  1. Its not going to take long to read and remember 8 pages though is it. If it really is all rubbish, spend an hour remembering it word for word before your assessment, then forget it all again when you pass.
  2. What about them?
  3. IMO you are going well over the top worrying about what you need for these courses. Just take what they tell you to in the info. Apart from that, clothes you usually wear for work will be cool. First day will be filing a saw all day and taking it apart and putting it back together, not much more than that. All you then have to do is cross cut a couple of logs, knock over and sned a couple of very small trees and your done. Chill mate. It wont be the ordeal you are expecting. I personally dont know a single person who has failed any NPTC ticket.
  4. The problem with paving is its all in the preparation. The cheap bloke might look like he's good, but the customer may change his opinion next year when the paving moves and he was weeds growing out of the mortar joints.
  5. Agree with you about the adwords mate, maybe its better perceived in Denmark. In this country people tend to ignore stuff like sponsored links and go straight to the organics. Then with adwords you have the added problem of sneaky competitors clicking your link to either increase your spend or, use up your allowed spend so you dont show on the listings.
  6. There has been quite a lot of chat on here about the amount of people setting up firewood businesses recently. Think you are right about them not realising quite how hard it is to make a decent profit.
  7. Sounds sensible to me too mate:thumbup1:
  8. You used to be as skinny as me Mick:lol:
  9. We've had enough of these threads guys. From now on, lets not have any more. Look out for yourselves and your mates. Deepest sympathy to everyone who knew the bloke concerned.
  10. Or he's got the strangest friction cord i've ever seen.
  11. I've employed people on six month trials before now. there are loads of ways for employers to see if you are any good before they commit themselves.
  12. What kind of girl has ever been impressed with a landy?
  13. Someones got balls, posting pics in their first ever post. Good job mate:thumbup1:
  14. I think the info we had before was warning that there was an issue that they were investigating, and they shouldn't be used cos may be dangerous. I think the info Yorkshireman posted today is HSE saying, we have investigated and they are too dangerous, dont use them.
  15. Completely see what you are saying mate. Suppose at the end of the day it doesn't matter when they ask about money, as long as they graft and deserve what they expect to get. Pay people an honest days money for an honest days work, who could argue with that.
  16. It is very interesting that you are having such results with this. I agree it can work, but many people do a poor job of it and get very poor results. I have found the quality of leads with organic listing to be far superior to adwords.
  17. Straight to the point as usual Mick. To be honest I think its a difficult one. Nobody wants to ask 'how much will I be paid' but at the end of the day thats the only reason most of us work, so its a pretty important point. I see what you mean Mick, but you have got your style (grumpy old sod) for hiring people, and others do it differently. Its pretty hard for a bloke looking for work, to not annoy someone on here, whichever way he plays it.
  18. Welcome Paul. you finding you've noticed more competition in the last couple of years?
  19. Its the same thing, just further info.
  20. I can just imagine it. 'Excuse me lads, can you just get out the way while I take a picture, Its for my Crap dry stone wall thread'.
  21. You made the effort to ask before you did it, thats more than a lot would do. Anyway, if they do get told to take it down you can charge them for that as well:thumbup1: I've done a couple of jobs like that before, but at the speed I lay bricks 20 quid an hour would work out about a fiver a brick:blushing:
  22. £180 for the year and always busy.

Fred wasn't the kind of bloke to worry about getting muddy hands. Whenever I saw him on telly he had more oil on his hat than i've got in my car.
  24. Good info mate:thumbup1:

Its one thing climbing that ladder, I have the most respect for the bloke who put the ladders there in the first place. Although that was probably him as well.
