  1. Go see them face to face be harder for them to say no!!
  2. The other day while working on a lime the following happened. Some random guy tapped me on shoulder and said Rg : excuse me I've got a holly in my garden would you like to buy it? Me : you what?? Rg : I've got this holly and seeing as its Xmas you be able to cut it down and sell it, so would you like to buy it? Me : are you joking mate? Why don't you sell it? Rg : I wouldn't know how to make wreaths or what to do with it! Me : well neither do I, any holly I cut down is going through that chipper behind you!! Rg : oh right well could you come n have a look and give me a price only take you 10 mins n I'll pay cash!! Me : now you're talking!! Made me n lads laugh all day it did!! Some people are on another planet!!
  3. I've been asked to leave land a couple of times and had police called on me once!! Just go for it mate! You won't go to jail for it! I generally ask the landowners permission if it's local! One guy I knew had a huge beautiful oak that I wanted to climb so I rang him to ask said I'd even deadwood it for free and he flatly refused, I'd even done the guy previously a huge amount of tree work at an excellent price!! Some people can be really funny about their trees!!
  4. This guy rocks too!! Danny MacAskill - "Way Back Home" - YouTube
  5. Think this guy beats him!! Jeb Corliss' A Year in the Life - YouTube
  6. Deer man is indeed spot on! However I think the real issue is training, I recently one of those first at work courses cos my 14 yrs in army counts for nothing in civvi street! Out of 24 of company employees I was the only one who had a clue! Not a sinle person knew CPR or even basic first aid procedures prior to the course! This stuff should be taught from an early age and be put into the school curriculum. The following week I was first on scene when a child was run over by a bus not a sinle person could offer any real help I had to control the incident and attend casualty at same time! Even when police arrived they weren't much better! Thank god for my army training n experience is all I can say!!
  7. Getting the mrs to understand that I can't always finish on time and that I can't always immediately reply to her txts!

  11. Bloody me today with my Silky. swung out to the tips on a pine to remove some deadwood, didnt bother with strop saw slipped deep gash to finger n 2hours in A&E no lasting damage but could have been alot worse.oh n a bruised arse where i slammed into the trunk after i let go of branch.. own stupid fault all for sake of couple of seconds to strop in and get better work position.
  12. u talking about Jarno treegeek?? i reckon u used to work for banyards judging by ur t shirt in ur avatar
  13. On my private jobs all the guys get the same be it climber or groundie. there is no difference in my opinion they both graft like mad and its a team effort no room for individuals!!! last job £180 each and finished for 1pm, usually £150!!!
  14. Dont store it! use ur saws alternatively. IMO machinery is better when used regularly. Our 880 very rarely gets used but it gets fired up n run up weekly or even just used instead of a smaller saw just to keep it running right.
  15. I just cant get on with waterproofs when climbing. so i just wear either an under armour longsleeve vest or the nike one that rooney wears. You get wet but stay warm without getting caught up or feeling sweaty n restricted all day! Plus waterproofs are for girls!!! lol
  16. Hi Matt After 14 yrs in the Army i pursued a career in Arb, i did all my training with Kingswood, which was fantastic. Am now employed at one of the biggest companies in Dorset and run my own small business too. The work is fantastic and i love it. wish id done it years ago, being a soldier can put you head and shoulders above the competition mate, i.e work ethic fitness etc. There are jobs out there you gotta find them and convince them to give you them. But be under no illusion mate this is a hard industry and the work can be relentless at times and the pay aint great either unless you work for yourself. Cheers Dave
  17. Yeah no probs mate anytime! Don't fret about ur assessment it's an absolute doddle! You planning to stay in Dorset? If so I may be able to sort some work/experience for u! My mobile is 07742 357983. Good luck n say hi to Richard n Andy from me!
