  1. The Norwegians (are european as are the British) but choose for certain economic reasons not be be in the EU so the nice fresh salmon and moose meat can be sold into the EU without ROW taxes but also receive funds from the EU. This protects the Agricultural/Forestry/Fishing industries in Norway from the european markets. Sweden Finland/Denmark have a more liberal outlook. The public here would have a problem with log purchase in bundles.
  2. Some good carvings on this site. Welcome to ChainsawChick.com!
  3. Some of the old victorian cast open fireplaces had a curved steel plate that could be closed when not in use. Do check crows have not nested inside the chimney pot as the usual breeze prevents this. If you use the simple bag of straw method I am sure someone will not remember when lighting the fire.
  4. Have you considered reducing the tyre pressures to gain some traction. 10PSI
  5. HMRC seem to spend more time looking for drugs and illegals than stolen machines leaving the UK. I am told often hidden in a pile of scrap materials to leave these shores. Worth checking with the nearest local sea port.
  6. How much diesel does it take to produce a single bale from average materials then transport to the drying area and again chip up and transport to the place of burning as green fuels? Do birds nest in the bales whilst being dried?
  7. That looks dangerous. Chassis on modern Land Rovers should last ten years of average work use without painting/underseals. Less with hard commercial use and manure.
  8. Snow in many areas again. The picture is the HM11.
  9. "One for the road" I hope not! I like a clean licence and driving to work. Weekend with friends some nice cool organic ciders.
  10. RIP. Keep safe out there and take no risks. I have had a couple of close shaves which has now slowed me down.
  11. £30 inc deliveries with min 6 bulk bags and reasonable distance. If the person needed/wanted less then could collect in sacks on a Saturday from site. (Bulk bags are often classed a single trip and we had a good source) Mulch chip was less due to being mixed materials.
  12. I used one for a log business as the horrible shaped wood we felled would not go into a machine. So long as the tip is sharp and the bearings greased then no issues. If people read the instruction info BEFORE use then shoul be no problems. We did hundreds of tons of rings with knots in. Simple and basic which numerous modern machines are not.
  13. Foreign PC Hackers?
  14. We sold fresh woodchip for £2 a sack and £30 bulk bags.
  15. and milk the tourists all seasons:lol: The Norwegians are not in the EU.
  16. Hookroons/Sappies/Logpick/Stickpick are good working tools. Vital if you are tall and doing a lot of firewood.
  17. Is it a Husqvarna chainsaw? Are the seals black or clear?
  18. RIP. From someone who likes the freedom that riding a motorcycle gives. (Take care out there)
  19. Renault Clio 1.5 D doing 68MPG and more on a long run. £30 - 12 months road tax and dirt cheap insurance. We purchased from an auction like BCA. One previous owner and service history with around 20,000 miles from new. Bargain!!
  20. There is a cord that is to be attached to the engine stop to avoid problems. If the logs are lightly held to one side there are not issues with doing small round wood. We all learn by our mistakes:001_rolleyes:
  21. Yes good correct points. It is often the same in Norway regarding ownership of woodland and we could learn from this here. I asked regarding public insurance and told if working in your own woodland if someone is too foolish to walk into a work site that is their problem.
  22. I hope it does allow small woodland business to purchase the woods who will look after them and at the same time earn an income but there is so much nonsence surrounding this issue. I wrote to the 38 degrees team (who are from friends of the earth) and had no response at all. There has been posting elsewhere on this if interested.
  23. Yes I understand all that and have much experience in working horses but if the work idea is also low impact ecology then to many people using an loud petrol guzzling engine with a crane on a large trailer seems odd to me. (Might as well use an Alstor 8x8) Horses also cannot wear ear protection although some have tried cork bungs:lol:
  24. Methane bio digester to work on animal waste?
  25. Yes grown from seed. A lot of hard work and patience. We mix sawdust with soil mulch and horse poo. Spruce are doing well considering the weather this season -14.6C Small scale at present so can use rainwater in dry conditions.
