    Jokes???

This is why math is taught in school. I was riding to work yesterday when I observed a female driver cut right in front of a pickup truck, causing him to have to drive onto the shoulder to avoid hitting her. This evidently angered the driver enough that he hung his arm out his window and "flipped" the woman off. "Man, that guy is stupid," I thought to myself. I ALWAYS smile nicely and wave in a sheepish manner whenever a female does anything to me in traffic, and here's why.......... I drive 48 miles each way every day to work. That's 96 miles each day. Of these, 16 miles each way is bumper-to-bumper. Most of the bumper-to-bumper is on an 8 lane highway. There are 7 cars every 40 feet for 32 miles. That works out to be 982 cars every mile, or 31,424 cars. Even though the rest of the 32 miles is not bumper to bumper, figure I pass at least another 4000 cars. That brings the number to something like 36,000 cars that I pass everyday. Statistically, half of these are driven by females. That's 18,000 women drivers! In any given group of females, 1 in 28 has PMS. That's 642. According to Cosmopolitan, 70% describe their love life as dissatisfying or unrewarding. That's 449. According to the National Institute of Health, 22% of all females have seriously considered suicide or homicide. That's 98. And 34% describe men as their biggest problem. That's 33. According to the National Rifle Association, 5% of all females carry weapons, and this number is increasing. That means that EVERY SINGLE DAY, I drive past at least one female that has a lousy love life, thinks men are her biggest problem, has seriously considered suicide or homicide, has PMS, and is armed. Flip one off? ... I think not.
  2. How about the HH, is that CE marked?

    Close call

tree going over at 25 seconds some incredibly lucky people; some, especially those playing with trains, don't deserve the luck they have!
  5. VTA handbook is great, lots of images and easy to understand, easy to relate to trees you see and work on too. Shigos Modern Arboriculture is also really good for beginners and above. Everything is broken down and explained very clearly. Anything by Mattheck is worth having as his images make complex things understandable. That's a good and reasonably priced start, once you've got through that you could be a bit more selective with what you get next, and what price to pay! Good luck...
  6. In magical land of make believe I think! I see no pedals, or scaring on the bark where it has 'grown over' the frame. Nice if it is true though...
  7. Forgive my ignorance but why boil it? Nice wood btw Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Hi there, BS5837 is as relevant for small garden extension works as for larger scale developments. If you want to and can do it yourself go for it. The only way to find out what level of detail the LA want is to ask them. I would expect they will want to see tree dimensions etc and its position on a map accurately in relation to the new construction. Maybe you could use the plans already submitted? Obviously common sense is encouraged regarding root distributions, but learned knowledge can shed new light. For example fibrous roots are as important as thicker structural roots, they just serve the tree differently. Also roots are often in abundance under paved areas, as water in the soil condenses underneath the paving- things aren't always what common sense dictates, and your tree officer probably knows his onions... I don't know where you are located, but if you need an arboriculturists report try searching the arborists directory on this site, or the arb association and institute of chartered foresters online. Best of luck, Kevin Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  11. Well I was hoping there'd be an abundance of arbtalking ponytail toters to join me in donating as long a length as possible to The Little Princess Trust. But apparently there isn't so I'll go it alone! It's not too late to chop your mop, and in the mean time please see this thread... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=55072 Cheers all Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. Hi all, in memory of my Nan who died early last year I am donating my hair to The Little Princess Trust. They make real hair wigs for children suffering hair loss through cancer treatment. I am asking for donations to MacMillan Cancer Care in support of this. Please show your support by visiting my JustGiving page and donating whatever you see fit: http://www.justgiving.com/Kevin-Surridge-Dines Many thanks, and good health... Please dig deep everybody. This hair's been growing wild about 5 years. By my reckoning if all the hair from my ponytail was laid end to end it would reach around 30 miles. That's a 1/4 of the M25! Photos to be added soon. (Of the hair, not the motorway...) Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I am donating around 20-21 inches, over half a metre, of ponytail to The Little Princess Trust, http://www.littleprincesses.org.uk/ and hoping to raise some money for MacMillan Cancer Support in the process. The Little Princess Trust will use my hair to make wigs for children suffering hair loss a result of cancer treatment, which is much better than just hanging of my ugly melon! MacMillan offer a wide range of support for sufferers of cancer, and helped out my Nan who sadly passed away early last year. She was an inspirational woman to me, a real fighter and a friend to any and everyone who she met.* *Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.- See more at: https://www.justgiving.com/Kevin-Surridge-Dines/?utm_source=emailvision&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=FR_page_creation#sthash.694EyJK9.dpuf Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  25. Difficult to advise from pics alone. What are the targets if it failed? Who thinned it and why? Has any fungi been seen fruiting? Is the black colouration on the rotten wood, which presumably came from within the cavity, like thin sheets? Or more a discolouration of the wood itself? If in doubt and the client values the tree perhaps get a local consultant to have a look and advise what if anything should be done. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
