  2. A bit of all sorts possibly ?? Birch, Ash, Hawthorn, Elm???. If dry it'll burn.
  3. A tiny bit of DNA on saw maybe? If you read the article, he was until recently the landowner/tenant (?). Lost legal dispute with religious group owners. Did he have an axe to grind? 🤔. As someone suggested previously on here....

  5. I think they meant- whoever chopped the fu€ker down, will also make an effort to prevent it surviving. I think if fenced off and not attacked by humans, it would grow back successfully.
  6. It was lonely so he put it out of it's misery...
  7. A stupid reckless thing to do- however it was a significant tree/landmark because the uplands of Northern England are overgrazed and largely barren regarding tree cover. That's the real tragedy. If it was the 16 yr old he was pretty proficient and probably just wanting to further hone his skills. More likely someone else or motive involved.
  8. It does indeed- a number of years ago I saw a few wiped out by extreme cold. However they made a full recovery from the ground..
  9. I used to watch his channel quite a bit. Learnt a few new techniques - nothing like you will be taught in UK, and good to see a different way of doing things. His PPE is often lacking- seen him wielding a saw with his crocs on. His videos were a bit too long to watch for me and I haven't watch for ages. It did appear a bit like a cult like following and method of delivery. I think definitely a money making venture the YouTube for him- which is fair enough.
  10. Old thread here- anyone know if NFU still have height restriction? Just curious as a local firm I passed a big tree over to, said he was insured with them. I didn't want to start quizzing him as he wasn't subbing for me..
  11. Perhaps I trusted them too much- done plenty of work for them before. They accepted my quote for the tree- I was just trying to get them best price for stump- no contact details passed on- just WhatsApp to the stump co.s. I wasn't sub contracting it out- just passing it on. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of them that did the job though. Next time I won't be so helpful..They were a bit too fussy/impatient about the whole thing..
  12. Yes arb equipment is expensive - mainly chippers, but garden machinery is expensive. My plumber often states how he has high business costs and equipment. He says how gardeners' wages have increased relative to plumbers. However the costs of running a gardening business I suspect are greater than a plumbers, and charges probably half as much. It's all largely dictated by market forces. Also gardening is repeat work whereas plumbing is more one off stuff. Back to arb- where I am between Leeds/York there are loads of firms. Recently I was booked in to remove a Beech. Customer wanted stump grinding as well. I got them 3 quotes. A few weeks later got a message to say another firm was doing the job- including grinding. Moral of this- let the potential customer find their own stump grinder. Don't go out of your way to help them.
  13. I have some in a nursery bed, similar leaves. I put it down to wet weather then hot sun. I doubt it will finish the tree off - pour some salt solution on it, or ask them politely to move it..🙄
  14. Google Image Result for https://static.wikia.nocookie.net/ettheextraterrestrial/images/6/6f/Thumb-ET.jpg/revision/latest/zoom-crop/width/500/height/500?cb=20220814150338 IMAGES.APP.GOO.GL
  15. Maybe just all the rain followed by hot weather..
  16. JSP one that you can get at Screwfix and prob Toolstation
  17. I think you should be able to do the larger tree one without retaking basic felling and maintenance again- I did something similar. Early 1990 s as above I think, then climbing and saw in tree around 2009?? , Then larger trees a few years ago..
  18. There are HETAS I think and building regulations (gov UK??) Online. It states height above roofline ,etc. That long 45 degree stretch looks a bit unconventional but not sure..
  19. I just googled it- to bring oversupply of electricity from Scotland!! Better than pylons maybe..
  20. Small scale woodburning has existed since man struck a flint and sparked a fire. What hasn't existed for millennia is Drax power station burning pellets from North America produced from clearfelling- subsidised by the government. A BBC documentary showed this. It's a con. However I'm glad to see the back of coal burning. I live a few miles from Drax, and since coal burning stopped locally, we now have many more lichens, etc. growing on trees. It really is a nasty fuel- save it for steam trains.
  21. Introducing The Logger Frame Backpack Carrying System Read more... 1 591 July 17 I wonder what the price will be£? Just googled- available in Japan. 30,800 yen, about £165??
  22. I can dowse with wire but as for the forked Hazel...🤔
  23. Ghosts Big cats Ufo s Yetis Qanon, etc- whatever it is... Loch Ness monster
