  1. Ha ha don't they just drive you mad!! I thought that would work too ........until I watched a documentry on them. I cant remember what it was called......but basically they were doing the same as you in the pic. They some how filmed the mole in the hole...all he did was dig himself a little hole and put his head into until it was safe. I used to catch them like you but went underneath them with a spade. some died but I let the live ones go in a wood across the river from us. I thought they wouldn't come back but the little sods can swim as well. They aint half cute though, and the power in those front paddle/claw ry things is awesome.
  2. Many thanks.. I wasn't really sure where to put them for you fungi guys to have a look. Here's the pics they're not great as my phone is a bit naff. I hope you payed a visit to * Giant Toadstools to ID the giant fungi there:biggrin: Cheers steve
  3. I judge the wood I burn, on how big the crack gets ontop of my stove(caused from not putting it through enough heat cycles when I bought it) Hardwoods open it a bit....but soft woods especially larch causes the crack to open nearly enough for the flames to come out of it. Bring on the soft wood reveloution. Actually don't because my customers will wan't to keep it and I won't have any to burn for free. So SHHHHH Soft wood is rubbish ok.
  4. I forgot to say we don't butcher trees either... I'd rather walk away than look back at something that looks crap. That's call good business to me.
  5. whats the point in spending time. Explaining to the customer the right way?....... and then saying ok you don't want that so i'll do it the wrong way instead:confused1: you'd just as well not bother and do it their way in the first place IMO:001_smile:
  6. Hey Hama can you I'd some fungi for me please?.......I'm just getting the fungi bug and thought I would remember the names(some of which I can hardly pronounce)if I learn't them as I found them. Cheers Steve

  15. I could do with a ****ing sky hook in this tree!!...Pass me up a red bull mate!! I need some wings.
  16. I'd say what I tell customers, when they phone me up and ask how much would I charge to taking a tree down over the phone. And that's "with out looking at it, I would just be plucking figure's out the air, because there are too many variable to take into consideration." just ask your self How much you want for 1 tree and x it by 30 or how many trees you can do in a day x day rate x number of days And that's your price!.....if you don't get it, you know you were too expensive and move on.

  21. come on then the suspence is killing mee!! I need to know how much, so I can work out what all the shite in my yard is worth.......... sorry I meant to say bespoke... one off.... garden features are worth!!
  22. I was cutting a conifer hedge by 2 hives a couple of weeks ago..........It was a nice hot day and the bees were very active. I thought the noise/vibration/smell of 2 stroke would piss them off,but they just went about their buisness. I was quite surprised!! It was nice watching them coming back and forwards laiden with the pollen.I had thoughts of freshly toasted bread, butter and a nice dollop of honey.mmm I've been attacked by wasps... in fairness though I had just hit their house with a hedge trimmer,so don't really blame them, as I would of done the same. Those African x south american bees(or something like that) are ment to be nasty buggers though!!and attack for fun.
