  1. Thats deffo a fake.bodyswerve it.
  2. Keep that bad boy.Awesome older saw.Make good money if you do decide to sell though.
  3. Whistling kettles always on ours.Mrs often has a game stew bubbling away on it during weekends.Just the thing when me and my lad come back from beating.Chestnuts scattered on top sometimes.Fried some bacon on it. Nothing adventurous, but reading some other posts, i`m going to have a go at a bit more.
  4. I`ve had some sucess with a wood grenade type wedge and a sledge hammer.
  5. Some saws i just replace. The cheaper end clamshell designs, but the pro models are made to be rebuilt.I strip mine down and replace worn parts. Some stuff i sometimes struggle with, pressing in main bearings maybe, so i have my dealer do that, but slipping off a pot and replacing a piston and rings is quite straightforward and can transform a tired saw.I regularly did this when i had mx bikes so it holds no horrors. I wouldnt replace my 046.I`ll just keep rebuilding it where necessary.Depends if you have the time and the interest.
  6. I always smear some grease around the base of the filter. It does help.

    064 woes

Ordered.Fingers crossed it sorts it.Cheers spud and eddy.
  8. The cat on your saw is a coiled object on the outer casing.I can see it getting gunked up with oil and deposits then catching light from sparks when its hot.Easy thing is to get a replacement without the cat.13 quid on ebay and it will run better without it.
  9. Got stung chipping some willow a while back.Hand came up like micky mouses glove.Cut down a big dead oak in some grounds by a lake and they were everywhere.Think they must like the scent of cut wood.No nest in the tree but they were all over it.No other issues this year and they should be dead soon.
  10. I`ve got a facebook page, and at first it generated a fair bit of work.I`ve got 100+ likes but as has been said, if you want to keep on promoting it theres a charge.I see other adverts now on my wall promoting other things with a little banner underneath would you like this.Click on it and theres a charge.
  11. I went through that.Buying kit for jobs but finding it sat about in the garage.Arbwork is mega slow at the moment tbh.I`ve been building sheds, felting roofs, brushcutting, using the truck to transport things for people etc. I chased up a few jobs recently that i know i`ve got but`Yeah, leave till after crimbo now`is the normal reply. I`m doing anything i can for a few sovreigns at the moment. The game season has been a help, but not a great deal in it.Loading is sixty quid plus tip if you`re lucky and some beating.I have picked up some tree work through contacts on game shoots, who can be quite diverse in their work, so its not all bad.Networking is the key.

    Stilts

When i was in the building trade and plasterers were on site, a few of them used stilts to do ceilings.A lot easier than building up the floor with milk crates and board. They rattled through it. They did say it was a long way to fall if it did go wrong and you were likely to break a collar bone or wrist.

    ripping chain

Anyone got any experience of these? On the face of it they can be homeground.I`ve got a badly rocked 3/8 to fit a 28"bar.If i were to grind it to usefull spec there wouldnt be much life left in it.But to grind it into a ripping chain would perhaps be more usefull. 14. 046, if i`m going to take anything it will be this.Plus 18,25,28" bars.Covers everything i might encounter on the ground. The fact that i`ve got three bars and two loops of chain for each when i have only one bar for each of my other saws says it all really.
  15. Bulldog for spades and forks, i`ve got a fiskars lopper. Shovels, a long handled arrowhead is a great tool.Shorter ones, i`d get a builders shovel.Metal right through and robust.Cant think of brands fer these offhand as they`re at the yard, but the long handle arrowhead saves yer back if you need to shift a lot of material.

    """spud""

Spuds a sound bloke, you post a problem, he chimes in with an answer or will get one.Doesnt have to, but puts himself out. If i ever run into him, i`ll buy him a pint or several.
  17. Yeah it was, with that baldy geezer Dom Littlewood? All this stuff is linked to organised crime and i wouldnt buy on principle. The stuffs poor quality anyway so why would you want it.I`ve seen a few people with them.Domestic firewooders.`I`ve got one of them stihls`. No you havent, you`ve been mugged. Some of them have paid 4-500 quid for something trhat probably cost less than twenty quid to build. Needs stamping on.
  18. This is going to be pretty hard on the saw surely. All that crap flung behind the clutch cover.I dig my roots out with a mattock and felling axe.

    064 woes

Theres no winding behind the flywheel, but i thought these were for heated handles.Hopefully i can get a part number off spud to match the flywheel which has the lower number you`ve given.Cheers.

    064 woes

Yeah, the newer coil will make it a more useable saw spud. Thanks for looking its a great help.

    064 woes

Well, both flywheels have part number 1122 400 1204.However, the newer unit has an additional part number 1122 400 1203, and has a 2 next to it and an upside down cup.The first number has 1 and the cup. I`m presuming these must be for the two keyways and indicate different coils.

    064 woes

Cheers spud, i`ll have a look for the flywheel numbers tomorrow, but the coil has no markings on it at all.

    064 woes

It pulls over fine with those variables Alec.I even tried using the coil for my 046 which should be compatible.Ht lead was too short. The saw has made in west Germany on the side, which must mean its an 80`s saw.The coils on ebay are mostly after 1990.Need to be sure i`m ordering a compatible coil, but the one i have has no id marks.

    064 woes

Thats both flywheels and both slots on the newer one tried with no difference whatsoever. Thinking it must be a bad coil.Everything else i`ve been right over.
  25. If yer game it is doable.I rebuilt an 026 a few years ago.Get the ally transfer off the cylinder with acid.New aftermarket piston and rings and it should be a goodun.Address the problem that caused it in the firstplace which might be an airleak.New crankcase seals. Might have just been neat fuel though.Bit more likely.Pick some other parts up off ebay and you`ll have a good saw. Sometimes its just fun to have a winter project.
