Probably a bit like with the cheap chainsaws you see that are 80cc and aimed at homeowners! The 6hp engine is plenty most of the time, but is a bit underpowered when cutting up to the limit of 300mm. I've never measured consumption, but it seems very frugal on fuel.

Not used but but have looked at Harnett before, it looks the same old chinese stuff, built to a price. They don't state a weight, but this one looks simillar and it is 140kg https://www.brmachines.com/products/700mm-petrol-log-saw-13hp-electric-start (the simillar balfor saw bench is about 200kg, so not much metal in the china ones) Why are you wanting to get rid of the tractor saw bench?

There's an old boy I know, really good on all machinery (both driving and fixing them), he always goes on about tracked excavators are built for digging holes, not for driving about, you'll wear out the drivetrain etc etc. He will load his digger onto the trailer to move it more than about 100yds! If you said to him you were going to tow a trailer I think he would have a heart attack He also has an SMC rubber duck, handy for running about on, hopeless off road. I don't know, it's above my paygrade, but I think open ground (grass) is lacking in the fungi that a woodland would have, so you add rotting wood and it finds it's way to the roots! From what I've seen, trees planted near existing trees do better than ones in an area of grass, and that's with keeping the weeds down. You can buy packets of mycorrhizal fungi, whether or not it's actually still live in there?!

If the ground doesn't have any trees on it already, then I think decomposed woodchip is better (when planting trees) as you're getting the mycorrhizal fungi from the rotting wood, which should help the new trees.

When you see something like that you always wonder what the story is, it's like someone has done half a job and deliberately left it awkward for next person. Unpaid bill? Bloke off facebook who "used to work for the forestry mate"? Farmers son from next door? Going by the size of the timber they must've used machinery to move it. Probably dragged the logs through the mud for good measure too If you were local I would do it no bother, but I'd need to know I was actually going to be paid Infact if you were round here you could have that on gumtree as 'firewood - buyer collects'!! -
Not really broken, but non working anyway! A friend's esab welding helmet with a flat battery. As is often the case, you need to take the thing to bits, and the battery is soldered on to the circuit board. They don't want you changing the battery! Previously I have soldered in new batteries, but on this one I got a cheap little external battery holder for a CR2032 cell, which is slightly smaller, soldered that to the circuit board, made a hole for the wires, and stuck the holder to the helmet.

Yeh can't get your hopes up about them surviving. Hence mainly willow so far. Got heaps of used tree tubes, don't know if that will protect them from the flail, or just bring unwanted attention!

From the HSE re "anti vibe" gloves: Gloves marketed as "anti-vibration", which aim to isolate the wearer's hands from the effects of vibration, are available commercially. There are several different types, but many are only suitable for certain tasks, they are not particularly effective at reducing the frequency-weighted vibration associated with risk of HAVS and they can increase the vibration at some frequencies. It is not usually possible to assess the vibration reduction provided in use by anti-vibration gloves, so you should not generally rely on them to provide protection from vibration. However, gloves and other warm clothing can be useful to protect vibration-exposed workers from cold, helping to maintain circulation. -
Aka guerrilla gardening Does anyone on here partake in such illegal activities? Going round planting trees in places you shouldn't. Wasteland, odd bits of no mans land, bits of verges etc It's manly been willow whips poked in the ground on moonlit nights. Atleast they're quick and easy, and hopefully compete with the undergrowth I did once have a mixed bag of self seeded saplings, don't know if many of them survived. Do you think using tree tubes would be a bit much I suppose you could also do it during the day and use a hi vis jacket as camouflage, official innit

I've seen some people put the cardboard packet from firelighters in the recycling. They've gone out and bought a product containing kerosene, resin binder, emulsifier etc, but they won't put the bit of paper in the fire, so they dutifully carry it out to the recycling

I know this is an old thread, but you must already be using tachos for towing the trailers about the country? You might just get 1.5t legally in the back of some of the front wheel drive panel vans, fiat/peugeot/renault etc. Also, not enclosed, a small lightweight alloy recovery body might take 1.5t

I never use firelighters, just waste paper, packaging, cardboard etc, bit of thin kindling, away you go. Best is the plain brown card or plain paper at the front, the waxy junk mail crap at the back of the fire.
