  1. Nice clear pics I will stick my neck out and say it is an Acer. As for species, platanoides, capadocium? Who knows, have to wait and see. Any pics of bark or tree form would help. I love all the fresh growth this time of year, it feels like winter has finally ended!
  2. Makes a change from the usual balls ups. Robot at 4:30 = awesome!please note, I cannot reimburse your time spent watching this if you disapprove. So direct you complaints elsewhere!

    A puzzle...

Looks like it is impossible then. I wonder how many hours I wasted trying this when I should have been paying attention in school!?

    A puzzle...

The background to it, as I was told, is the three houses belong to very wealthy people who don't get along. As a result they all want their own unique line, and are not willing to share or have a line go from their own house to another. So passing under a house wouldn't work (like joining houses in a chain), and neither would linking services together...

    A puzzle...

Forget about April 1st, this is a genuine post! I was shown this many many years ago and have forgotten how it is done. Come to think of it my childhood memory is so hazy I might not have seen it completed and just taken someones word it is possible. Anyway, puzzle goes: -the top three dots are houses, below them are gas (G) water (W) and electricity (E) stations. -each house must have its own G, W & E. -lines cannot cross. -lines cannot join from one house to another. -lines cannot 'split' First person to post a solution wins nothing but admiration
  12. Agreed, however 'normal' amounts aren't a concern. So if there wasn't a high concentration in the soil at the time of heartwood formation, it wouldn't then accumulate years later, would it?
  13. Could have been, laeti growing on Taxus is known to absorb toxins, although In what quantities I don't know. Also some ground dwelling shrooms, puffball and others can collect and concenrate heavy metals; so they shouldn't be eaten from roadside pickings. I have been wary of eating laeti from roadside oaks for that reason, but wondered if it may be ok. Thoughts being the laeti is decaying heartwood (lets just say formed by the tree before said road existed) so may not come into contact with pollutants from a road. I don't suppose anyone knows for certain, but trees used to absorb toxins/contaminants from polluted sites may well pass them on to their fungal friends...
  14. Agree with that. I've felt fairly nervous up dead, decayed trees before. Take bits small to start, once you've got the ends off even a 20stone fatty won't make much difference to a tree that stood through the last strong winds. At least that's what I told myself!
