  5. How about being a junior doctor - £14/hour is it( or £17), either way, pretty sh!t.
  6. It is all market forces- probably oversupply of labour. Tree work attracts workers that like outdoor work, etc. For self employed it has an element of freedom, which many prefer to working in a factory or brewery. Brickies get more due to companies making profits for building houses. The supply of bricklayers is probably short. The end result of a pruned or felled tree,(amenity tree) does not usually give the customer an asset they can sell- you are not creating a saleable asset like a new house. Oversupply of workers is probably main reason for lower wages- there are countless travelling 'arborists' that knock on doors and keep prices down in the lower end domestic market.
  7. I think a ten year annual grant for looking after it- not Megabucks. But the initial grant covers 100%costs- I think. Don't have to give public access but poss more ££ if you do- personally I would not. One hectare minimum for Ewco grant but other organisations assist with smaller areas/grants. Also countryside stewardship funding for some schemes but money doesn't cover costs on some projects.. In Yorkshire woodland prob same price as grassland now. 10-15 years ago alot less. Cheapest land is marginal upland but they don't fund planting on peat soils- although I read Scottish FC might allow downy birch etc..
  8. Maybe buy agricultural land and plant it yourself- grants are much better these days. See gov UK/forestry commission, etc. A few years ago woodland was very cheap, but thanks to the companies mentioned (plus demand) the prices have rocketed. I suppose they've brought it into a marketplace which is more appealing to some. I nearly bought some myself off them, but fortunately got some fenland instead.

  15. What about a grab type thing, like those machines where you put a Euro in and get nothing in return..🤔
  16. I always thought it was a poor feature - same as with shackles. Why have such a potential 'weak link' on what is basically the most crucial part of a harness. Movement of bridges over time possibly loosening the bolts/threaded components. Loctite or not- it's lazy design. Compare with Skylotec harnesses- eliminated these weak spots. A pity that good old Willans have not kept up to date with modern designs- can't find a sturdier made harness- just not very functional by today's comparisons.
  17. I wouldn't use any gear with a shackle, Loctite or not...

  19. Industrial applications of poplar wood - Propopulus PROPOPULUS.EU ProPopulus Team In recent years, the growing demand of wood and wood-based products has stimulated an increasing interest in poplar cultivation due, among other reasons, to its fast-growing... Surprised that Poplar is not been exploited in England - packaging for food, disposable forks/spoons, etc. You see it in chip shops and on posh food packaging, but whether this is grown and manufactured i mainland Europe. I think the market will take off in the next decade. The best answer to replacing plastic packaging, etc. Lightweight, non-toxic... It's a traditional use. We're a bit slow in the UK...

  23. I was once questioned in the back of a police car- they had blocked the road- unbeknown to me, a local elderly lady had been found dead in her house. I seem to remember I'd seen the ambulance near her house. Anyway, on first stopping my van, one of the coppers took great interest in my step ladders. I'm a gardener I told him. This didn't seem a viable explanation to him. I think he'd played too much Cluedo as a child...On finding out it was an incident to do with the lady, I made the mistake of asking if she was ok and that she was a customer of mine. Sherlock Holmes then thought he was in line for promotion to Detective Inspector, whereby I was taken to the car. He then asked me some stupid questions - fortunately it came through on the radio that it was a non suspicious death. It's good that some are keen to catch criminals, but that unfortunately some are t!t heads and have a clever a$$ attitude.

  25. it all depends on your budget and how much you think it's worth from a business point of view. No way would I fork out for the high speed stuff but possibly a couple of 4ah standard batteries and hedge cutter with backpack for batteries. Use in conjunction with my Makita gear which likes malfunctioning quite often - 3 Yr warranty is only thing that makes them reasonable option. However looks like the Kress is 3 year as well.
