  1. Not being picky.......but if its 3 phase why is there a 13 amp plug in the photo????????????
  2. Lots of small holes........could be sawflies Urocerus gigas?
  3. Must ancient woodland in England had a bank and ditch to stop deer I thought woodbanks were dividing lines, Parish boundaries, compartment markers etc. They would have to be a fair size and maintained to stop deer. Can you expand?
  4. No I was referring to the branch bark ridges. Cheers to all. But still dont know why I havent noticed any before. Not all trees exhibit these 'chinese moustaches' when cut, and what are the mechanics behind it?
  5. Reminded me more of Yosemite Sam (Bugs Bunny)
  6. Sorry bout the thread title, just couldnt resist, but what caused these marks on this sycamore. I have not come across them before. The tree is in a wood (c80 years old) and a fair few other sycamores exhibit similar marks. Can anyone help?
  7. Would imagine 'par-char' is part-charred or part-charcoal by the look of it. Anyway how many of you lot supply 'socially acceptable' wood and have cartoons drawn about how cool you are?....................................Exactly NONE It makes ALL the difference you know:lol::lol: Dont forget those 'demanding western users' either, when you get an order for a trailer load of (obviously dripping wet) logs from someone in Cumbria. Here in the North-East were not as fussy!!!!!
  8. Dont think you have cast your net very far, but wish (and hope) you catch your twiggy fishes
  9. At least they havent pixeled out the interesting bits.
  10. Wish he'd do it in a way us idiots can understand:rolleyes:
  11. Although there are lots of useful chaps (and probably chapesses) on the Arbtalk forum you have to realise that we are still talking 'cottage industry' scale in a lot of things. North East Norfolk is NOT quite far from you. Price excepted, nowadays that is a local supply. (Yes I know its not how it should be, but are we not working toward this??????????) Sadly, sadly, sadly woods that are worked on local and small scale sustainable management regime are few and far between. Be realistic in the modern'marketplace'...... unacceptable as it may be. Get yr binders from where you can and MAKE A DIFFERENCE Well done....have fun:thumbup: The author of this post hereby removes himself from any flak or flaming due to the effects of a 2008 bottle of Corona Rioja. Dont have a go at me its the Spanniards fault:beerchug:
  12. PIX PIX PIX please
  13. Some of our ahem how shall I say, older farming gentlemen in this area look older than 121! But it wasnt them I was speaking of. Perchance the people who mentioned it to me had read it somewhere? (Actually on thinking back I'm not sure if they were literate, so mebs you are correct:blushing:)
  14. Peckerwoo, you seem meterologically competent so any comment on this. 2 or 3 people have mentioned to me that our recent weather has been very similar to 1895 weather. Any truth?
  15. Hamadryad replied... I wasnt remotely bothered by the tone! maybe then he means the lamas growth of late summer? He was actually posing a question to generate discussion, regarding our assumption that pollards are cut at the height they are because of livestock.
  16. If he read the thread he might just be on the phone to you. If his wife read it he defo would be:biggrin:
  17. Havent been gripped with a thread like this for ages. Have just got back in from delivering crates to some friends who are going to fill them with apples for me to press. Should be fun! Was going straight to bed when I remembered this thread. Well done for dealing with it the way you did. It was your problem last night but sounds very much like its his problem tonight. A cheerfull symmetry me thinks
  18. Top answer so far:thumbup:
  19. Or you could go back, collect all but a few logs, give him his money back. That would let him know just what he's missing.......
  20. I'll second that
  21. This is where its a shame you cant post the Eastenders drums on this forum..... Will he ? wont he ? (Personally when the customer rang to complain I would have offered a refund and got my logs back)
  22. Have just got some Airstreams. Yes they are very comfy, but order a size up. I have 2 pairs of Meindl in size 45 but had to swap Airstreams for a 46.
  23. I have a 130 Td5 crew cab with 170000 miles on it. Engine is quiet, starts instantly (even @ -14 c) but (as I understand) lacks torque like all Td5's. (I wanted a 300 like my 110 hi-cap but couldnt find one:crying:) My mechanic says the engine is fine (so does his laptop!). As its a W reg it cant be re-programmed so any ideas for an aftermarket chip/ecu that will make it a bit more torquey? Ta
  24. Good point. BUT its not a level playing field, firewood isnt a manufactured product (merely processed, all of which CAN be done by hand, but i'm not suggesting that!!!)that grows in everyones 'back-yard'. I bet if you got £400k given, your cost per unit would go down!
  25. Mail comes from everywhere to everywhere. Very different. You do have a point after that but those things work because oil is too cheap If you are right that a one man band who works the local woods for example, near me, N Yorks, and sells me firewood, cant compete with a company in Herefordshire palletising deliveries of the same product, then SOMETHING is very very wrong.
