  1. such a tidy shed Stephen, the trees wanted to jump in and join in the fun
  2. haha, liking that flame out the chimney 18 stoner
  3. mmm, just about to remortgage with Santander!! To be honest, I think all banks have their issues - just the luck of the draw if you get caught up in something or not. As for the person who made the comment earlier in this thread about the Spanish and financials not going together - thats just ingorance. With London being a major hub in the financial world and having been a significant player in the shenanegans a few years ago, not to mention Libor etc etc, this country can hardly claim to be a shining beacon of financial purity. People living in glass houses etc. Sorry about the derail, but people who make stupid, unneccesary comments, just irk me. Rant over!
  4. dont forget the camera for a few examples
  5. just so there is no confusion, I think Predator was referring to roofing felt which would be a waste of time as it wont cope with compound bends and will harden, crack and leak - needs to be the pond liner type stuff, usually EPDM or butyl. EPDM is also extensively used as single ply roofing membrane, but is an identical product to the EPDM pond liner, except that as a roofing product the manufacturers like to charge a significantly higher price than they can for pond liner
  6. probably just a writer who couldn't be bothered to fact check before publishing!
  7. meant to say - yea, the plastic will degrade whereas the pond liner will last a long time
  8. I tend to take smaller pieces off toward the edge which then split into two or three logs and work my way round the ring
  9. I have used some pond liner for this sort of situation. It stretches appreciably so made a hole in the middle well smaller than the stack and slipped it over and it makes a nice seal even without glue. The 'skirt' then drops down and can be glued or flashed to the roofing some how depending on how it is constructed. In your case you will have to wrap it round and as per above tie it with a bungy that together with the pond liner will move with the tree and expand over time. I guess you might need to undo it and tie it every few years to limit the effect on the tree as it grows. Hope that is clear enough
  10. what, a new product?? I know the fumes are better to breathe than regular mix, but this is maybe going a bit far  Other than that, keep up the good work Eddie
  11. A nice medium sized axe is all you need on a lot of stuff and it is easy to use one handed and as has been inferred makes things quicker and easier.
  12. hatchet for kindling, medium sized axe one handed for most rings and a large axe for the bigger lumps. Most wood splits relatively easily so does not need a maul. I find a close look at how the grain runs in the knotty bits will give a good idea of where best to hit it with the axe for a quick result. The handful that are just too lumpy go in the fire pit. Just to qualify - only splitting for own domestic use. Good exercise and as the saying goes - he who splits his wood is warmed twice, he who collects and splits his wood is warmed thrice PS it helps if you are ringing up your own wood to think about where you put the saw through to help with splitting up the more gnarley parts
  13. Hey eggs - going by the definition of a bribe copied below, rushing to finish by ten and perhaps cutting corners in doing so puts you into dodgy ground 3 What is a bribe? A bribe is a financial or other advantage offered or given: - to anyone to persuade them to or reward them for performing their duties improperly or; - to any public official with the intention of influencing the official in the performance of his duties.
  14. where does tea & biccies fall in all this??
  15. would have thought the price on that would need some serious justification from a felling perspective?
  16. bloody hell Andrew, never seen that before - very interesting
  17. and back to the OP - how did things go yesterday - any more wood gone?
  18. ditto on the apple
  19. classic at about 1:10
  20.
  21. you've clearly started her off in the right direction
  22. Sadly I suspect it will just be a slap on the wrist
  23. Thanks Alec. Sounds like a good staring point for our 076av.
  24. Alec, have you found any need to retune the older saws for Aspen?? edit - any other issues with changing over to Aspen
  25. sounds a bit like the BT man we had in a while back - had to phone 1 hr before arrival to request all smoking materials be extinguished and the house ventilated. Great idea for the non-smoker, but he was a twenty a day man himself Oh, and also he could not run the phone line along the eves over the flat roof extension cos he didnt have a flat roof ticket?? He was ticketed to climb up to 15m high ladders without a second person in attendance Its a funny old world
