  1. Have you tried putting it on the saw:questionmark:
  2. "My hands are rough as a badgers arse." not that I've ever touched one.
  3. No I'm not, I've only been on arb talk. I'll have a look though... thanks for that.
  4. Cheer for that, it's amazing when you start thinking about it..... 8......100 years.
  5. nice pics This is a great old tree we came across one day. It's a big old oak situated in an apple orchard. Its an amazing place to go when the orchards out in flower on a sunny day, birds singing bee's buzzing. there's a lovely place that you can just nessle into at the butress of the tree, it fits you body perfectly. It's amazing to think what the tree has seen in it's time and the people who have sat underneath it.It's still alive but has been declining over the last 10 yrs I'm not sure how you can tell how old it is but if any one has got an idea I would love to know...... It's 36 ft around.... I think... I'll have to get the tape out again.
  6. "it's a Slay and spray" = trees coming down and chip to stay on site

"don't cut any more off! anymore and it will look abit wayne'd= border line pruning. or are we just mad?......probably
  12. As some of the guys say fs 400 with a 3 pronged blade will sort them out. I've given mine a thrashing for the last 8/9 years, with no problems apart from the odd throttle cable and a decoke now and again, its also got better anti vib than the Kawaski KBH43. or what we've done before now is track over them with a digger, if over head height and then munch them with an orchard clearer/compact tractor and spray them after the blue bell etc have finished flowering. hope that helps steve
  13. The guy who told me is in some sh** then.I won't name him though I could bribe him:001_smile: I just went Vat registered it was easier at the time and it was nice claiming 3 years Vat back on Van, chipper, kit = £££££'s. I'm de registered now though after the last 3 years wern't the best and all my work is for domestic customers now any way. Now turnover is getting back up to the limit again I'd go for the Ltd company and sole trader option but you can't have 2 companies 1 Vat reg and the other 1 not if they are both doing the same work activities. Its always best to get a good accountant, they save you alot more than they cost you!!!! O and as Mark Bolam said "Word of caution though. Never, ever mess around with the VAT man. He will shaft you very hard with no foreplay or lubrication whatsoever!" and he wont stop for a fag break either!!!
  14. go into partner ship with your wife. I'm not 100% sure but the guy who told me said the limit is doubled. If its wrong he's in some serious shhhhh
  15. Data tag it. and get it as dirty as possible!!! The travelling community only like nice shinny things. oh and maybe something along the lines of Photo electric beam sensors & alarms FT25B, it'll give you time to load the shot gun! if not start a new dogs home for rescued rottweilers only.
  16. The trouble is I've never seen any plug sockets in the woods:001_smile: Also you can't beat the sound of a saw running flat out. petrol it is for me.
  17. can you lock it to the back of your truck and back it up into the prefab? you'd av to get up an hour earlier to unlock it all, with all of the above.
  18. It's been pretty good here, we were scratching about before christmas. since the new year it's been the busiest we've been for 2years at this time of year. I think its because every one thinks its spring, after all the cold weather we had before christmas.
  19. when you start thinking.......:hmmmm:mmmmmmI wonder if I can fell it:questionmark:I cant be assed climbing it.
  20. nice job, she looked a big old girl in a tricky spot.
  21. I go on the basis of "What's mine is mine and what's your is yours." If someone wants to take something, that doesn't belong to them, then they should be prepared to suffer the consequences..... legal or not.
  22. one word......wow!!! oh and another few....big balls....very big balls!! notice how they are so content and happy, I'm off to see if they want a lodger. I don't know what use i would be to them though.
  23. Hey woody, just renewed my insurance, I was with the NFU for years and never had a problem until now. They sent me through the certificate of insurance which said insured for tree surgey and landscape gardening. I dont normally read the small print as i just presume its the same every year. I was doing a quote for a larger company, and i thought i better check the small print. I could'nt belive it said i was only covered up to 6 metre!! which is more shrub pruning and not tree surgey.(and i was paying full wack for it as well!!) I phoned them and after 2 weeks they sent me though a new policy which they said met my requirements, read the small print and it was the same as before. I lit the fire with NFU policy and phoned Trust......sorted!!!
  24. Good evening all, Just wondering if any one could give me a bit of help please! I've been invited to tender for work with the forestry commission cutting back footpaths and general chainsaw work, but not major felling work. After doing a lot of hoop jumping in the PQQ to get the Invitation to tender stage(ITT) I was just wondering if any one would be so kind as to let me know what the going rates are for 2 men and a chipper, for the day, for this sort of work. I've been working in the private domestic sector for 11 years and know the prices I can charge. When it comes to forestry commission work I have'nt got a clue! in theory it should be more because of all the extra paper work and H&S you have to do. But a few people I have spoken to have said there is less money in forestry work. I've done all the workings out for my costs van, chipper, men, fuel, insurance and the list just goes on and on.(it comes to stupid amounts!!) Any help/advice would be much appreciated!! Many thanks Steve.
