  1. My name is Matt Hall and I'm 24. I'm currently studying an Arb degree at Moulton college and as my first year is about to come to a close I have decided I would like to stay in the Northampton area to work. I hold CS 30,31,38 and I'm booked onto the 39 which takes place soon. I have 3 years experience in all aspects of arboriculture including a year spent working in Australia. Currently I am helping to teach first year national diploma students to climb with one of my lecturers every Thursday at Stowe estate. I have my own PPE and climbing kit, excluding a top handled saw. I'm hard working and have a strong desire to learn new techniques and skills. Looking to work for a company that enjoys the industry and has a few laughs along the way. Cheers, Matt Hall. 07748644853
  2. OP 10mm, Michochan on 13mm XTC Fire.
  3. For one of my lectures we visited part of the Althorp estate in Northampton. As you can see by the pictures there was some beautiful standing deadwood (well, strangely there was some living limbs on it), and some beautiful specimens of Dryad Saddles. Straight away thought of you Hamadryad.
  4. Moulton College, Northampton do them all. Probably 40mins for you.
  5. I noticed that on one of the little games that the app has And I could use a field guide if I was actually identify a tree but I was just messing about to see if it worked. The field guide still holds a special place on my shelf, it's not obsolete yet.
  6. Same problem here! Spent 20mins trying to upload and it just popped up with a message saying 'unable to upload'. Hope it starts working soon so we can see the real potential and accuracy.
  7. Well looked smoother than mine Rupe. Watching JT would of been immense!!
  8. I was put in the seniors section but it was my first comp, not that it will make any difference as I did rubbish! It was a good weekend though!! Matthew Hall.
  9. 'I like big butts an I cannot lie, you other brothers can't deny, when a girl walks in with a itty bitty waist and a round thing in your face, you get sprung!' Something along those lines.
  10. The only thing I saw was a group of Welsh guys who perform demos for the crowd using the new 346xp (I think that's what it was). Can't really say much about it apart from that sorry, but it looked like it cut quite nice.

    Capel

Just a quick thanks to the guys at the Capel show. Managed to spend more than I should of but it was nice to have a chat and grab some shiny new kit. Hopefully see you guys at UK&I TCC. Cheers. Matt.
  12. I'll get mine in soon, just going to join the ISA first and then apply. Judge, a quick question. The majority of my gear is only just reached the 6 month mark and with being on the degree course at Moulton it hasn't seen much action. My question is: Do I still need a LOLER certificate or could I get away with the check on the day?
  13. I'm in the same boat but was talking to a lad called Owen last week who works closely with nod and treeworker, and he was saying it's a really chilled out atmosphere and everyone is really cool. I'm still nervous though as it's my first comp as well, just hope I'm not as bad as I think I am.
  14. I'll be there. I don't know anyone though as I just usually sit back and soak up the knowledge, but I am here everyday. So if anyone fancies a beer or 12 on Friday and Saturday night I'll be happy to step up. Matt.
  15. I'm at Moulton College in Northampton. It's a really nice location and the resources are great. There is also a a lot of money being pumped into some new building projects that will be completed by the end of the summer break. The work load is pretty steady and your pretty much in the centre of the country, so nice and close to arb shows, unique estates, arboretum's etc. Hope this helps. Matt.
  16. Koh Tao island off the east coast of Thailand.....Beautiful island!
  17. I visited the Greenmech factory a couple of months back with my arb degree course to have a tour round the place, really interesting actually. I remember seeing these guys floating round the factory floor. I have a new found respect for Greenmech and their machines....but i'm a little sceptical of the practical uses of a chipper/mower
  18. A new Lynx advert...... *Lynx.....it even makes complete strangers your personal wallet!*
  19. Worst film I have ever seen. I just sat there with a face of amazement that something so bad could actually be made! Acting.......terrible!
  20. Count me in! always wanted to go to kew and a tour would be a nice touch.
  21. This thread is so deep I can't see light! This thread has torn me apart. Looking at this thread from the background I have had and being from a younger generation I can see why people would be torn. When starting out as a young naive 17 yr old just wanting to climb and cut any woody perennial I could find I would have deffinately chosen the client, but now I have delved into looking at trees scientifically and seeing how diverse and complex they are I would (and did) choose the tree option. This said, I am a student and don't have to worry so much about my debts......yet! Whatever opinions are expressed it's not going to change the world of arboriculture (not yet anyway). Hama, I admire you in so many ways. Coming from the next generation of arborists I hope you can take some sort of pleassure away from knowing that your attitude can, and does, effect the way I (and no doubt others) feel and love the natural world. You're touching generations my friend!
  22. Started college doing a course in public services, wanting to eventually be a police officer. Part of the course was to do 2 weeks work experience so managed to get my dad (who at the time worked for Stoke-onTrent Council's tree gang) to get me work with grounds and maintenance. My dad then offered me the chance to work with the tree gang for a couple of days.....loved it! Left my college course and worked for a couple of companies as a groundy round the Stoke area. Fast forward to 2008 where I decided to go traveling. Spent 4 months in NZ skiing and then moved on to Australia. Worked for a company in a place called Coffs Harbour and then worked in Melbourne for 9 months for a couple of companies......Still loving it!!! 2010 - Returned from Australia and decided to enroll at Moulton College on a foundation degree in Arboriculture at the age of 24. Almost at the end of the first year and really enjoying learning about the details of the industry and the science behind it all. Can't wait to put all my skills and knowledge that I am learning at uni to good use when I get back to the real world of work! What the future holds.....who knows???
  23. Hey guys, I have an assignment on the internal structure of stems form: Herbacious Dicot (tomato) Primitive Plant (Fern) Gymnosperm (Juniper) Monocot (Grass) Woody Dicot (Birch) It is an expermental write up and I just need to find a diagram of each to show the internal structure. If anyone has any ideas of a website where I can find preferably a labeled diagram of each that would help me a lot. Cheers, Matt.
  24. Just started my course full time, 2 year foundation degree at Moulton College. The course is great, a lot of information to take in and getting used to referencing is a bit of a nightmare. So look at the harvard refrencing system, it will help. As for books I have just received my reading list and there is too many to name on here. Anything by Mattheck - Body language of Trees is a good book by him which you will need to read. Alex Shigo another author which is a big help. A lot of things about plant biology and tree ident you will need to know. Good luck.
