    coronets

Hi Folks probably get shot down in flames for this thread as i know its been covered ...just dont have time at the minute to read the whole section on coronet pruning. was wondering if my assumption that coronet cuts could be used on living trees is correct? the term monolithing relating only to coronet and fracture pruning on dead hulks? ...again sorry for my lazyness. regards Dave
  3. Havent got time to check at the minute but check out species of Stewartia

    The Moon

I remember going to the Netherlands and seeing vast areas grown using biodynamic techniques, so it certainly does...watch attenboroughs life on earth to see the effects of phases on animal and plant lifecycles.
  5. Think i may of cracked it...what do you think Ambrosia trifida - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  6. Morning folks, can anyone shed light onto what this monstrosity is growing in one of our bird cover crops....it has attained a height of almost 2 meters in 3 months and appears to be semi woody? sorry for the quality of the photos but taken on a blackberry regards Dave:thumbup:
  7. Gutted.....just found the Lupin date has been debunked...oh well that will teach me to research first. BBC - Earth News - '10,000-year-old' seeds debunked
  8. I vaugely remember reading that an artic lupin seed dated to be 10,000 years old gerninated from permafrost, grain found in the pyramids has also been found viable after thousands of years..there are two main groups of seed those being orthodox, the others being recalcitrant. The latter cannot tollerate being chilled as seed embyros may become damaged; as such, are much more difficult to store and as far as i'm aware consist mainly of tropical species?
  9. The Arb Association guide to good climbing practice states; 3.0 All tree climbing equipment used for PPE should have a minimum breaking strength (MBS) of 22KN.
  10. i am lovin that description...i'm definitely a visualiser:lol::lol:
  11. This is an intresting article if you have the time to read it?Araucariaceae (Araucaria family) description
  12. The other thing you have to think about is climate....There was no polar ice during the mild warm, subtropical Cretaceous, which is when the Monkey puzzle was more dominant. Another thing i thought of... Is jet actually Araucaria araucana or another species of Araucaria which was better adapted to life on Pangaea where whitby now exists
  13. Think the reason you find fossilised monkey puzzle is to do with continental drift, ok so perhaps it did grow on the land mass that is now the UK but millions of years ago the continents formed Gondwana land and Pangaea. The UK would have been located in differing latitudes at these times? Then again I could be completly wrong as i'm not quite that old. regards Dave
  14. Sounds like he has a mission ......perhaps parents will get the opportunity to adapt the ground rules??:thumbup:takes a strong person to be a head I guess...however they say first impressions last?
  15. ahh, sorry being reactive there lol:thumbup:
  16. loads of money??:confused1:depends who you work for, check out the job pages in horticulture week if you dont belive me:thumbdown:
  17. Yes i was a professional technical officer for the PSA before the government disbanded it:001_cool:
  18. it amounts to the same thing...cant jump the hoops cant do the job:001_tt2:
  19. As a teacher i find it almost unbelivable to conceive that a large percentage of the population think that our jobs are easy? After all do you lay awake every night thinking how you can produce a better session or reflect on every occurance during the day just to comply with the next round of legislative jargon??we are told to teach with emotional intelligence and empathy...I belive every learner is an indivdual with individual needs...i dont want sympathy for my career choice, after all i chose to help others learn their skills, but please dont tar all teachers with the same brush; its the same in all professions, some individuals are just bad apples?
  20. Thanks for the feedback John, have managed to source a site close to campus but may contact Grimsthorpe or Burley house to see if they would be willing to entertain a group of mixed arbs? Are you now working freelance or are you back at Grimsthorpe? Hopefully your jaunt into teaching has not put you off, are you still working towards your cert ed? kindest regards the bald one
  21. Hi Folks i'm currently searching for a timber yard that has large diameter produce that level 3 arborists could use to establish their mensuration and value estimating skills. not being familiar with this side of forestry at present I would appreciate any help that may be offered ...any yard within a radius of 50 miles of Lincoln could be viable for learner transport. thanking anyone in anticipation Dave
  22. Watcha Gary, just back in at work today..your idea to join in with the fungi foray is a good one...reading the thread it appears that it may be difficult to organise a level 3 trip with other members of arbtalk? perhaps we can try to organise a Riseholme visit there; if enough of you decide you would like to check it out??

  23. It seems insane to me that a qualified teacher would put their career in jeopardy by looting its got to the point where you have to be wary just providing constructive feedback to learners without fear of reprisals due to being misquoted or being misunderstood, a point brought up by many on this thread ?
  24. That will go down well with the IFL.... no job for her in the morning then???
  25. I emphasise fully with those affected by the violence of recent days...Just wonder what damage the media has done [over the years] to the state of the nation? its seems to embrace negativity the majority of the time(imo)...is the world really such a dark place that positive news stories have a lesser value? or does the media belive the general population are people obsessed with other peoples misfortunes...The riots are truely horiffic and cant imagine the terror people are facing, surely the the media should act in the nations intrest and promote positive atitudes;perhaps then people would start to live with more humility?
