  1. left me mobile on the feed intake our forager, obviously not enough steel in it to set the metal detector off.......needless to say by the time i rememered it was long gone in a trailer!!! Glad i'm not the only one to do daft tings!!!
  2. See ur working along the same lines as i think, i tried to explain this theory to the natural england chap who came to view the proposal for our HLS, but he would have none of it!!! They had there set ideal and wouldn't see what i thought to be logical to get the best out of the situation!!! So frustrating!!! Only issue i have with removing all grass after topping, is u also remove any seeds which may help to increase the soils wild flower seed bank. But there's always two sides to a story!!!
  3. a wood burner????? we've got some nice ones around a shed dad planted years ago, but there also burn well when a bit needs chopping off when leaning on the shed!!!
  4. i can see ur point, but i'm still staying to my side of the fence. Ur going down a very narrow route, that allows little room for change of plan if he decides to change his mind. Also because if i'm wrong then i'm up a creek with a barb wire canoe and no paddle with our HLS scheme. Also as a reasoning for my side of the fence, aleopathic interactions play a large part in wild flower colonies in reversion projects. Don't dispute after a longer perios of time, this become less dominant but in the short term future say 10-15years i think it will allow the desired species to stay dominant enough to create the desired effect with annual topping at worst! what do u think?
  5. i like volunteers, always willing if there anygood! Were down south driving tractors, but best of luck with the search, it should come up trumps in my book!
  6. dust is already sorted with filtered air masks, they have carbon filters but doesn't take out all the two stroke smell!! So hopefully it'll help that front, but its never gonna be perfect!!!
  7. Looks like ur right, huh! Never mind its a good excuse not to spend money for once!!!
  8. far as i can the the new ones only do three tons unless u go to the 4litre v8 edition which will do 3.5tons but i don't fancy feeding thats fuel appetite!!! really a pain in the arse for us these days!
  9. Was hoping somebody was gonna name a pickup, but also am looking at newer trucks say under 12months old but the towing weight does seem to be the limiting factor........ we need all we can get for around the farm use!
  10. afraid i disagree, we've planted about 25ha of wild flower's on fertile arable land for our HLS scheme and they've done superbly, all we did was top it at the end of the first year.
  11. here's a question directly related to this topic....... what 4x4 other than a landy will LEGALLY tow 3.5Tons gross?????? I used to be a landy man through and through, but alas i'm slowly falling out of bed with them. So what else will tow 3.5tons??
  12. If its registered with the RPA then u can probably enter into a wildlife scheme with them, such as HLS, if they will agree to it on only 4acres, probably earn u £1000/year for doing what ur already planning on doing! Good luck!
  13. Just ordered some so look forward to seeing what it's like! Price is not so good and I can't pass it on so hope the health benefits are true!!!!!
  14. well read half this thread and decided i'd try some and see how i got on with it, not a heavy user but often in confined spaces with a disc cutter so thought i'd try to reduce the chance of me breathing in nastys!! I'll be interested to see if it makes and difference and smells of pot puri from the exhaust!
  15. i wish my wife would get the gravity of trying to sneak one of those pot pouri smelling tea bags in my cup instead of a proper cuppa!!! She says it would enhance my taste buds.............
  16. i'm sure there's a saw docotr website where u can find ur local saw doctor (who will obviosly sort the job out!) but i can't quite find the page i think i'm looking for, just search google for it and have a look i'm sure its there somewhere.......either that or the 2nd cup of tea hasn't yet stopped my brain dreaming!
  17. any good agricultural dealer who does round balers would be able to do a good job.
  18. I've put them in a single layer in the tub and noticed some of the acorns were shooting when i picked them up. The rest are just chucked in and see what happens. Thats for all the help, did think it should work, i will put some of the soil from where they came around them see if that helps!! Cheers Muchly:biggrin:
  19. exactly my thoughts!!! Lots of driving on dust and tarmac but no snow/ice!
  20. what do u lot reckon then? Wonder if there expensive or actually work? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XNrV2gTUOM&feature=fvwrel]snow chains - next generation (part one) - YouTube[/ame]
  21. Hi Right can anyone tell me if i'm barking mad planting a load of acorns/conkers/beech nuts/pine cones/sycamore seeds into some tubs and hoping they are going to grow so i can plant them in a few years? Many Thanks:biggrin:
  22. been through many a phase....... folk, dance, trance, acid house, hard house, rave, metal, hard rock, dubstep, oh and Claire Maguire is very high on the list...... and probably some more, but my favourite is still a good trance track with some good female vocal across it. Can't stand anything to do with a talent show.....all talentless IMO:sneaky2: But this has to be one of my all time fav's! [ame] [/ame]
  23. have used it twice, once with good success from a chap who just thought he could get away without paying me. Second time wasn't so good, discovered that not even courts can get some people to pay without it costing a small fortune. It ended up costing what the chap owed, but by then it was the principle of the job! Go for it, but it won't be quick or pleasant but sometimes u gotta do what ur principles make u do!
  24. Only problem with having a nurse as a wife is they don't worry too much about things so sometimes sympathy can a bit low on the ground ! The farm vet stitched me up after cutting my leg during a tb test, saved a wait in a&e and my kitchen chair has a lot less nasties than a&e!!!! Only problem is now every time he brings out a new student or colleague I have to yank me trouser leg up so he can demonstrate the versatility of his skills!
  25. To get the vin plate changed with dvla, it'll need to have a sva test with vosa. They'll give u a bit of paperwork and as usual in the world it will tick a box and that should make dvla's computer print the right v5 document for you.
