  1. whats porn???
  2. there's probably cheaper ways than that to make urself feel young!!!
  3. shame to cut such a nice tree down, but it'd look nice on my woodburner!!!! nicely done IMO:001_tongue:
  4. a big box turned up on a courier today with the wife's name on.......i'm smiling as a box that big which might contain my xmas present looks very promising!!!!!:biggrin:
  5. As with anything 'environmentall friendly' u end up normally paying a premium for it IMO. But the demand is created by the part of the market that cannot support itself, ie the avergae homeowner doesn't want to spend the weekend getting cold and dirty chopping wood. Hence there's a very high demand for it, but for those of us who love it, it still a cheap source of heat........... all the green energy schemes are doing is hopefully ensuring the goverment meets its green targets it has agreed to meet? And if we can use those scheme's to ur advantage then why not, but i don't think u'll ever make money from them? IMO Would u agree?
  6. Now i'm gonna chuck in a thought here, there was a thread a while back about a chap who'd done his training course on chainsaws, think he said he'd done CS30/31 but don't quote me, yet after the 'training' he still didn't know he had to put petrol in the with 2 stroke oil to fill the fuel tank instead he mixed 2stroke with chain lub. Now tell me if i'm wrong but surely that shold be the first basic part of your initial training course? And if the training misses basic instruction like this what does it actually say about the quality of the rest of the information you are taught??? Realised i've probably lined my neck up with the guilotine of death, and am gonna get teared to pieces but i think its a point that needs to be considered?:confused1:
  7. looks hard work bending over holding onto that!!!
  8. Hi I'm just considering the same thing, a 60kw eco angus for our big farmhouse. We used to have a farm 2000 wood bolier for 25 years, then when it rotted out and oil was 8p/litre and my father was diagnosed with parkinsons we went to oil burner. Now it cost a fortune to have the heating on for just 4 0r 5 hours a night so i'm looking at doing the same. I am unsure of grants, but i have been advised that if i can prove its for commercial use, ie i use it to heat something on the farm aswell like the employee's mess room, i can get into the commercial RHI which then makes it worth the extra cost of fitting in my eyes i think. Now i'm hoping not to have to buy much if any wood for it, we shold have plenty around the farm, but somebody on here and i can't remember who said to claim the grant i have to purchase the wood from a 'registered fuelwood supplier' which obviously would never make it worth doing? Anyone else heard this? Some interesting stuff coming out of this, i'm hoping the plumber who is accredited will allow me to do some of the ' meneal work ' to save a few quid but who knows?
  9. i asked the same question, heres the thread link (i hope!) hope this answers the question! http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/chainsaws/33811-chainsaw-bow-saw-why.html
  10. seen a landrover with some studding bar cut to length holding the front radius arms onto the front axle. Owner didn't see the problem with using some 4.4 grade threaded bar instead of 10.9 grade bolts........... refused to let me change it. I refused to work on it for fear of an accident and then him blaming me, so he took it elsewhere!
  11. left me mobile on the feed intake our forager, obviously not enough steel in it to set the metal detector off.......needless to say by the time i rememered it was long gone in a trailer!!! Glad i'm not the only one to do daft tings!!!
  12. here's my tupence for what its worth! Vertical, waist high table as big as u can, simple log lift once side for big bits. Single speed pump, i've found the ram will return quick enough by the time u've moved the logs about and its cheaper. Get a balance of speed and power, and don't think u need to have it so big it will split anything u put infront it, as the few bits u can't split and have to put the saw through far out weighs the slower cycle times by having more pressure!!! also the one i made myself is pedal operated so u stil have both hands at all times for moving logs, highly HSE unfriendly i guess but much easier to use!!! Hope that helps!
  13. See ur working along the same lines as i think, i tried to explain this theory to the natural england chap who came to view the proposal for our HLS, but he would have none of it!!! They had there set ideal and wouldn't see what i thought to be logical to get the best out of the situation!!! So frustrating!!! Only issue i have with removing all grass after topping, is u also remove any seeds which may help to increase the soils wild flower seed bank. But there's always two sides to a story!!!
  14. a wood burner????? we've got some nice ones around a shed dad planted years ago, but there also burn well when a bit needs chopping off when leaning on the shed!!!
  15. i can see ur point, but i'm still staying to my side of the fence. Ur going down a very narrow route, that allows little room for change of plan if he decides to change his mind. Also because if i'm wrong then i'm up a creek with a barb wire canoe and no paddle with our HLS scheme. Also as a reasoning for my side of the fence, aleopathic interactions play a large part in wild flower colonies in reversion projects. Don't dispute after a longer perios of time, this become less dominant but in the short term future say 10-15years i think it will allow the desired species to stay dominant enough to create the desired effect with annual topping at worst! what do u think?
  16. i like volunteers, always willing if there anygood! Were down south driving tractors, but best of luck with the search, it should come up trumps in my book!
  17. dust is already sorted with filtered air masks, they have carbon filters but doesn't take out all the two stroke smell!! So hopefully it'll help that front, but its never gonna be perfect!!!
  18. Looks like ur right, huh! Never mind its a good excuse not to spend money for once!!!
  19. far as i can the the new ones only do three tons unless u go to the 4litre v8 edition which will do 3.5tons but i don't fancy feeding thats fuel appetite!!! really a pain in the arse for us these days!
  20. Was hoping somebody was gonna name a pickup, but also am looking at newer trucks say under 12months old but the towing weight does seem to be the limiting factor........ we need all we can get for around the farm use!
  21. afraid i disagree, we've planted about 25ha of wild flower's on fertile arable land for our HLS scheme and they've done superbly, all we did was top it at the end of the first year.
  22. here's a question directly related to this topic....... what 4x4 other than a landy will LEGALLY tow 3.5Tons gross?????? I used to be a landy man through and through, but alas i'm slowly falling out of bed with them. So what else will tow 3.5tons??
  23. If its registered with the RPA then u can probably enter into a wildlife scheme with them, such as HLS, if they will agree to it on only 4acres, probably earn u £1000/year for doing what ur already planning on doing! Good luck!
  24. Just ordered some so look forward to seeing what it's like! Price is not so good and I can't pass it on so hope the health benefits are true!!!!!
  25. well read half this thread and decided i'd try some and see how i got on with it, not a heavy user but often in confined spaces with a disc cutter so thought i'd try to reduce the chance of me breathing in nastys!! I'll be interested to see if it makes and difference and smells of pot puri from the exhaust!
