  1. i've got a Camon with a Honda engine I'm selling if you're interested. PM me your phone no if you like & we can have a chat.
  2. Hello mate, Pop over & introduce yourself on http://www.hpoc.co.uk Hilux Pickup Owners Club. You may well get some interest there. All the best.
  3. My steed "Pegasus"
  4. Oh no, no, no, I'll advertise it the night before or in the morning while we're on the job. 1st person who can collect while i'm still there gets the Wood. I normally get 5-10 replies & save numbers for future loads. If I have to handle the wood, meaning load it & drop it off somewhere then it most certainly ain't free. The idea is it saves me some work so I pass that good karma on to to someone else. I also only give it away if I haven't got space down the yard or the wood ain't Ash or Oak or Beech or something worth keeping.
  5. It can get as cold as it likes. I got a smokeless zone defra approved woodburner now with a stack of logs split & ready. Got my shorts ready for winter too!!
  6. Setup on your own mate. £45 a day is taking the piss.
  7. I know there's a few of us who do this to save taking wood away from a job when it suits us. I've started saying it costs a bottle of Wine now. Or whatever drink you like. No ones got a problem with it & everyone still gets a hell of a deal! 5 bottles of Red so far. Long may it continue
  8. Hi all, Free tip for clean woodchip & the odd few Logs but not enough room for loads of logs. Yards been going for a few years now & 3 or 4 of us tip there regularly. Feel free to pm me for more details.
  9. I'd say I probably prefer a straight blade. At the end if the Day as long as its nice & Sharp it doesn't really make much odds.
  10. So I'm not the only one still using a BG75 Except mine still works ok
  11. Good on you for trying something new mate. Funnily enough I may have to price up a forestry job myself soon & I've got a similar background to you. Lots of good open advice there, the safe bet would be to go on a Day rate but if you over price it you won't get the job. Then again better not to do a job than loose money on it.... Good luck, reading this with interest.
  12. The company I got it from spoke to Oregon who said it's a new additive to the oil which makes it darker & sweeter smelling. He didn't have much detail of what it's for but apparently it's perfectly normal & has no shelf life issues. The Bio Oil they said can have a shelf life of 4-6 months once opened if it's subjected to low temperatures of -10 to -20 Celcius.
  13. I did wonder if a batch of Bio got put in the wrong tubs. What's the shelf life on Bio?
  14. How long do you nneed the chipper for? I may know someone local who has one.
  15. Probably not relevant as you need a tracked chipper but I have a free chip tip site 5-10k min from East Kilbride if you need it.
  16. Hi all, Got a 25 litre tub of chain oil the other day (standard not Bio) & it's unusually dark in colour (dark brown) & smells slightly sweet & musky. Anyone else had this before? I've only ever had it looking & smelling like normal oil... A dodgy batch or is it fine? I spoke to the company who are going to check & get back to me.
  17. Vertical cause that's what I've got. Make a decent size table then you can have a good amount of logs queuing up to get split saving on the machine running while you get another log on. Also as mentioned, you just spin & shift the Logs around when splitting
  18. Just give it a good service, change all the filters & oil & keep a spare drive belt too. Give all the bearings (including the wheels) a good grease up too & you should be good to go! I wouldn't spend any big money on it till you get to know what state it's in though. Good luck!
  19. BBC1 If you miss it catch it on player. Hopefully not someone on here...
  20. guys, there's plenty of trees out there for everyone to work & make a living. i like working for myself cause i still enjoy the thought of going out & doing tree work, hedge cutting, grass cutting, fencing or whatever i need to. life's too short to wind yourself up & pull your hair out over work. make friends & have allies in the industry not enemies, be they private, corporate or council.
  21. free fire wood must collect in South, Glasgow | Stuff for Free | Gumtree.com Someone please tell me i'm not cracking up...
  22. Taupotreeman, naturally anything that helps save a life or injury is a good thing. My point is, if he wants to produce a shock video to warn of the dangers of something happening, let him provide all the bits that are going to feature in that video instead of expecting you to do it with your gear. Thats whats daft to me.
  23. i presume the h&s guy is providing a rope & chipper & goat for the purposes of his daft idea? the weakest link (apart from a groundsman unaware enough to feed a rope thru a chipper in the 1st place) will obviously be the climber or the anchor point depending how high up in a tree he is. The rope's going to be rated at 2-3 tons (unlike the climber) & unless the chipper blades have just been sharpened & cut the rope, the chippers going to end up in a mess... i agree with rob & also keep a short rope for smaller trees. i say put the h&s guy on the end of the rope & bbq the goat!
  24. seems cheap! is that new or 2nd hand?
  25. NFU wanted £830 from me this year (up from £600) for my single cab Hilux. I have 8 years No Claims too. I switched to Adrian Flux who charged me £530. One thing worth pointing out is that Adrian Flux don't cover tippers.
