  1. He'll be 19 this summer so plenty of developing still to come. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  2. This is my nephew scoring a cracking try for the Northampton Saints youth team. He got a try on his England U-20 debut at the weekend and was made Man of the Match too. You saw him here first folks :-) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  3. It's about five miles from me (close enough that we occasionally go to the chippy in Henley anyway). I've got no own source of wood and have been lucky in the last few years that I've got hold of wood in exchange for labour, but do have space to store and season some wood. Tempted to get a couple in and relax for the summer instead of worrying where the wood might come from! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  4. If you're prepared to go up in a picker in this wind, I reckon you'll be earning your brass! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  5. Shame you lost 'em, you could have caught the oil leaks with them! (Sorry, couldn't help it!) Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  6. I'd gladly burn it all day long once seasoned but found it took a couple of years to be really ready for burning - that was summer felled and stacked outdoors though. Like everyone else says - split it when green. I did 2 x 50 foot, 14 inch DBH trees into logs with a cheap Chinese maul and it took my back a long time to forgive me! Or maybe it was trying to split the stump of the second one by hand so I could put my new shed in that finished it off... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. Not sure about VW but didn't M-B have a load of recalls and claims about 10 years or so ago on their cars owing to tinworm that made Lancias look solidly engineered by comparison? I think it was when they switched to a lower solvent / solvent free painting technique... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Sounds like they've got too comfortable with the arrangements, as Steve says could be a good time for both of you to get out there and explore what other customers and suppliers there are! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Pardon my French, but f@&k me! I just looked at what that price works out at in GBP and nearly fell over. The starting bid is about £3700... I know that doesn't mean someone would pay it but must be some kind of indication of the market price? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. I keep looking out for a second hand garden centre trolley, the ones with the single axle and cage about the load bed. My idea was to raise the sides a bit and use that for transporting wood. That one posted earlier on for shifting brash looks like it would double up as a good sawing house, dependent on the spacing of the verticals. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. Looking at the size if the hole compared to the person standing near it, it's going to take a hell of a lot of filling! http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-derbyshire-25554549 P.s it's nothing to do with me really, I just thought it was interesting... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  12. We grew up with a LHD one which my father sold on when tinworm got the better of it. It was no speed machine and had a considerable thirst when driven at anything like motorway speed. But in those pre-seatbelt law days, the parents would get up at about 3am, put us kids (still in pyjamas) into bed in the back and drive from north Staffordshire down to Dover to catch a ferry. We went around much of Northern Europe in it and I guess five hours of the kids being asleep in the back rather than perpetually asking if we were nearly there yet must have been a bonus. 13. My grandparents were all farmers so reserved occupation, my grandad on my father's side was in the Royal Observer Core spotting German bombers flying up over the edge of the Peak District to bomb Manchester and Liverpool. The post he was based at was about 200m up the road from the farm where my father grew up and is still fairly intact today, thanks to volunteers and the fact it was kept in service until 1991 as a Cold War post. It was marked on maps as a reservoir when I was a kid and I remember vividly during the mid-80s our school teachers insisting that's what it was, even though most of the kids in the village had seen people in forces uniform attending there at some point. http://www.28dayslater.co.uk/forums/roc-posts/33203-rushton-spencer-roc-post-cheshire-group-september-08-a.html http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-highlands-islands-20070903 Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. Well, at least he tried to put a guard on it and has got the brains to use another log to feed in, rather than holding the log that is actually being split. But I think I'd still be worried about the weld on the axe head giving up the ghost and it flying off at head height... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. I'd be interested in finding out what it is, my father was looking for exactly such a thing a while back (12v chainsaw to clip onto car battery lugs). Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  16. If you want an example of what Rich means, find a house with a stack pipe that goes up through the roof... Imagine the stack pipe is your tree trunk and bob's your uncle. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  18. Put a smile on my face... Manchester United to renew pact with Satan 08-11-13 THE Red Devils are to renew their longstanding deal with Satan in a ceremony before their home game this Sunday. United will wear Hell’s logo on their away kit The club, who first began worshipping Satan in the 1930s because they couldn’t afford new kit, owe their astonishing success over the last 25 years to a pact brokered by Sir Alex Ferguson. New manager David Moyes will invite the Horned One back to the heart of the club by drawing an inverted pentacle on the Old Trafford pitch before the Arsenal match. Club ambassador Sir Bobby Charlton said: “We’ve always had strong links with Hades, culminating in the loan of senior demonic torturer Roy Keane, and it’s great to reaffirm that before a home crowd.” Ryan Giggs, who after retirement hopes to become an Archduke of Hell, said: “People put my longevity down to self-belief, extra training or opposing players’ terror of my otherworldly Welshness. “Personally I think it’s all about focus, commitment, and my pre-match ritual of bathing in the warm blood of six virgins.” Lucifer has agreed that United will progress to the European Cup final against Barcelona, during which the pitch will split open and a clawed hand will drag Lionel Messi down to a realm of eternal torment. Moyes said: “As part of the deal, our fans will spend an eternity burning in unimaginable agony in return for the Premier League titles and European Cups they enjoyed in life.” Liverpool fan Stephen Malley responded: “I’m not sure about that. It doesn’t sound harsh enough to me.” Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  25. My FIL has asked me to look around for a Transporter for him, as he's treating himself to a camper as a retirement present but wants to do a bespoke conversion rather than buy one off the shelf. Only thing is, looking at prices it seems like he could get a 2.2 Sprinter for similar money as a 102bhp Transporter. More space for the money, certainly. I've driven Sprinters and VW vans a long while ago but wondered if anyone had more recent / long term experience to offer? Whatever he picks will be German so I think these are the only two options, no Transits etc. it won't be used for towing or any heavy work, really just needs to be reliable, fairly sensible on fuel and capable of cruising at motorway speeds for hours at a time. Any thoughts appreciated! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
