  1. Brilliant pictures!! I'll have to have a look up there at some point. Only time I've been there is for a rave about 10 years ago. One of the best ones of my life.
  2. Ditto, a reading list would be good if someone could send to me please!
  3. Just a thought, but Atlas cedars are native of a climate much hotter and drier than here. Perhaps the total surface area of the leaves is not enough to cope with transpiring all of the water and movement upwards from the roots has not coped with demand and effectively banged out symptoms of waterlogging. What are the root tips like? I'm probably wrong. Feel free to shoot me down.
  4. Been there, done that, learned my lesson
  5. APC

    stump rot?

turn a bucket upside down and put it over it.
  6. Success! Just had an email from BCA to tell me I passed all three! I was so sure I would be retaking the third paper but got 65 for that one
  7. I went to this for an hour as got free tickets. They were so lucky with the weather, hope it was busier today though than yesterday!
  8. We were kind of in a good situation being a local authority with all individual business units being part of the same "farm" so we found out on Friday and first visits started yesterday. All units are being inspected and we have our part inspected next Friday as one of the last ones. I don't think I have much to worry about, I'm just getting myself stressed out thinking I've missed something. Noone expects the Rural Payments Inquisition!
  9. Hi there, We are getting cross-compliance inspected by RPA across our whole estate over the next 2 weeks. Apart from all land with SFP and HLS, I see they are inspecting land under EWGS. Has anyone had this before? I can't find what they are actually looking at. Will they be out there with a tape measure on hazel stools, will they be counting stumps or looking for something else? I was under the impression Forestry Commission would be inspecting for compliance with EWGS conditions. Does RPA just do the lot then? Yours, Confused of Hampshire.
  10. Got a ring of those surrounding a beech totem pole at work.
  11. That's really good! I like it!!!
  12. Have you tried HSS hire in Winchester?
  13. Are these symptoms similar to Pseudonomas syringae?
  14. Krav Maga, dj'ing techno (with vinyl) and recently mid 95-99 d+b. Kronenbourg, walking my daaaag.
  15. I'm glad it wasn't just me, the question was "for each stage of risk assessment you mentioned in a), describe an example of it". Or something like that. I just tried to put it in context of a forestry operation and talked through how I would go about carrying out the steps in part a). I was the only person doing the exam at BCA, the only person in the room apart from me was the invigilator lady. I was going to ask her what it was actually asking but figured she probably would less of a clue than me. Like I say, I have been party to 100's of risk assessments and have no problem completing them for pretty much any task or machine or event at work or whatever. I just didn't really get what they were asking for. Good luck with yours too!
  16. If anyone is interested, that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, by miles. The first two papers, I think I did pretty good on, I was writing until the end and think I answered the questions fully. The last paper was not so good. I had a total mindblank on one of the questions, and wasn't sure of the meaning of one of the others so could have answered it totally wrong (it was a risk assessment question, something I do every day and have done for years), it was just how it was worded confused me. Maybe I did it right. But i was definitely stumped on the question on pruning, despite it being fundamental. Timings and sizes of cuts went out the window, how to prune anything ever just did not happen. I don't know why though. I just could not describe how to prune shrubs I know exactly what to revise though, if I had given time to revise that previously, rather than concentrate on the bits that intimidated me most (that didn't really come up ) then it would have taken about an hour or two to get it into my skull. How long does ABC tend to take to mark papers? How soon can you do resits? I think I did okay on the first two papers but I think I need to get 70% or above on each paper to pass, is that right?
  17. anyone else doing cert in arb exams tomorrow at berkshire college of agric? my mind has just gone to pot, everything has dribbled out!
  18. Awesome. Gonna see if I can make a mount for Henry Hoover.
  19. Oh did they move Download Festival to Pilton in 2006 this year then?
  20. Was asked to build a memorial bench this week. Milled from oak I felled in the autumn. It was my second attempt at a bench in this design. The first time I built one of these, I was just going to screw the back onto the uprights but decided I'd rather take the time to put them through the uprights. This go was no different really except I think it was much tidier. Anyway, here's a couple of pictures.... I'm going to grind off the thread of the bolts which are exposed under the seat. I was time constrained and didn't have the grinder to hand at the time so will remove as soon as I get a moment.
  21. Apologies for bringing up an old thread but was wondering if anyone had any advice on the setup of the exams. I'm doing mine next month. Do you get like a "choose one question from each section" type thing or is it "do em' all"? I'm currently trying to get my ID's up to scratch, repeating writing down the latins 40-50 times. Seems to be working. If anyone has any past questions then that would be proper helpful! Thanks!
  22. Yes Matty, good pics!
  23. Interesting. They've pulled out the forestry tractor and base unit tickets by the look of it. Also made the rest of the list more flexible as AO1 was mandatory, now it's any "AO" so long as you do one. Think I'm still up for tree planting though, subject to price.
