  1. As i said above if the likes of DVLA VOSA custom & excise cant print the same information on there seperate sites and agree on given subjects, not much hope of us getting it right is there, but to be honest i dont think any one i have spoke to inside DVLA know what they are doing, as i was told no on one subject, but it dont say that on your ,GOV website, oh i will have to check, then they ask me what page is that on as i cant find it ???
  2. There is more grey areas on this subject than the book has, 50 Shades of grey, Forestry will be ok when it comes to the crunch tho,
  3. If you do change or try it on your tractor hydraulics, i would think you have hydraulic oil in the trailer system ? and there will be UTTO oil in the back end of the tractor, dont try it as you will be diluting the oil in the tractor you will need to flush it through to a seperate container first, if not done correct this can cause some expensive damage to the gearbox as thinning the oil down and hydraulic oil has very little lubricating bodies in it,
  4. Well they have said this a few times now and its never happened ? fuel wont be a problem at all, and the registeration classes there are several that come with in the agri/forestry group its all about selecting the right one, i have done a bit of home work on this and from what is stated in black n white by the government is there for all to see its just bloody finding it thats problem as time you have gone from one link to another and then again and again, and as for not being able to carry a load if reg as a tractor may be but there is ways round that one,
  5. I am a long way from London, and its a place i have never been or intend to go to, the nearest i have been is Santapod and knebworth, the world seems to get to busy once past Birmingham, it would take me a day to get to london in the truck,
  6. To put it in a context of, its like opening a massive tin of worms and trying to get them all to lie straight, what one GOV website says its then different on another GOV website which makes things very confuseing and if the GOV or controlling bodies cant all agree and get it right there aint much chance of us doing it,
  7. I think Withams have about done with the Leyland Daf,s now, there may be a odd one go through now and then but not many, but saying that they did have several brand spanking new ones that where reserve units, Withams deal with all MOD dissposal now and when i first thought about one of these trucks withams where putting hundreds through and they where very very cheap, the one i looked at yesterday was in the last big batch and i know what it sold for, There is a DECE cert with it which is basically a MOD release doc that you submit along with registeration form to DVLA, i have spoke to some one who did a Bedford tm a few years back, i did look at the RB44 my self but its not big enough as i need to be moving 10-12 tonne of timber at once,
  8. No its not road registered at the moment, but there should be no problem getting it registered ,
  9. There is so many grey areas with Mogs, tractors and other odd ball trucks/tractors like this that at some point they will all be chancing it, he was just very unlucky on the day,
  10. I am down in the yard tomorrow so will get dimensions and a few photos for you,
  11. I know of several lads/companys who run unimogs and i dont think any of them are with in the law and fully legit, one lad know who runs a iner city arb buissnes got caught with his Mog after some one ran in to it and plod attended, the case is still on going 3 yrs later and the organisations involved are VOSA, DVLA Customs and excise and his insurance company so far its cost him about 25k, so i need to get this right,
  12. Dont get the bit about, but depends where you are located ?
  13. Hi all been pondering on buying a bigger truck than a Cabstar for a while now, Been thinking of a Ex MOD Leyland DAF for a while now, i have done a bit of home work and things dont look to bad for me to purchase one with working in forestry, I went to look at the one below yesterday and OK its not new or looking pretty but its solid, its very very basic with no creature comforts and it wont break any land speed records, Ok it wants work on it and a tidy up but if i get stuck in it wont take long, it has a Boughton 5.5 tonne hydraulic winch fitted with 70 mtr cable all working, truck has done 38k, its gross weight is 11600kg and tare is around 6 tonne but that can be lowered as there can be some items removed from it, thinking of fitting a crane and grab on the on the arse end, and then probably a trailer behind it at some point, So can anyone shed any light on a few issues ! and all comments will be welcome, Registeration class Taxation class insurance MOT running costs Vosa checks opporater liecence and what ever anyone can think of !!
  14. I have a small diesel tank off a newson 1 tonne high lift dumper sat there doing nothing, it will be approx 15-20ltr, i could get dimensions and some photos for you if your interested,
  15. I think in one post the phrase, i am not a cowboy was mentioned ?? I might go splitting logs tomorrow with the carving knife, just to see how it goes ๐Ÿ˜‚
  16. Yep 2p more than a Marrs bar in the spar,,,,
  17. I would put a fair amount of money on that being nothing to do with the tree,,, the tree looks to be 15,16,17,18 ft at least from the brick work, as others have said have a look at where your top water goes, then think what weather we have had of late,? , this should give you your answer, it looks pretty straight forward to me ,,,
  18. If they have gone for the price above i think someone has got a bargain some where i think Dempsey was a bit nearer the mark with his 15 k ??
  19. Thats my thoughts as well regarding keeping it local, last few saws i have bought have all come from my local stihl dealer and about ยฃ30-40 more than buying on line, but when i took a older saw in for repair it was ready by dinner time the day after, and i cant knock that at all,
  20. Today a good combination of saws would be a 261 and a 462 / 500i or the new 400 which seems like a decent saw to me, i used one a couple of wk ago for a day and was quite suprised with it ran a 20" bar and ringed a 30" sycamore with it, personally i would not entertain the 362 but thats my thoughts,
  21. Dont know weather your a Husky or stihl fan ? for me its Stihl and in my opinion you cant go wrong with a 261, there nice to use, plenty of power and seem to have the balls to sort bigger timber out as well, if this is the rout you go down look after it, keep the needle bearing greased and it will last you a long time, some one is going to post that the 261s are crap but they more than likely just bought one and used it with out doing any maintainance on it, and we all know that any machinery that does not get maitained from day one it will reflect later on in its working, and we have all heard the saying, prevention is better than cure, and them words are very true,
  22. I feel you have another hair brain idea brewing here to solve transport costs ??? i can sell you a boat as Halifax has the Calder & Hebble navigation canal ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
  23. There is a lot of people in this world who get paid a vast amount of money to do a job they cant do BUT they have the right piece of paper that says they can ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚
  24. Yes i have used them for about 4 year now but it depends what job i am doing, if its a Arb job at a domestic property its rotatec chains on as you can be sure there will be metal in the tree, its the same when i go felling trees at farms where there clearing the site to make way for a new building going upas you can be 100% sure a tree on a hedge/fence line will be full of metal in the bottom 4-5 ft, the way i see this is if i hit metal and trash the chain its ยฃ12 and not ยฃ30 for a Stihl chain, but when we are back in the woods thinning or on a clear fell its either Stihl or Oregon chains then,
  25. that thing called a Telephone wernt a bad idea and its progressed over the years, then theres another called a mobile phone which i think is brilliant, the internal combustion engine was nit a bad idea but i think thats had its day now as the best years for reliability and durabilaty have now passed, The best thing invented many years ago and they still make it today but dont seem to make enough of it and thats TIME,,,, 45 years ago a week seemed like a lifetime but today it,s a where did that week go and seems to be just getting faster as life goes on, when i was 15 i was working part time in a saw mill cutting 6x3 larch posts and rails for the fencing on what was then the brand new M55 time then seemed to drag but today it just goes so fast,,๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™‚
