  1. I hope humans will survive obviously We seem remarkably adept in colonising Today the earth tomorrow the stars
  2. I thought pre payment was the most expensive option AT least It used to be
  3. It's a no brainer really- if you intend to become a successful (getting bigger) business then eventually you will have to go VAT registered so staying under the limit becomes how shall we say--- an exercise in suggesting the customer pays cash. Not saying thats what you will end up doing but it's very probable. All very Greek methinks:001_smile:
  4. we've burnt about a quarter of what we did last year so this prob the same for all customers.
  5. Funny really but I feel sad for those great old trees Rape of the forests and all that- they knew no better though so the guys just getting on with life.
  6. Nice idea John Does this work on all jobs I mean there must be times when the customer has a go about patio damage from the tracks. Also - with three climbers all dropping at once and then clearing- surely it makes clearing a pain
  7. If he has a commercial contract then I believe you have to give him 6 months notice so best go down the route of a police prosecution to stop him trading. You may loose 6 months rent but problem solved I have to agree he's probably a scumbag but my kids tell me when they were younger and in a group they would wait outside offies and ask strangers to get them drinks- this is normal practice I understand. Eventually one will turn up and help them
  8. If the firm you use can choose when they do the work and is in control of the works then OK Check they have insurance for your own peace of mind. The issue is possibly with you on site. Does this constitute you controlling the works- personally I think it does unless the firm you use is paying you as a subbie. You are after all overseeing the job.
  9. If there was an electrictalk forum do you think they would really be any different from us in their business techniques Theres plenty on here who say charge what you can for tree works so thats the rate. Just doing the devils advocate thing here fellas- don't have a go but I'm sure you get my point.
  10. OK fellas I know this one If you have a streetworks ticket then You can stop traffic from both directions if necessary for a maximum of 2 minutes at a time But there is no limit on how many times you can do this although I personally would judge it according to the snarl up that may ensue. If the signs are manned then it is more likely they will be obeyed. We all k now how daft car drivers can be
  11. His son is an idiot Why couldn't he have just phoned you
  12. How much you going to charge and do you think he'll pay
  13. Blimey I'd never thought that could happen but I suppose it could I had a customer recently who phoned me back and said I had to charge another £300 for doing the work as he thought my quote was a bit low. This is the flip side
  14. Same here nfu just don't want to be involved in tree work hence the height restriction. Anyone with a £400 insurance from them is very likely winging it. Similar too I once subbed out on a large contract to my landlord and his partner for some groundworks only to find they had waded in and taken the main contract. You just can't trust in business Best thing was they had a real problem getting their money- HeHe:thumbup1:
  15. what a stupid design then stihl should change this Mind you- top marks to stihl for otherwise making a great saw What is the max bar size you guys using on this saw though praps thats not a good question as maybe larger bar would create more needle bearing problems
  16. It can be a lonely place be sure to keep in touch with friends/family as you progress They are your escape and grounding
  17. If you're at all tongue in cheek/wind up you can expect a lot of misunderstanding Takes a lot of sorting so sometimes it's easier to stay schtum
  18. 99% of the cuts I've seen have been using silkys I think small/light means you don't give the tool the respect it requires
  19. trouble is you've got different spheres here Theres tree officers who have to weave between current accepted practice and keeping joe public reasonably happy. You've got National Trust type places where visitors expect trees to look like trees. You've got consultants who try to put on a professional face but can be swayed to do what the developer wants. You've got trained tree surgeons who leave college expecting to be working at a top level and end up felling and topping as that is the only work available. Business owners who suggest the most expensive approach to a job often conversing with housing officers who haven't got a clue. Also business owners who suggest the cheapest option as they know in this way they will get the job. Hell- the list is endless- You've just got to weave your way and hope you don't get battered by life too hard
  20. in kent expect to pay £90 per day
