  1. I had an iPhone and a couple of months ago moved to HTC desire, I find it much better than the iPhone, haven't used a 4 though. The whole phone runs more smoothly and with no glitches, if your into apps I think the free ones on android are better than any on iPhone, although most seem pointless on both! The qwerty keypad on blackberries I like the look of more than the touch screen pad I have, though predictive text helps a lot. Think its probably a case of either or.
  2. Would it be the same psuedomonas that gets cherry? Shot holing the leaves?
  3. I've seen a saw wielding woman working in the Colchester area a couple of times. My first boss' wife used to ground for him when he started out, and I've a friend whose partner used to help him out. So if you are game for it, I'd say go, it can be tough going though, may need to 'butch' up a bit
  4. Mental, pure mental...
  5. Cheers AA techie, will look into it, sounds promising, and a good price, do you want commission?
  6. Cheers, will give them a go
  7. Thanks all, treequip, good advice, so you think my insurer would/should give some guidance in their t&c's with me? As a side note, I imagine there are other threads dealing with it, but who would you recommend as a good pi insurer? I'm currently getting a quote from w r Berkeley through bjp ins, anyone had any dealings with them?
  8. Thanks for the reply, so its really not too important how its worded? I suppose if you had missed something you shouldn't it would be up to the court to decide negligence, regardless of what your limitations are, within reason. I guess one of the more important things to include, for the customers sake if not your own, is how long the report is valid/when you recommend reviewing it; maybe
  9. My boss recently purchased one of these, have yet to see it really working, but what little it has was done very well. Helluva machine There's talk of putting the arisings through a grader of some sort to remove things like chunks of fence post and long stringy bits, otherwise its not compost! No idea of charges. Can let you know more about its workings when I see it in action, good luck with the demo
  10. Guess as the exams are all over it'd ok to talk about them now. Wondered who else on here was doing any part of the Aa tech cert at chorley, and how they felt they did, what they kicked themselves about straight after! I know I kicked my self several times for several things, for several days after! Honestly a little concerned about the 5837, terrible time management as I lacked a watch, only had 20 minutes left after messing about with q1. Quietly confident about the rest, though I know I could have added a lot more if my brain wasn't so preoiccupied. Also wasn't sure what the brackets on the beech near the golf course were. Put ganoderma sp, but could've been innonotus? Maybe someone could put my mind to rest?
  11. Hi all, wondered what everyone includes in the fine print of any survey/consulting work they do? Ie. What are the report limitations, 'in my/our opinion', report valid from/until, adverse weather etc etc. Do your insurers have certain requirements? If tits went up, would self typed limitations stand up in court? Do you have the client sign to say they have received or understood it? Also, do you keep a paper copy for yourself, or will digital do? Thanks for letting me pick your brains, look forward to the response
  12. Not exactly, the question gives you an area to work within. In that area the 'client' wishes to place a car park of a given size with lighting and access of a minimum width. It is up to you to suggest where the car park, power/lights and access could go, highlighting any arb implications from the construction and use of the finished park; and suggesting ways around these problems. Hope that helps:confused1:
  13. Just had a look at the sketchup software, looks interesting. So can u plot trees onto existing maps? Do you also need autocad to place the file/info into? Also, can u have 'layers' like autocad does, and assign tags or numbers to trees? What about shade/rpa's? Arbculture- the drain cover could have been noted in the context of the exam question in that car park run off could be drained through it, it may have a bearing on where you chose to place the car park, and it could have been noted on the map. I'm sure there will be other reasons, but I didn't notice it anyway!
  14. I thought 100 sounded a little on the low side, considering insurance, travel costs and seeing/hearing anywhere between 65 and 100 per hour for this sort of work. And hopefully results will be soon, was told by one examiner they may well be sooner than 8 weeks as papers don't need to be sent from here to there and back again for marking/moderating, fingers crossed, will be pulling out hair by Xmas!
  15. Once again thanks for all the replies, really appreciate it! I just did tech cert at chorley last week, and guessing from one the other threads I'd say was in the same 5837 as you, I was the hairy faced pony tail toting hippy hope it went ok for you, I'm worried I spent too long on the first question, only leaving about 20 mins for the 40 marker at the end! Silly git, sure the others went ok though
  16. Thanks for the replies folks, helps a lot So its entirely possible to do 5837's without a cad programme, that's good to know, as they seem quite expensive. Would the larger developers out there be happy with that, I have an opportunity to maybe squeeze my foot in the door, but don't want to run before I can walk. Starting on smaller scale/domestic sites would be preferable. I've been on the practical tree work side of developments for a while now and seen plenty of TCP's and carried out tree works accordingly (much of which seems pointless or outrageous, but that's just my opinion!) and have only seen cad produced maps. Other question, if its ok to ask, is how do you price 5837 jobs, without scaring the client off from the start or giving them a nasty surprise after initial works? Thanks for letting me pick your brains, this seemed like the best site to try!
  17. Hi all, new here and looking for a little advice/insight into how you may go about 5837 work. I understand that the best way would be to survey and plot on something like autocad or arborcad. But is it feasible in a work based situation to ask a client for a paper copy of the land survey and to plot it on that instead? Also, if I had autocad software and was given a copy of the land survey would it come with tree positions plotted on it, or is this something I would need to do myself when doing a schedule? Sorry if I sound clueless, but learning about 5837 with a view to understanding the standard and passing an exam, doesn't really set me up to know how a real life work situation would go; what order things actually proceed in, and what is expected by who etc. Eg, the standard says the survey should be done prior to building layout design etc, however in my experience this is rarely the case! Any advice gratefully received, many thanks
