  1. Nice tractor saw horse Callum. I was thinking of a sawhorse that attatched in my bucket. But that beats it.
  2. If the relationship is definitely done for good. Start the ball rolling now. The younger the better from a working visa point of view for you and aim big now Oz or Nz. Then if it takes a while for you to get things sorted go to EU meantime. I only ever went Rome for medical treatment twice before going to NZ. Never been abroad before Been back 3 times since. Use the search box in the toolbar at the top of the forum. Lots of mileage on this subject. pm a couple who have done it, you can't beat being in the know. If you go don't forget to keep us posted on here.
  3. A bit of info off the top of my head so bear with me for accuracy. I have a 1967 John Deere diesel tractor. In the owners manual it recommends draining oil and refilling with diesel. Crank the engine over with the mechanical fuel shut off pulled out. Turn with starter motor but do not start engine. Drain. Fill with fresh oil and change filter. Bearing in mind that oil back then was much cruder technology and alot less additives were used. Also this same tractor had a fuel problem once and I bled it alot over successive attempts (I was young and full of optimism. Both have now diminished!) I knew that a "bit" of diesel had got passed pistons in to the sump. But I got the tractor going it revved high and would not shut off. It was burning the sump diesel. I did stop it by engaging gear and stalling it. How would you stop an automatic transmission or a chipper if this happened?? My other thought regarding engine flush products is A friend was a salesman for Forte and asked if I would be interested in engine flush? Why whats the benefits? Extends engine life etc But the vehicle will rot before Ive used half the engines mileage! However the importance of clear passage for oil and airflow is not to be ignored. I know of a komatsu bulldozer that seized on cylinder number 4 3 times on the trot with low hours. When the komatsu mechanic came out the 3rd time he had an apprentice with him, he found him a couple of parts to go off and clean. One of which was the crankcase breather which was thoroughly plugged and the cause of the engine failure each time!
  4. Welcome to the forum. I would suggest typing "sawhorse" in the search option which is in the toolbar at the top. You will get lots of opinions if you browse that lot. I only have a forestmaster ultimate sawhorse and am happy with it. Its a back saver for the size your asking abouts. Its alot cheaper now as well.
  5. Its probably worth it. It the long run the reputation will be stellar! (not stella)
  6. Move the horses I'd say. Often its only a whim keeping horses/ponies, until they get interested in boys. Trees are a longer effect in the environment. Sycamores are genuinely native to other countries where horses have existed for centuries. You wouldn't or shouldn't keep horses in a field that was often wet, it leads to lameness. Nor should you allow ragwort to grow in fields they are in. I see plenty of both. Because they keep horses, prop them up with supplements, tonics healthcare etc instead of managing the land to keep them in top condition. Working horses in the olden days would get farm crops to supplement their diet and entertain them. Horses get bored, chew trees, toxic treated fencing wood. If they were busy pulling implements most days they would get the stimuli a domestic horse requires. Bit like many dog/cat owners with their pets too pampered and precious, making them weaker. Sheep and other livestock are rapidly killed by rhododendron or bracken yet they graze areas that are rife in this vegetation fine, through adapted management. Let a new sheep loose on such a field. dead in a day. Doesn't answer your question maybe, but like lots of modern problems, I think thats were we are going wrong.
  7. I have a case 4230 1996 P reg (82hp)with 4wd braking system on the flatlands of east yorkshire. I use a single axle trailer that was original 6 ton but since uprated by triffett trailers its maker to a tandem axle, but in the 1980s they didnt bother to uprate the plate. 6ton is fine. But get 9 ton on the tractor loses speed on the small hills round here, down to 10-12 mph. Which is a bit embarrassing. Best to gaffer the load than stain it.
  8. And a seem to remember someone above in this thread, saying" Your groundy is a machine Hodge" Or words to that effect.
  9. Be a slim chance of getting one. I know its a big outlay. But look at it this way. If you get one by end of this week and use it just all one day a week every week. It will probably save you what it would cost for the extra labour you would need instead. Then next year its a profit maker. I don't have one yet. But from life experience, buy things that save you time and your body. They are worth it. Im only a small one man outfit and have spent thousands on one piece of kit for not a massive return as yet. And continue to invest in gear. But Im able to go to work the next day and not suffer lack of sleep, pain chiropractor visits etc.
  10. Also they had air compressors built in to them which was handy. Don't know which or if all models had this. Fuel consumption will not be an issue, old tractors had tiny tanks and lasted all day on them. Parts would be worth checking out prices and availability.
  11. I reckon they all have been replaced since this was originally posted:biggrin:
  12. It wasnt expensive to us as we paid for it with alot of amazon vouchers. Hope whoever may of bought it in good faith, perhaps is enjoying it. Glad I blanked the memory cards before we went. Never claimed on insurance as we never reported it to police. Didn't see the point as police there as badly behaved as everybody else in public.
  13. Some tractors do have economy pto that run at 750rpm. As covered really try it at 540rpm speed if you think more is available try the 1000rpm speed. The only time it may not be good is when you engage pto. Need to feather it in more at the higher speed, to not shock load transmission.

    Dyson repair...

My opinion is based on the upright early versions.
  15. Very nice taupotreeman. Good to see you are still enjoying your photography. Our camera we had when we saw you last year was nicked first day on holiday in Italy in September! Narked but could've been a lot worse. I will root out an nz sunset of mine from 2005 sometime. Remind me if I don't put it up by end if the year.

    Dyson repair...

Another good brand is sebo. My Dyson experience is they fall over and the brittle plastic shatters. I would replace rather than repair and personally not found Henry's that good on suction. Certainly won't give you a love bite, but it's Friday night and someone might prove otherwise!
  17. The professor dog featured in your avatar? Does he sit up to the table with a knife and fork. Napkin in his collar Looks a proper gentleman.
  18. It's a problem because you want both. The ideal none real world solution is a road train of trailer and a chipper behind van with tools safely locked away. If you got a high sided tipper people would see less. A under slung toolbox would only get your chainsaw in. A tool vault on the back needs a through the side access otherwise when you have finished chipping you have no access. As a one man chipper crew it should fall on the person your subbing to to cart chip away. Also have handy chip tips as much as possible. A 4wd is not going to get much use on a grasscutting round in summer, but will put overheads up.
  19. In the front of a sign written arb mobile surely that would be fraud?

Theme tune to play in the cab of that tranny from aspenarb. Oasis "You gotta roll with it"
  21. With you I imagine a big cartoon Guy with trees being tipped constantly and you and your toys churning out timber products at the other side. Good to see somebody making a go of using slow home grown timber in to higher value timber product. Much respect to you in this age of mdf swell board and manufactured trash for the masses. Slight derail but did you get the trailer from Germany. If so could you tell us on the thread.
  22. I imagine two pulleys, greasable shafts x2 2x bearings a rope . U bolts. Its a niche market gone are the days of the old bloke in the village enjoying fettling up a couple of pulley wheels for a tenner on his lathe. Sometimes I dig my heels in and DIY or source through the web others I just face the music and cough up.
  23. Seems a lot but you will recover it in lost time and smoother working. A new knocker would be thousands. You could sell gears maybe on ebay or in a tractor mag. Suprising who may want such. Thanks for sharing.
  24. Simonm was struggling to shift his stock nr Leeds somewhere recently.
  25. Never seen a "slammed" tranny before.
