  1. I think I remember that deal, some bucks wrote the first one off in a few hours/days/weeks/months even, and blythly stated "I"ll have a red one this time, just for a change". Kinda guessing if they wrote the 2nd one off, the deal was off as well.
  2. Au contaire, over here we drink what passes for Sunshine!
  3. I Which one, having found their site but being unable to identify a roof/membrane repair tape.
  4. Yesterday evening I temporarily inserted 12" wide DPM up under the lead and down over the damaged butyl, which successfully turned the heavy rain last night. I was considering simply gluing the DPM down to the(well cleaned and washed) Butyl, with Stixall, then bedding strong stiff mortar on top, to reach up to the lead, to protect the DPM/butyl from furthur rat-attack. Worth a try I imagine. Btw, the hole issue is resolved, and there never was a pipe! Regards, Marcus
  5. Bloody 'ell, build a better mouse trap someone once said! I never knew these A24 auto resetting traps existed Thanks Ratty.
  6. Our power tripped out this morning, after prolonged rain. Found the offending circuit, in the utility, directly under the flat roof. I went up and saw the fornicating rats(well they do, dont they?) had ruthlessly shredded the butyl along below the lead flashing at the wall of the main body of the house. I had last year found where they were getting into the cavity, through the self same butyl due to a builder error, and had plugged the gap in the blockwork with mortar, and then patched in the butyl. Bastards rats soon got their revenge though! Suggestions welcome as to how to deter or prevent a re-occurance. Marcus EDIT I imagine the 303 trigger would be too heavy for tripwire activation by rats, and being bolt action, no auto-reset either, though one would tend to be aware of the triggering, so I suppose that would not really be an issue. P.S. I am bloody bored!
  7. Being a tight, nay perhaps merely careful Co. Antrim bloke, bred off well hungry Co. Cavan farming stock crossed with the ever thrifty Ulster Scots. At 90p a pop, I am not for blattering off ammo pointlessly. Cheers Marcus
  8. Took the 303 to the range this morning; Still "dead on" after 100 odd years. first group was 3.75", prone unsupported, at 100m 2nd group kinda supported over an ammo tin, was 3" dead, both near enough "dead on" in respect of my aiming point. And in so far as my decrepit eyesight was capable of aiming over open sights, with a MURDER-HEAVY military trigger forby. Edit; Just to say the Lee Enfield rifle is a lovely subjectively light naturally pointing thing, compared to me hazy memories of the SLR, which SLR I still loved mind you. I need to do a whole lot of dry firing to get used to the heavy trigger though. And start re-loading.
  9. HGM I truely admire and indeed aspire towards your positive attitude. Best regards, Marcus
  10. I would attatch more credance to Dr. Newnham's assertions than most other such stuff, especially if as he claims, there is clear corrolation between water/soil boron levels and the incidence of arthrits in the local communities. BUT! (i)Why has "big pharma" not been all over this and exploited the shite out of it? (ii)And why does Senior Management be crippled with arthrits and I am entirely unaffected, after 40 years living beside other and sharing the same diet? cheers mth
  11. Aye, them dammned foringers wont be as good at killing and disabeling babies as our wonderful NHS trusts have proved to be. Just saying like.
  12. Harsh as it sounds, but we are ALL going to die, some sooner than others due to continued poor decisions, and indeed some more horribly. BUT attempting to prevent these deaths is probably not economically viable, and indeed as is currently being proven. Then even more "innocents" will get to needlessly die due to the many side effects of the economic disruption and ensuing poverty, which is already happening(multiple massive job losses) and can only clearly get worse. I mean Mark, you, with you clearly demonstrated political stance MUST realize how big a killer poverty is. Never mind the mental health issues of staring at the same bleak 4 walls for days on end. So, which is is going to be Mark, a pure binary choice, go ahead and pick your pill. Regards, Marcus
  13. Well, it only took 9 months(and I suppose the best thinks in life do . . .) for my variation to be approved for the 303, paperwork is supposed to be printed/posted on Monday, should I be collecting it next week sometime. P.S. Younz living on the Mull o Kintyre better keep yer heids doon! Cheers marcus
  14. I really enjoyed that, but was unaware they build vessels out of green Oak, as the film would have led one to believe, following the freshly felled tree to the sawmill and then the shipyard!
  15. Ah were actually finking that if the current fad for infilling cracked, waney edged and rotten timber with resin goes much furthur, they might needa just run the timber through a chipper first, then mix it with the resin. But somebody done that years ago and called it chipboard. P.S. Though some of the finished works are indeed beauitful, at least on Youtube, how the resin fares and looks in the real world with scratches etc would concern me.
  16. I prefer automatics, because for towing work, there is no clutch to abuse, clutch abuse by others that is. But also even for someone as adept with a clutch as myself, a proper TQ Automatic is simply SO much better than a manual/clutch. And it should be entirely possible to build an unburstable/unbrakeable TQ automatic, with suitable periodic filter/fluid changes every 50 thou miles or so. I.e. stuff the "sealed for life" shite.
  17. It seems "they" are looking at a soon to be redundant MB factory in France, adjacent or near to the Saarland, I cannot but wonder that if they perhaps switched to buying MB engines/transmissions, that MB might adjust the selling price accordingly. We could end up with another other "G" Wagen clone begod! see linky; Jim Ratcliffe's Ineos mulls making Land Rover rival in France UK.FINANCE.YAHOO.COM Sir Jim Ratcliffe could ditch plans to build a new off-road vehicle in the UK after beginning talks over a factory in France. His company, Ineos Automotive, is in discussions with...
  18. I attempted to book a car, that I bought in England and drove back late last year, in for MOT here in NI. Bollocks to that, per the NI website, you get an automatic years free MOT, but NO written notification. Except I am reasonable sure, from past experience, that because this car is still on English plates(though taxed here in NI on my return) that my car will not be known to the NI MOT system. So I wont be getting the automatic 12 month extension. And the ph number provided on their Covid update page rings and rings and rings and rings, and rings unanswered. Not that it bothers me, but still.
  19. Practise obviously helps perfect execution. Impressive work that is.
  20. I, at 60+ have ruefully learned to digest the proclamations of "professionals" with a very large pinch of salt. Especially if they are driven by publicity and glory. My intuitive take on it back about Christmas time was that the first action should have been to suspend international air travel and all large venue public events. First. Then shut down other non essential gatherings like pubs and hair salons. And "social distancing" in other respects. And get on with life. Btw, our daughter working in a hospital with Covid paitents, including 12 hr shifts in IC, has recently tested clear.
  21. Fyuck! Wish I could have attended. Sigh.
  22. Is Ikea going to be selling them . . .
  23. Ah found out, a bit late in the day mind, that wor pubs was open today. Sigh.
  24. We got a lift in a rather nice MB Vario based people carrier. The driver was driving well sharpish. I asked him about the lower van speed limit. He said the cameras only triggered at car limit speeds. Ergo he was all right. But a driver in work got done in a van, by a camera van
  25. I could be offended on their behalf if you like Gary, such irrational behavouir being all the rage at the mo.
