  18. Thats an intresting post MonkeyD..known for ages that Orchids had specific fungal symbionts but had not appreciated the same may be true of trees:blushing: Are there any publications that state which species of fungi are clearly associated with specific hosts. Regards Dave:thumbup:
  19. Watched swamp loggers for the first time last night, unfortunately I missed the begining of the episode so found it hard to understand the context of their work?:blushing:all seemed rather destructive? and the felling of a mature Taxodium a complete crime? although must admit I almost wet my self when the guy attempting to fell it couldnt remember which way round the chain fitted on his saw. reality tv gotta love it:thumbup:

  22. Didnt realise there was such a hard learning curve involved with the use of adzes..turns out to be a tool you can use effectively after many hours of graft..most of the waste sapwood was removed with side axes, didnt even know such things existed until I had used one..rather ineffectively I must state:blushing: One thing I remember being totally stunned about was the age of some of robs tools ..some going back to the 1750's and still in incredible condition..The day certainly made me respect the skills and stamina of traditional woodworkers.
  23. Thanks Jason i'll program it into one of my sessions next week. regards Dave:thumbup1:

  25. Thanks LeyburnLad , Thats a powerful and moving account of how accidents effect everyone from the victim, to colleauges and especialy to loved ones. I know it is a highly personal account relating to your fathers incident but could I possibly photocopy your post and allow my Arb students the opportunity to read it. It may avoid others having to endure the hardship and trauma that you and your family had to go through. Respectfully yours Dave
