  1. Hard to explain, but as much physically constrained by topography and boundaries and lack of "waste" ground, suitable for such temporary use, such as to make it pointless to ask. I would also anticipate some antagonism at the removal of "mature woodland" despite it being purely planted commercial conifer, nevermind my 25 year of nuturing of the volunteer hardwoods. And we wont mention the "free" money aspect of forestry sales! I have spoken to a respected local diggerman and arranged a site visit to discuss my options. Perhaps I should consider selling a couple of sites sprung off the newly paved access, to really give the neighbours cause to hate me, in particular the twisted gate, since the proposed sites would lie-in bounding his idillic rural garden . . .
  2. No point, one neighbour is "a twisted gate/git", tother is trying to sell his place this 2 years past.
  3. Simply no. not a runner. at all.
  4. I was approached by SWL, since the mills over here are mad keen for timber, and yes IF I had sold them 12 month ago, before that ferocoiusly dry March through to May in the spring of this year, I ud ha bin laughing all the way to the bank. Though I could cross my finger and stall until mid Feb, hoping for the usual? bitterly cold/dry spell we get when things are driest. I am actually concerned about the damage likely to be caused to the many volunteer Oak, and moreso to the precious few volunteer Beech, which I have been nuturing this past 25 years, and which I suspect would likely be tramped undertrack, despite the glib assurances proffered. But the 40 year old Sitka has already started to blowdown . . . mth
  5. Well floating the trees out upright does sound like quite the plan . . .
  6. Stere, I Just started to scan through that att. report, it is looking like a very pragmaticlly written document so far. Thank you. mth tsk tsk, first typo „fine fibrous peat‟ and „course fibrous peat‟ (Radforth, 1969) this should be coarse, of course.
  7. Apologies Eddie, by "the hard" I meant the County road, and where the peat Rodden meets the County road is a hard tight "T" bounded on both sided by other landowners.
  8. I always intended to secure a cutting of 7 ply to the top of my LP chopping blocks, with Tech7/Stixall type construction adhesive. But, sigh, I never quite get around to it.
  9. As above, I only need about 150m in off the hard, but where the truck will sit to self-load, is alongside a deep sheaugh, and the only practical arrangement is to stockpile on the far side of the sheaugh. It is all rank moss, albeit with an undisturbed scraw of 25 year old grass and weeds. Since I will be on the hook for these costs, any wrong decision will eat into my returns, and disproportinately so, with the limited area to be harvested. Thinking of about 500mm deep of crushed stone over Terram and possibly incorprating the plastic weldmesh type stuff where the truck will be loading. The key will be paving it well enough to prevent irreversible damage occuring, without overdoing it and burying any useful profit in the ground. Thoughts please, Marcus
  10. That derogation pisses me off, if it OK for "alternatively fuelled" vehicles to run at 4.25t it is simply safe to run at 4.25 tonne regardless of the fuel type.
  11. Since our bedroom looks East, I have the pleasure of waking up to the Sun streaming in when the clouds allow. This allows me to truely marvel at the massive quantity of airborne dust we are breathing each and every second of our lives. The fluff bunnies that accumulate almost overnight are also a perplexing wonder. Forby that observe the effects of wind along Portstewart Strand, carrying massive quantities of sand/silica dust. In short the human animal has evolved to survive in less than pristine air. Btw most polished horizontal surfaces quickly accumulate a layer of probably mostly wood ash dust from the stoves. But unless we are going to stop sleeping in beds, all is lost. Btw, the vast quantities of Talcum powder some females dust about their lady bits/babies bits may need properly investigating! Better to campaign to stop smoking and vaping for sure, if air quality is the issue.
  12. Ah hear Stella has agreed a multi million $ deal for Jonny Depp to advertise their larger . . .
  13. Sorry, but my lazy creaky back always tells me to reach for the lightest possible saw, well actually my only saw, and I picked it because it was the lightest with the best power to weight ratio. I have never had cause to regret my decision either. Only cutting conifers mind you. mth
  14. Harsh as it may be, but times I listen and I dont care, nay I may even think to myself "well, what the fcuk did you expect to happen, so suck it up!" MarkJ will attest to this facet of my character. mth
  15. Mark, I too finally figured out and accepted that simply by starting to mindlessly tidy up, or sort buckets of (swept up from the floor at work ) nuts, bolts, screws and nails was indeed its own therapy. And yes, there will be a day ahead when things look so much brighter. regards, mth
  16. Indeed, and shamefully I cannot remember the name of the bloke who was thrown out of his so recently deceased partners home.
  17. I bought 2No. £40.00 rechargable Petzyls for SM and myself, SM sits for at least 8 hrs doing needlepoint any day, and the battery lasted and lasted all day every day, recharged overnight. I only use mine rarely and picked it up yesterday after lying for months, and the battery still was good for quite a few hours. The daughter also borrowed Mums and commented on how good it was for walking on rough paths in darkness, and Lydia has had plenty of other headtorches. My only quibble is having to open the cover to plug in to recharge, but I suppose if you want water resistence this is the best option.
  18. Actually I agree, feed them, but do NOT give their "parents" even more money to piss up again a wall. Feed them at school, that way they will actually get fed.
  19. Funny enough I thought it was the IPhone waving ciggarette smoking vodka drinking cocaine addled online gambling "parents" who starved their children to feed their various addictions. P.S. Our son worked in a Belfast PO and knows the shocking amounts of cash paid out to indivdual claimants in benefits each week.
  20. My rainfall fed pond is an absolute blessing in respect of putting a positive spin on our somewhat variable weather. When it is fine I can enjoy the view, and when it is pissing down, I enjoy knowing that my water and oxygen levels will be rising. I explained this to a local stock farmer who was moaning about the weather, strangely enough he was NOT impressed with my impeccable logic. Marcus
  21. Never mind that a lot of the munitions probably never made it the length of the Beufort Dyke, being dumped over the side early, so as to skeddaddle back to port for another high paying load!
  22. Love the older Fendt there Woody, proper jealous I am!
  23. Jesus will be jealous of your "walk on water abilities" there Mike!
  24. Well its like announcing a free bar, with a loud hailer, in a busy street, the opportunists will come flocking, no different in the current rather mishandled situation, where Government money was being shovelled out with zero scruitiny, like our RHI et al. Btw. most of the businesses that avail of the current largesse, with whatever degree of honesty, can probably be labelled "Tory", cos you know, anyone running a business can be painted as a Tory..
