  1. This is all very true. However, in my experience they do have a habit of stretching the truth, and promising the earth. Then once you have signed they cant be bothered to do anything, are slow to respond and the quality of the adverts they produce, if you are silly enough to let them design the advert, are very poor. Some of the worst adverts I have ever seen were designed by Yellow pages.
  2. It is a crazy world mate. You can see why updates are required but like you said, the whole system is set up so that newly qualified lads are seen as better prospects than seasoned pro's. With the NPTC assesments being pretty much unfailable, its no wonder we have so many people working with saws or climbing, when they shouldn't even be allowed to use a crayon. My comment was strictly true though mate, I dont do tree work any more, so wont be needing any more training.
  3. Just seen your thread, IMO the ladder in your pic is rubbish. Screwfix do some good 3 way ladders. Dont buy loads of cheap domestic tools, they will make your life harder and more dangerous. What vehicle are you going to be using? How are you going to market and advertise your hedge cutting services?
  4. To be good natured is an excellent characteristic mate. Doing extra work for nothing means you are too nice, or not confident enough in your service, to ask for extra money. Although, like 18 stoner said, even a cup of coffee you wouldn't have otherwise had, is better than nothing. Liking the pics of your bro climbing on the other thread mate. By your comments, you seem proper proud of him:thumbup1:
  5. A definition of Irony
  6. Cheeky bugger. You aren't even the first to make the comparison mate:blushing: Seriously though, I wasn't trying to be arguementative for fun, just struck me as very obvious what the bloke was trying to achieve. And it may have been easier if he had come out and said it. I think his first post should have been, 'Hi guys, I'm a Lantra instructor and am a bit concerned that everyone talks about NPTC training, when in fact you can be trained by someone such as myself and then be assessed for NPTC quals. Any thoughts or questions on this would be great guys, so I can work out how best to offer my services in the future.' Thats what I would have written. Acting dumb and trying to seem surprised at answers he got, was what got to me.
  7. Paul, someone told me it was good to be blunt.
  8. Not to worry, I've had all the training ill ever need.
  9. You are the instructor, you tell us. I thought your point was that you wanted everyone on here to realise that they can be lantra trained and still nptc assessed.
  10. why not just say you are a lantra instructor and you are starting the thread to try and sell your services. User name sort of gives it away. You can have the award for most ham fisted intro of a man trying to sell us stuff though.
  11. Yell and yellow pages have been going down hill for years. My most popular service is the 'leaving Yellow pages' service. Basically we offer a service where anyone who has advertised in the Yellow pages, can pay us the same amount as they spent in the directory last year, and we see how many times more effective what we do is, compared to Yellow pages adds. This service is becoming more and more popular. Especially now we do it over the phone and by e-mail, which means we can compete nationally. Its about time Yell got put in its place:thumbup1:
  12. I know you can print it, but you wouldn't want to. On the site the image is about 60kb, prob about 70 dpi, he would need about 300dpi if he wanted to print it at a decent res.
  13. Unless he wants to print it:001_smile:
  14. Its all about logging the hours mate. Any cpd has an amount of hours (credits) attached to it. You need to find out from whoever it is, you are wanting to be credited by. For me, its the Chartered Institute of Marketing. I even get 30 mins CPD credit just for reading their magazine ' The Marketer' so there must be other ways you can get credit. Sorry I cant be more specific, dont know much about Arb qualifications.
  15. I tend to go for smaller saws too mate. If you are using it all day, you will work a lot quicker with a light saw, so the fact a big saw cuts a bit faster is irrelevant. Some people rate Makita saws. Not used one personally, but they seem quite popular.
  16. I think he's probably kicking himself enough about taking a cheque for it now. Stupid thing to do, but we've all been stupid at one time or another. BTW, even if a cheque shows in your bank account as cleared, and the bank allow you to draw in it. It CAN still bounce. Worth thinking about for anyone who takes cheques when they sell stuff. IMO, you either turn up with a big hand full of cash, or you dont get it.
  17. I dont see a problem. The 'while you are here' question is a request for more work to be done. The response to the question should always be 'Yes, thats no problem at all, would you like me to work out the cost of that now, or are you happy for me to add it on to the invoice for the other work, that we have done today?' Obviously common sense prevails, and if they want you to literally do a quick 2 min job then I wouldn't charge either.
  18. No mate, its not a pile of rubbish. If you are on a budget it will do few jobs for you and probably be fine. It is a domestic tool though, vibes are high and tooth gap is quite small so you wont be cutting anything big with it. 18" is very very small for a hedgecutter. I try to be packing at least 30" at all times:biggrin: Being so short, it will be very limited. Anyway, its cheap as chips so why not give it a go. As far as business card are concerned, go see your local printer.
  19. Easy way to earn yourself a quid a minute i suppose.
  20. I dont know mate, the : looks a bit pointless doesn't it. Oh well, if it works it works. Looks like a good truck though. Somewhere to keep tools would be a good addition.
  21. This is no place for sensible posts that actually answer the original question mate. Whatever were you thinking?
  22. Dont think punctuation like that is allowed in web addresses mate.
  23. Damn fine advice.
  24. Seems like we are all agreed then.
