  1. Its been great this year weatherwise.T shirts, hoodies, etc, but the last couple of days have taken a turn for the worst, and complacency resulted in a soaking yesterday on a strimming job. I`ve used a german army surplus flectarn jacket in goretex for a couple of years, but its allowing water in and theres nothing like the feeling of wet down the backs of your arms. Whats out there? not bothered what it is or how much it costs. All it needs to be is compact, durable, comfortable and waterproof. What say ye.
  2. Ive had a few good deals on ebay but there is some crap on there. My best deals have been `buy it nows` in the week and some auctions ending in the week. Worst time to bid is on anything finishing Friday, and Saturday eve.You are up against p!$$ed up people who will bid up without thinking. Best deal was an 026, hardly used, for 95 quid.Deceased estate, where the beneficiaries just want to turn everything into money having cleared out garages and sheds etc.Thats what you`re looking for if you read carefully between the lines. Downside is, spending a lot of time on it during the week looking for just posted stuff at a cheap rate.
  3. Stihl 046.Cant see me ever getting rid of it.If it dies i`ll rebuild it.Perfect size and power.I use an 18" and 25" bars on it.If i had to go anywhere and didnt know what i would encounter, but could only take one saw. This would be it.
  4. Yeah, i think its a 266 sl.Only had a cursory glance over it and checked compression, chain brake function. It had no fuel in it and was hardly marked underneath.I was interested in the lawnflites primarily and got the saw chucked in as part of negotiations.A nominal 25 quid.
  5. My best bodge is running my disco right now.Wagon wouldnt start and i suspected the battery wasnt charging as the alternator belt was loose.Charged the battery and replaced all belts.Still no joy.Metered relay and solenoid, and was sat thinking what the hell, and saw the guts of the ignition hanging out. Bodged up a length of wire to fire up the ignition and work the starter while i waited for a new lock/ignition assembly to arrive. Figured out that the same system that stops scumbags stealing cars also makes life difficult for owners to change ignition barrels.Bolts shear off when torque is reached. It needs to be sawn off with great difficulty. I now have a key for the steering lock and another for the ignition which sits next to the transfer box stick.I think it will be there for some time.
  6. I have: ms 180 for swinging about all day while not getting tired.Definately punches above its weight, 026, had this a few years.2005 model, but with a piped exhaust to open it up a bit.046.Definately my fav saw.A couple of bars for it, an 18" and a 25".064, bit of a marmite saw which i put a foot on and have two hands on the pullstart, but rips.Having new mains squeezed in at the moment.200t,great saw, and a little makita dcs230t.Love this.Very light and a joy to have hanging from my harness.Picked it up as a non runner for thirty quid. All it needed was a new carb rubber.Best value of the lot.Stihl pole saw.Well handy. I`m open minded about brands and will shortly have a husky coming as part of a job lot of mowers from an old boy with a large acreage and wants rid.No markings and the chainbrake is the old wire type.Hardy used and with good compression, i`m thinking it looks like a 60cc saw, which will fit in just nicely.I just dont know much about older huskys.
  7. Zubat.Love it.Curved blade, and it gives a nasty bite.

    New strimmer

I`ve had one a number of years and its been a great little strimmer.I use it for garden edging, clearing rough areas, and a fair bit of work on a pheasant shoot. Very versatile for its size.Mine has the handlebars.
  9. I have to take a remote control and get sub titles up.
  10. There are, but i take as i find.A mate i work with often is croatian. He does however, follow the rules and to a high standard. No problem with that.
  11. Call me a racist if it makes you feel better Bren, but theres a lot of instances of people from abroad coming here and setting themselves up doing jobs with no regard for rules and regulations.Doing dangerous work, driving with no license. It permiates into all industries. If i was to set up abroad, first step would be to learn the language.Second would be to learn the rules and get trained to the local standard.
  12. No, not really, but these tend to be the type of folk who work to no standard, use unsafe working practices, are unqualified, uninsured. It doesnt worry them, so i wont lose any sleep over it.

    Running in?

I used my new echo long reach today for the first time.Fired it up and let it reach temperature before cracking on.They are not stressed like a saw. This is what the dealer recomended and i`m sure it will be fine.
  14. Who in their right mind would buy life support equipment from a car boot sale?If its not good enough for the company selling it, then its likely not good enough for anyone. Why sell servicable gear? If someone who cant speak English properly bought it then i couldnt care less.If a mate, or someone i know bought it, then i would have some concerns.
  15. Forrest Gump The island Dances with wolves
  16. I`ve got my galaxy s3 in an otterbox.I`m clumsy, and have destroyed numerous phones, but the otterbox has evaded my best attempts at wrecking the s3, which is an easy to damage phone. Its been dropped on concrete from head height numerous times, and fallen from other heights onto the ground safely. If you dont buy an s3, buy an otterbox.
  17. The nut is a ` simonds locknut`.It relies on the ring of nylon for its ability to lock the thread.Obviously you wouldnt want to do, undo it repeated times, but just to fit it would be fine.I`ve done a couple and they`re still tight.
  18. About time we started doing that instead of obeying the EU chapter and verse.
  19. I`ve just dropped a few quid on a rigging kit, but i think it will make me more versatile, and make certain jobs easier.Yeah its a few sovreigns, but i`m sure it will pay for itself.Money well spent really.
  20. Sounds good mate, i`m thinking of buying an ELH in the near future.Looks a good labour saving product.Good luck with the research.
  21. The Husky forestry helmet is good value.Being a tightwad, i swap the husky muffs and visor to my petzl for climbing work.A couple of minutes effort to snap them in and out and the husky muffs are comfortable.
  22. Mate, if thats all you want, dimensions, close ups etc, cant ELH do them and send them to you?
  23. This was circulating on facebook for a while with a bit more detail. The gypos said they paid 300 bones for it in good faith, and the police said they would have to get on to social services to have the family put in b&b, so decided against it. Firstly, if you buy something grossly underpriced then it is likely stolen goods and you would question that fact, as would any law abiding honest bod in the street. If you go ahead with the purchase then you are liable to be charged with handling stolen goods.A 30k caravan for 300?really? Secondly, social services are there for exactly that.Providing emergency social housing. These scumbags should have been arrested, charged, and stuck in b&b.If they kicked up a bit of blunt force trauma wouldnt have gone amiss.
