Hi Drossi,

The electronic auto tune is no problem, it actually makes the job easier and works well with the mechanical changes I make.

Pros - more power, faster pickup, you can use a smaller saw for larger jobs hence less fatigue on your body. Cons - bit more fuel consumption, more noise, you can't hand a ported saw to an employee.

Costs - I charge circa £150 for porting and includes a clean and service so pretty good value. Aspen isn't an issue - run it from day 1 and it wont need any changes. As far as the big enough difference - I have ported blowers, hedge trimmers and saws, it sort of takes you and changes your perception of wood cutting. It isn't for some but most love the gains and feel of a modified saw.....ask others and take a view!

Cheers

2. Violet as you are mixing pigment and not light - you don't even get yellow if it is light..........sorry, did colour matching many years ago - yellow is a base colour - you cant mix other colours to produce it:001_tt2:
3. Just resurrected a BG600 4T backpack blower, someone had repaired the thing before with a new crank but hadn't cleaned the debris out after the big end had detonated! All up and running now.
4. You could try self amalgamating tape but the diesel may attack the tape. The trouble will be that nothing will bond well if there is any oily residue present. A piece of soft rubber and cable ties or similar may do it - no idea how big the fuel pipe is:confused1:
5. Yes, one lot of cutters taking off chip and the others putting them back on.....well, that is what I told the customer:sneaky2:
6. Nope - brand new off eBay:001_rolleyes:
7. The things you end up fixing.....here is the Mini Moto bike that is owned by the son of one of my wifes bookkeeping clients. It wouldn't start well and suspected fuel issues. The motor looks to be a Maxtra long reach trimmer engine, the carb is a copy of a Walbro Wyk and after a few strips, adjusted the "hidden" needle screw, the H speed screw, sorted out the main diaphragm and spacer being the wrong way round and then found the high speed check valve was a bit blocked and once this was done, all was good:thumbup: Also had this saw in with an interesting chain:confused1: The owner had noticed!
8. We can tell that and the days when you aren't eating it:001_tt2:
9. Think it is about time you fitted a loo in your business premises Barrie:001_tongue:
10. Possibly the L screw needs to be a little richer (anti clockwise), if the saw has done some work then it may be a split inlet manifold - sounds like your saw and can end in seizure. Worth pulling the exhaust and making sure the piston looks OK through the exhaust port. It is worth getting it running right as they are decent saws but get seized pretty quickly if not set up correctly! Worth also checking the carb gauze filter, it may have a bit of chip in it causing lean running!
11. It is what the customer likes and demands - can't help it if the rest throw in the towel too early:sneaky2: Stubbys saw was an interesting one though:thumbup:
12. The Mtronic 261s have a good bit of go but have still seen issues on them. The bearing will be doing nothing when the chain is spinning as the bearing will be locked as the clutch engages with the drum. At idle, the bearing will be spinning as the drum is stationary and the clutch is spinning so prolonged idle will cause more wear than using the saw to cut!

That is because you are using DHLs Global system which pays all import duty pre shipping so you don't get the handling charge and duty charge. I reckon it takes the local import duty off, applies the duty imposed of the country of import and is accepted by customs. I agree this works, you are actually paying duty but the handler is paying it for you prior to delivery rather than the PO stinging you for it prior to delivery. The levels of duty are set my Government - paying the duty prior to shipping is the best way.....the other sucks!!!
14. It is a sack of poop:thumbdown:
15. No idea but ALL 261s that I have seen have had shagged clutch drum/bearing/oiler issues....you can draw your own conclusions. The strange thing is the MS200s, MS260s and MS660s seem to be perfect after 10 years use:confused1:

Any spare parts from the US are subject to import tax or VAT in this country, I believe...haven't checked, Imports from China are OK up to £20 and incur tax beyond that. I have brought in parts from the EU, US and from China, China no problem but unless you make a purchase and the import duty is paid up front on US purchases, you will be hit with some form of duty and handling fee plus the sales duty in the country of export! EU is no issue at the moment down to trade agreements!

Mmmm...slack days:001_rolleyes: I like the 395, lots to do on them and turn out well:thumbup:
18. I have done a couple of MS460s and MS440s, DaytheTrees is using one and believe he is happy with it. One of those saws where you do lots of smaller bits that give you decent gains. PM him if you want a review:thumbup:
19. A customer had trouble with a saw I had recently serviced, "only lasted one tank". I had cleaned the carb but found this below and then flushed the tank out and found a load more. All good now!
20. Been a bit quiet on the forum lately....are we all that jaded after Christmas:001_rolleyes: I have had a MS461 in for porting, strange saw with a lot of contradictions inside it. The transfers are on the front of the cylinder, same as the 560XP. The piston is strangely windowed, strangely as there are no cylinder wall lower transfers as the uppers are fed from the front as previously mentioned. The strangest part is a lump of casting bolted to the crankcase opening that pushes in to the piston cavity when the piston is on it's downward stroke. I am guessing that this acts as both a stuffer increasing transfer volume and also a guide to direct the flow toward the lower transfers. There are also some side cut-outs in the crankcase opening and am thinking that these and the piston windows act to increasing the flow in to the transfers. Anyway - the muffler mod was relatively simple, the inlet and exhaust ports were reshaped as there is little widening you can get away with. Ring ends are also an issue being both forward and rear facing. The flywheel key was modified to give around 5 deg ignition advance!
21. Never seen any drowned cat looking air filters in my workshop, just much cleaner ones after a good clean. Just done one off a ported 372 which was running rich even on 1/4 turn. All the mesh opening was filled with a residue of some sort - compressor and carb cleaner left it perfect. On the paper filter ones I usually use carb cleaner on the front and blast from the inside out - never had one look like the fella that cleans his with a brush and water! The only issue I have had is on vintage wire grid and flock ones past their best! I guess I just do what works!!!
22. Spray with carb cleaner/WD40/GT85/Turps etc and blast off with a compressor. Shifts most grot off the filters!
23. It may be slightly offset by getting complacent about the risk of the job in hand but actually knowing of the risks puts you well ahead in minimising risk!
24. Just be aware that the piston skirt doesn't allow for much widening on the exhaust and the ring ends will cause issue on the inlet unless you take it easy! If you did 2mm either side then Oooops, if it is 1mm either side then you should be OK! If you free port then you will probably get a very sluggish pickup:thumbdown:
