  1. Can blocked oil breather cause oil to stop being pumped? Think its the problem on my saw. Works for while then stops- poss air lock. Any ideas for how to replace? Thanks I picked outer piece off...
  2. Good research there. That's why it could be S.caprea, or a hybrid of. Even if it looks most like S.caprea, it may not be 100%. If you grow willow seeds that are in a mixed species area; see what grows from a batch off one tree. That will give insight into how complex i.d is, and how it can be guesswork. I used to collect willows..BSBI handbook of willows and poplars by Meikle prob best guide if need i.d.
  3. Carpal tunnel can be numbness in thumb and finger next to it mainly. If its little finger and one next to it then maybe trapped nerve- poss from sleeping on arm, or with arm folded. The carpal tunnel can improve but worsens depending on the machine. Stihl long reach pretty poor on vibe levels. Husky is better, but have had Husky older models better suited for sale in sex shops.
  4. With some willows, looks can be deceptive. I have cultivated a hybrid that looks similar to a White willow (mainly leaves similar), but the male parent is a Crack willow and mother is a hybrid sallow. ?
  5. Its either a Goat Willow-Salix caprea; or a hybrid of. Goat willows are a Sallow. Other Sallows include Grey willow which has 2 known sub species. Most willows, especially Sallows can be found as hybrids that may have characteristics of both parents...
  6. As kids we used to wear old potato sacks. Not sure if there are many left these days.
  7. Potential hazard are dead Elms so I'd take photos then commence work.
  8. Checked on HSE website and 1969 Employment Liability law/act states insurance co. cannot refuse to pay out just because records they request are not provided; sounds like it's not a get out clause?
  9. Just been reading small print on liability insurance. States (my interpretation) that if waste not taken to registered sites then policy may not be valid. That's not the exact wording but seems like a get out clause, where if you have no tip records because you leave chip on your own land etc. then insurance co. will not pay out in eventuality of ANY liability claims on your policy. Read on gov. Uk that exemptions to use chippings for mulch can be applied for, etc- thereby they are not 'waste' . But if they won't grant it then shot yourself in foot.
  10. I use bio chain oil from Clark Forest. Mainly rapeseed. If saw is left for weeks/months the chain tends to sieze so takes a bit of loosening. Ethanol is great for getting them unstuck.
  11. Apparently, much of Venice is built on Alder piles, so it must be good..!
  12. The traditional wood to use is Elm. Probably impossible to source for obvious reason. Drainage boards used planks/boards. Not sure what stakes they used. Also Elm was used for coffins
  13. I'll do a report myself as my mate will prob be busy. If it gets turned down i'll appeal with his help. Thanks for info though.
  14. I am having to provide further info on a 2-3 metre crown reduction on a large ash that's imposing on a garden. Local council says I have to give a specific report and state my qualifications. I am qualified tree surgeon with 38/39. Any ideas on what I can state- telling them it is a bit big for its situation may not be enough..! It really has an large limb which I would remove but consultant mate said it would be too much of a wound to remove. Therefore just applying for the reduction. Ideas of general wording for report would be helpful.. thanks
  15. thanks for replies. i always slacken nuts off first. i will try with different shorter bar to see if same occurs. !!
  16. i have an old husky 365. i keep replacing the chain tensioning bolts/screw, as they keep bending. i am having problems tensioning the chain- goes slack then tight and i think i must be overtightening to compensate. the clutch drum has a bit of play. i replaced sprocket not too long ago. think may be roller bearings need replacing? any ideas before i dismantle it? thanks

  19. t540 xp at CORWEN FORESTRY, just over £500
  20. i recently saw an avenue of mature elm trees in bridlington. i think they were jersey/guernsey elms. i wonder if its something to do with the seaside/salt air and the elm bark beetles. seems a bit of a coincidence. apparently some in scarborough as well....
  21. just wondered if anyone knows if under 18's are allowed to use strimmers/mowers and if employers liability is available for them.(if so £?) regarding a work experience placement.thanks
  22. they are really light and comfortable- great for warm weather:thumbup1:, but i think the outer layer is reinforced andrex- tear real easy when snagged i have found:thumbdown:
