Thats just me, if i'm giving advice it will be the best advice I can give. Dont do anything half heartedly mate, i'm sure you understand that. I am nothing but honest, I felt I was treated unfairly so said so. I have given many hours of advice to you and others and I never ask for anything in return. I see. So when i'm giving free information all is well, but when I ask for a bit of information about your site for my interest suddenly it is a derail? Even if my interest may lead to me finding a solution to what I believe are the faults with Tony's site. This seems a tad ungracious of you, and not really in the spirit of Arbtalk if you dont mind me saying.

I'm not intending to give criticism. Just useful information. I know you aren't trying to use the site commercially, but surely with the time and effort you are putting in, it would be nice to think that the maximum number of interested parties could benefit from it. Purely for my professional knowledge now, do you have back end access to that site so you could allow a designer to alter the CSS or HTML if you so wished?

Monkeyd I can see the attraction of such a site, but for the cost of it he could be using a much better application. Its as simple of that really. I did advise him what I thought he should use and he obviously went for your recommendation instead. The slideshow feature you are using on yours is very effective but it is to the detriment of the picture quality. I have just looked at identical pictures both on here and on your site and on here the quality looks better. Although to be fair I do use an exceptionally high quality monitor on this computer as I use this one for checking sites are Pixel perfect. I suppose as I do critique sites by the pixel, I may be slightly too unbiased to give a 'laymans' type opinion. Look at the pics on both sites and see what you think. The information I was giving to Tony regarding SEO is equally valid on your site too. It really is a fundamental flaw, IMO. Giving you space to stick a few key words in, really doesn't cut it in todays SEO battle for traffic. I hope you find my comments useful, it is how they are intended.

Cant remember where it was, but somewhere in Hampshire or Wiltshire they actually dug an underpass under the road, so the little critters could cross safely. They then used that fencing to funnel all the little beasties to the right place. By all accounts it wasn't as user friendly as first though as the local foxes thought that a restaurant had been opened for them and just sat and waited for the next delivery to be funnelled their way.

I would assume when the outside material is a lot better at dissipating heat than the inner. Or maybe when the inner is a lot more susceptable to heat damage than the outer.

Or when a nut/ bolt etc finds its way to falling off a machine in someones garden. Could save ages of grass searching on hands and knees.

Its a standard HTML page with Javascript. Maybe run your updates. Apart from that its a fairly bog standard site. As a standard text page, if you have problems, we could e-mail you the contents.

That site is basically an image that you modify. All the text etc that you add is basically laid over the image. Actually its a bit like a video, or flash media to be more precise. Search engines aren't good at seeing or understanding images, thats why its SO important to tag all images properly. You will notice when you right click on your site you dont even get the view page source option. Here's the sneaky bit. If you right click on their bits of your site such as the advertising, the source is available. This allows them to gain maximum benefit from the search engines whilst allowing you hardly any. There is usually a detrimental effect of going for much cheapness. Unless you listen to me:001_tt2:

In short, the search engines cant read your site. If they cant read it, they cant rank it, if they cant rank it, no-one will see it. Obviously there is a lot more to it than that, but its bed time.

I'd leave it mate. This type of subject has been done to death on here and never gets anywhere. Everyone argues for a bit then it gets deleted.

That one has a quarter of the storage of the blog and will always give you an inferior site. Storage is very important on a site with lots of pics. To see what I mean about the site, right click with your mouse on this site, click on view page source and scroll down the whole page. What you are seeing is the code that makes this site work, and also makes it super findable and rankable by the search engines. Now go to your site and do the same. Click somewhere in the centre on the bit that isn't adverts or other rubbish.

Gareth. Good post mate. I'm no computer expert either, but I know exactly what the computer experts I employ, should be doing for maximum effect. Arrogant probably, a marketing genius, definately. Seriously though, what I do is ensure my clients make the maximum amount of money out of their business. Its as simple as that. One of these ways is to ensure the websites they use are effective and fit for the purpose.
