  1. I hope not, its not what you would call aesthetically pleasing, is it.
  2. If I was given a dodgy splice I would take it VERY personally. To give you a less than perfect splice, the bloke is basically telling you that he knows you will be hanging your life on it, but he doesn't really care.
  3. Paul, I know what you are saying about the expresions. George (my Rottie) is hilarious when we are out walking. Quite often little Terriers and suchlike with small dog syndrome, come running up to him barking and snarling, he just stands there with a very condecending look, as if to say 'you do realise i'm a rottweiler dont you, and I could literally bite you in half'.
  4. Exactly my point mate. I'm not having a go at anyone, thats why the example I used of a man who was qualified but knew very little was myself. As I said, when I started, I had all the quals, up to cs41 and was my own main climber employing staff to work underneath me. Luckily, i'm a sensible chap and nothing went wrong, but it could have gone very wrong.
  5. Sorry, I missed that. I opened the thread, saw an LDV, then looked at your latest post and thought wow:blushing: I completely agree, thats a bargain for a vehicle with so much earning capability. For a man who doesn't want to be flash, but just wants to make more profit, its perfect.
  6. Not sure its the kind of laptop that would work so well covered in resin and sawdust mate. There is no reason why it couldn't be made though, if it hasn't been already. As far as I can see, its not new technology, just different application:001_smile:
  7. I (with respect) disagree, partially. I think the signwriting is great. I do, however, have reservations about its commercial value. I always look at stuff like that in terms of ROI. Full wraps and detailed sign writing are very expensive, and i'm not sure if the additional expense is justified.
  8. Think the services would be a good idea mate. I think that saying you are an arb contractor to the average domestic customer goes straight over their head. Not an LDV fan myself, but looking through this thread from the first pic, I think you have worked wonders:thumbup1:
  9. Dont get too excited, its a computer simulation of a prototype:001_smile:
  10. You know the saying ' if you haven't got anything useful to say, dont say it'. ..........................................
  11. Your expectations of the quality of my joke were much to high mate. I was merely mentioning them as the name sprung to mind, as obviously the comedians name did to apbell.
  12. I know mate, in the city you wouldn't be too far behind a bloke on a proper bike. As long as you have it for practical reasons only and understand its not cool, then I forgive you:lol:
  13. I'm not saying all newbies are useless. I'm saying it is possible to easily pass NPTC quals when you are useless. This allows useless people to be qualified to perform tasks they shouldn't be allowed anywhere near. When I decided to dabble in tree work I did cs 30 31 32 38 39 41 all pretty much back to back. Before this I hadn't touched a chain saw. Within a couple of months I was 'fully qualified'. There has got to be something wrong with this, surely. By the way, as i'm exceptionally good at what I do, I dont rely on wet behind the ears start ups for work, yes I help start ups but my opinion is also very well respected by those who have been in business for years and those who have made many millions. Hope that clears it up for you.
  14. How can you carbon date something that is still alive?
  15. Just realised you are the arb aid man, that explains your knowledge and factual responses to our rather less factual ramblings. How are sales mate? Managing to persuade many arbs that their wellbeing is worth more than a couple of hundred quid?
  16. Or the Thompson twins:lol: sorry showing my age now. Anyone under 30 may have to google them to understand my joke:blushing:
  17. Please tell me thats not your scooter mate. I respect your professional opinion but riding a scooter is not something I could easily forgive:001_tt2:
  18. Dont think you missed the point mate, you just studied the link much better than me. I just clicked on it, saw a line heading down, and jumped to a conclusion. To be honest, on inspection that graph doesn't show anything, other than the shareholders were spooked by something on a particular day. You can see when the market opened, it dropped significantly, that could be for 1000 reasons.
  19. Dont think they would ever give way, but you are right, its the knuckles that are the weak link in those ladders. We had one of those, just to get into the loft, the mechanism was cheap, I bent the little catches, and you need 3 hands to use it effectively.
  20. Thanks mate. Just remember to pay attention in the marketing thread:001_tt2:
  21. Wow, Rupe has a long, long, long reach hedge cutter. You could almost sit in the truck and do the hedges with that:laugh1:
  22. Tommer, Wasn't really making an observation on their overall share price mate, much more of their overall approach, their lack of respect within this forum, the quality of their design department, the lack of leads many businesses get from Yell adverts, my general opinion of how they operate, the tactics some of their sales staff use and the huge increase in the amount of people who tell me they wont be advertising with them any more. As far as your question above is concerned, as i'm not on here to sell a service, I dont think I need to go into too much detail. What I will say is that I have never been less effective, and for that particular service we have a contract which takes into account our clients success with Yell, their expectations of us and our forecast of results. This contract is designed for peace of mind of the client and basically, if we dont achieve the results, we dont get paid. You do also need to consider though, that a decision to use us, or any other service, is a business decision of the client, and usually any such decision involves some kind of risk.
  23. Its kind of a long story mate. I set up and ran a landscaping a tree work business as a friend bet me I couldn't do a 'proper' days work. That friend died in an accident shortly after the bet, so out of respect, and wanting to also prove it to myself, I booked myself on some courses at sparsholt, and started my business. I ran the business for several years, as the main climber. I sold the business last year, to an employee. Thats when I started coming on here. I found I genuinely had a passion for tree work and find it hard to just walk away from it to be honest. I still have a garage full of saws and climbing kit:blushing: Anyway, as I think many of the regulars on here know, i'm actually a marketing consultant (you obviously haven't been paying attention in the Marketing thread). I do a lot of work for self employed and small business owners so being on here, gives me my arb fix and, helps me keep up to date with the business issues and general understanding of marketing, of the self employed and small business owners. Threads like the marketing one also give me a good opportunity to 'give something back' and give you guys lots of free advice. Told you it was a long story.
