on site to be able to offer the best customer service and control of the business. This type of business is very much by the book and is full time for sure. Folks over here can and do make a good living as owner/operators however time away is very precious with 24/7-365 responsibility. easy-lift guy
  17. I would move my schedule forward to accommodate my next customer. Things happen all the time and I have had to do this on more than One occasion. Usually the customer is very happy to have the job done sooner or to have an order filled sooner. Looking unprofessional is One thing , having the flexibility and understanding of your customers is priceless. easy-lift guy
  18. If you have not had a complete physical of late make the time and have one done. Ruling out any physical issues in the first place will help you better formulate a plan to over come your anxiety spells for now. The amount of stress and strain and how one deals with it depends on having a plan or Two on the books ready to implement. You don't seem shy so let your wife know what's going on so your both working off the same sheet of music. Take care. easy-lift guy

  20. mad matty, you were more than accommodating with your potential competition. I believe A 48 hour call back to you is in order for any future jobs. Based on the updates you have provided it reads like he was job shopping to me. Unless the opposite party has a real emergency like a death in the immediate family or a serious accident preventing any contact, I would charge for a full day of lost work. Make sure you have that in writing and signed off by your general contractor. Time is the single greatest commodity that can not be recovered and is generally undervalued. easy-lift guy

  23. What's even better is you have a plan:thumbup1:. Stay on the straight and narrow. Remember in life as well as business your toughest competition will be yourself. I financed my first business in house and grew slowly from there. After I had established my self in the business community and had my Bank as a customer I started my Second business with funding from my bank which financed my loan. Within 5 years that was paid for free,clear:thumbup1: The Easy-Lift Harness company was formulated the same way as my Second business, except in this case I allowed my customers to handle the financing for my expansion. Always good to have additional plans of securing funding, when and where possible. easy-lift guy
  24. Happy Easter to everyone. easy-lift guy
  25. When anyone produces a quality product at a reasonable price and is on time with same product, no one could ask for more. Customers like the one you have described are Golden and like to be treated the same way you would like to be treated. In life as in business everything depends on you, especially if you are the company. All the best, Hodge! easy-lift guy
