  1. But don't you loose power to the hydraulic system, therefore the machine cuts slower than the HB20 with the same size engine? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk mobile app.
  2. I'm inclined to agree with this, especially in the warm south east. Although, I'm acutely aware that I could be wrong but I have not seen any evidence around here of the Chalara.
  3. Solent Body Builders did mine. Their service is perfect and they can collect and deliver your vehicle.
  4. You you considered getting your trailer licence so that you can buy and tow a decent size trailer?
  5. I use a Tripod Ladder with 3 adjustable feet and it's brilliant. However, before using the ladder I use an Easy Lift Harness because it represents the ultimate in energy saving and productivity. Even more brilliant! I heard of a gardener chap hedge trimming from a platform. The platform and and the gardener ended up in the clients swimming pool! Wouldn't happen with an ELH.
  6. Thanks. So 22mm polypropylene has a MBS of 46kn which is apparently 4.69 tons. With a 5ton Tirfor I'd say that's fine.
  7. Im sure you mean Ex-groundie.
  8. What he said.
  9. One word for you Carlos. Hitch Hiker! Solid steel. No moving parts. Mid-line attachable> Put a pulley under and it's like a HC on DdRT> Change your TIP and climb SRT. Best of all worlds.
  10. I was thinking of this but can't find any info on how strong it is. Any ideas anyone? Thanks.
  11. You're quite right Pete and I'm so dumb for not using my Portacrap as the tie on point:blushing:. Yesterdays rope snapped at the knot, unsurprisingly:thumb down:.
  12. Thanks Essex but I need a long rope to go on the end of my existing steel cable.
  13. I just wondered what rope people use with a Tirfor winch? Just for simple tasks like pulling trees over. Mine snapped today. Thanks.
  14. That can't possibly be true. What kind of relatively sane person would 'attempt' to replicate a death!
  15. I didn't say the LJ won't engage. Quite the opposite in fact where the LJ takes your weight without the RW doing it's thing. The idea of the RW is that it takes half your weight so that your hitch doesn't bind up. This doesn't happen with the LJ therefore the LJ takes most of your weight and it isn't designed to do that without your rope attached to the shackle on top of it.
  16. Great idea but I would rather roll naked on broken glass than feed that chipper! Of course, I am only 6'1" in my boots.
  17. Because the LJ is designed specifically for DdRT climbing. With a RW above it, when you sit in the harness the LJ grabs the rope and takes all your weight before the RW has become engaged. This twists the LJ and it is therefore cross loaded. I've tried it and it really doesn't work. If you want a device that can be used for SRT and DdRT, your best option is the Hitch Hiker. You can switch from SRT-DdRT-SRT without making any alterations to there Hitch Hiker. You just change your Tie In Point.
  18. This is what I was planning on doing and pulling the chipper on with a winch on the front of the trailer. However, I've just realised that my A540di is 39cm too long for one of these trailers! Curses!
  19. Neither device is designed to be used on a single line and I would strongly advise not attempting to use the LJ in SRT. For doubled rope climbing, both are excellent so it's a personal choice thing.
  20. No. Horley in Surrey. near Gatwick
  21. Have a look at this thread for info and ideas. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/climbers-talk/56209-big-shot-set-up.html
  22. Damn it! I can see more money spent and another piece of gear relegated to the back of the shed!
  23. Yes! That's the one that I copied. It's not necessary to be able to pull loads of power for our small English trees but the trigger release helps immeasurably with accuracy.
  24. Used Gomtaro for years and tried the others. Tsurugi is the best IMO.
  25. What would be good is a video of the Smart Winch being used. The only vids I've seen are up in the tree so they're no use at all to a prospective purchaser. A video showing one groundie operations the device for lifting and lowering would be good. One could even say it would be Smart!
