  1. While we're on the subject, can I upload pics to the forums from my HTC desire Android phone? Would be very good if anyone knows a way, many thanks
  2. Good advice. Might I also suggest if you don't have much climbing experience (which I assume from what you have written, sorry if I am wrong) you try and sub in more experienced persons to help out when needed, or do work with other companies that know what's what. As said, sorry if you have this experience; I'd worry about inexperienced people taking on more than they can chew. A new climber I worked with last year had his ticket nearly two years, within a fortnight working with us he made a silly mistake up a 30 foot pine and nearly went right through his arm. I was the only other person on site, pretty scary, made think and now see things a bit differently/more clearly. Good luck whatever you do, know your limits, don't be afraid to ask questions and of course, be safe
  3. That'll be the one, felling a row of 50 aspen, about 30-40 feet tall along a road, several gone over in that very fashion already in the last few years. On closer inspection they all have it, and associated rot, with what look old armillaria on a few of the worst. Tricky to spot, right in/below the grass. Thank you
  4. I have been told in the past but since forgotten; I have found bore holes in the butt of a row of poplars, all holes about 10mm, at ground level. Only as deep as the cambium, then going down through the inner bark. There are quite a lot on the trees which are affected. Anyone care to put a name to the critters responsible?
  5. Hi Giles, I think I have pm'd you, but not sure if it went through ok.
  6. See my post in employment forum for details
  7. Hi, I am in the process of starting business as a surveyor, but have already lost my first job due to a specific request for a level 3 (ie tech cert qualified) surveyor. I am therefore putting the feelers out for someone with this qual in the essex/suffolk border area to assist me when such jobs arise in the future. I have spoken with my prospective insurer and been told you would need your own insurance. Ideally I would like any of this 'sub contracting' work to be done through me under my company name. Planning ahead, someone with decay detection equipment would be good, for when the need arises. I am happy to discuss terms, rates etc. If it meant getting a job as opposed to not I would not mark up price for the client, but would like to be present for any surveying, as I am keen to learn anything from everyone when possible! Especially those of superior knowledge Pm me if you are interested, thanks for reading.
  8. Bless. Good luck mate!
  9. I clip both ends on one side and suspend my weight off the d's when advancing my main line quite often! Should I not? Is it dangerous, I've always felt safe and always done it
  10. Have a home birth. Everything and everyone in the same comfortable relaxed place, no ambulances, no traveling, no waiting for a bed etc etc.... ...best choice my wife and ever made Hope it all goes smoothly!
  11. The suggestion of saying I never received it was more of a joke, shame it didn't get across as such to some of you! Oh well, have spent 20 mins on an 0845 number to complain, and expect nothing will happen anyway. Hopefully this will stop it in future. And johnsie it wasn't from you, you split tail I won in the raffle from you fit the letter box fine! Thank you
  12. Incredibly poor service, will definitely be complaining
  13. I've just had post delivered, one small package through the letter box, I heard the postman come up the stairs (I live in a flat) post it and leave, no doorbell, no knocking. Hours later when I went out there were two boxes on doorstep, one supposedly to be signed for. Surely this is wrong, anyone could take them! On top of that, I have some very unsavory neighbours and a note on the door saying not to leave parcels with any of them, one currently in prison for theft! What would you do? Complain to royal mail? Or keep it and say it was never delivered! Oh, and last week a parcel was delivered to the right number, but the wrong road! Luckily the guy came and gave it to me, but not before opening it not impressed
  14. Give treelife a call, they offer all sorts, and are very knowledgeable; if they don't have a suitable option I'm sure they can offer advice as to your best route. Good luck
  15. Remember watching it back then and thinking what a whining little ijit he was didn't see the other shows. I wonder if he's still at it, may even be a member here!
  16. Makes a lovely hedge, we regularly trim several, often covered in critters. I forget what they are called, but I don't think (I may well be wrong) they are green/whitefly, but something specific to beech. I've never seen them kill a hedge, two that I trim about 6-8 feet tall are particularly covered in them (and itch like mad when they fall on you!) yet they grow like mad.
  17. Wooly aphids?
  18. With lots of firm but carefull pulling did the trick for me! There may be an easier way that I don't know of/couldn't figure out. I held the unit in a vice and tried various pliers mole grips etc to grab the bolt and wiggle jiggle and pull till it came. As I said, I was replacing the metal casing and had to completely strip it down on two pole saws. The first one I didn't know about the screw thread until I'd tried tapping it out from within the gear housing, given up, and hacksawed it out to put in the new one. Wasn't until I cleaned it up I noticed the thread! It is incredibly tight, but possible, good luck!
  19. I recently changed the metal gear housing on two a few weeks ago as the hooks had snapped off. In doing so I discovered the oil pump is a bugger to remove/ replace! The only way to do it without splitting open the gear housing is to access it through a hole in the bottom, covered with a piece of black plastic, it has a screw thread with which to insert a screw to pull it out with. Very tight! The oil channel then runs to the chain from there, you could try blowing the channel back through perhaps. Make sure to replace it in the same orientation as it came out. Or if it is a newer model the breather valve coming through from where the bar is mounted may be blocked, causing a vacuum, they only cost a few quid to replace. Hope this makes sense and helps
  20. Sorry I don't have pics, but I often see 'buckling' similar to the oak above on London plane with apparently no rot at all. Is this just a feature of them, or body language caused by external factors? Just a thought
  21. Split tail in the post today, thanks fr Jones! Didn't even know I'd won anything

    ipod apps

Don't know if its available on ipod, but android market has a rogers mushrooms app which is pretty good
  23. I'd have said that as just an employee its not/was not your responsibility to check for tpo's. Who did the work I'd have also said is irrelevant, it is up to your boss to deal with that, especially if he's told you that any tree you are sent to work on has been checked. I could be wrong, but I wouldn't sweat it too much. You should be fine
  24. Well its now 6:40 and my teething 10 week old has just gone to sleep! I'll be doin the same I think, no work for me! Hope you all slept well and have a good start to the week
  25. I couldn't see a way, but it took less than 5 mins to do it with my debit card
