  1. Ok, thanks. A Haglof and a tape is one item too many for me. I'll need to find a gadget that will do what the 200l will do but costing a good deal less. Anyone have any tips on which to choose? Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  2. Sounds like good advice but with the Haglof you a tape measure and I can't be arsed with extra things. Unless I'm mistaken. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. Coolio. Thanks. Hope the migraine is better soon. I have a friend who suffers with them regularly and has two solutions. 1. He finds most success with getting really drunk as soon as he feels the onset. 10-15 bottles of Becks as fast as he can drink them does the job, then a few more over the following couple of hours. 2. Really hot chilli peppers also work if drinking isn't an option. Considerations to make are that my friend is Indian with a reasonable drink problem. However his tactics do work. Good luck. 4. Thanks Arborist Can you measure branch length/crown spread with it? I'm sure I read a post by you on another thread stating that it's possible but I can't remember which device you were referring to. Thanks Al. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  5. No. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  6. Yes it is a working system if you have to get out the tree in a hurry. That's the whole point of it. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  7. I'll chime in here even though I haven't used the Akimbo. When I got my BDB, descending was jerky as hell on Cougar Blue. After a few climbs it was still horrid so I did a few long fast descents and suddenly the BDB and rope were in perfect harmony. It does appear that mechanical devices and the rope need to bed into each other. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. Use Stumpbusters or similar contractor (add a commission) so that they do your stumps whilst you're out doing your other work. Of course that may make it too expensive for client so you're then better off buying a Predator 460 to do it yourself. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. Arbrep services. 01420 544006 Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  10. Disgusting isn't it. Makes my blood boil. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  11. I saw a Fiat pickup last week. Looked just like a Mitsubishi L200 though. [emoji23] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  12. Did you buy the chipper from Arbrep Services? (My last chipper?) If so, call Charles and he'll talk you through it. Takes about 90seconds. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  13. As well as my previous post I'd agree with Billy. As an operator I'd want the. Invest most powerful chipper available. As an owner I'd be considering overheads versus productivity. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  14. Which model did you get? The 200 L or B or X? Can you measure crown spread / branch lengths with it? Thanks Al.
  15. From experience, a bigger engine will ensures the maximum diameter stuff is processed a fast as possible but most of the time it's not dealing with max diameter stuff is it. Therefore the smaller engine keeps weight and fuel bills down a bit. I'm on my 2nd Jensen A540 and can't fault it. Yes, I have used all the other brands so I can compare however, be sure to choose a brand that has a service centre close to you that you trust. Arbrep services is not the closest chipper dealer to me but they have always provided superb service.
  16. I've looked through the earlier threads on the clinometer subject and the more research I do, the more confused I become. It appears that the D510 will of course measure the height but can also be used to measure branch length (goodness knows how). So my question is: Is the D510 the best gadget for tree measuring or is there a cheaper model? Equally, is it better to carry on with the outstretched thumb, pacing and guessing?
  17. Good for you. But any tips you have could benefit the less fortunate. [emoji1360] Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  18. Value for money in terms of durability and comfort I rate these above all others. However, I never consider the cost when I'm choosing boots. I only think of the hours I spend in them and choose the pair I feel comfiest in.
  19. I've got Arbpro Clip n Step. Excellent climbing boot. Can't comment on durability as I don't care. I got them because they're comfy and cooler in hot weather.
  20. They are supposed to be guards for a stump grinder, they'll melt if you use them as a fire guard!
  21. Actually makes no difference at all. I spent yesterday on spikes and found the Andrew to be better than Airstream because they are stiffer. Of course the drawback is that when not on spike, they are stiffer. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  22. That's a heavy thing to tow behind a poxy Transit! I know because I have two poxy Transits! Lol! Looks great though. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  24. Where do you get that line from? I can only find it in America. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  25. Damn it, I got the wrong info last time I felled a bunch of Oak and Ash then. I had to give it away but by your reckoning I could have sold it for £1.7 billion! Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
