  1. At Kew Gardens today I noticed this on several tree species. Often of the same age and side by side or in a group. I noticed it on oak in the conservation area, several species of birch, a group of wollemia (clones I think) and some exotic species I have forgotten! My thoughts at the time where it could be micro climate (it seemed trees, or even branches on the same tree, in the shade where lagging slightly) or stress related (trees nearer heavily used paths or with large branches previously removed where behind). None where as dramatic as your two beech though, good spot

  4. 50 hrs would add up, very quickly!
  5. Can anybody explain this please?! How do you know what counts as points towards it, and how many? What about keeping a record, proof of attendance to events, a note of time spent reading what? Perhaps I'm being dense but I can't seem to find out myself. Cheers all....
  6. Interesting, thank you.
  7. Anybody here a member? If so is it worth it, has it brought more work? How about the different recognized specialisms - how did you find the assessments, or have you had to go on a raft of extra courses?! Any comments welcome. Thank you...
  8. The knots app is turning out to be quite handy even though I don't often use it, its nice to mess about with rope! One small thing: when updating it would be nice to know which knots are new. I look through but can't tell what's been added. Not a big deal, just a thought...
  9. Not a funny quote, but when your two year can't sleep and it's 2am and you begin to get rather stressed, having her hug you and say 'you're my best friend ever Dad' just melts the heart!
  10. Looks good This has developed into a top thread
  11. Looks like the exhibition is on till 5 June in London, might be worth a visit if local...
  12. Hadn't really thought about how it is done. Could well be acid, or an enzyme which breaks down lignin, if such a thing exists in a readily available form?
  13. Why wait?

    Hard Dutchman?
  19. Hi all, a little advice please: two years ago I planted a tiny little honeysuckle and it now has about ten feet of growth on it. It has just opened up its buds last week, and now I want to move it! Do you reckon it could survive uprooting and moving now, or is it too late? I have room to chase and dig up probably most of its root system if that helps. I'd rather it didn't die. Thoughts please...

  23. What's with the new, well endowed mushroom man/reindeer beast sketch thing Hama?!
  24. Where's that 'like' button?
  25. As I understand it the white/grey immature form does not produce spores, that's the job of hard black crust. With that in mind, spores could be produced whenever the black crust is present; although I would expect it to stop when it reaches a certain age. (This may be wrong and I stand to be corrected) What is the reason behind waiting to grind the stump? If the Kretz is there and sporulating it will be releasing spores whether you grind or not. I'd have thought the sooner the stump (and fruit bodies) are gone the less the spores will be 'out and about' in the area...
