1. Just got in after a tough night at the pub! Yep it's howling a gale. Just walked a mile and a quarter to get home. Warned Mrs Bear its going to be a windy old night!!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
 2. You'll be fine if you were to call at mine, there's a sign on the gate asking people to call a number if the dogs are out, their bark is worse than there bite!
 3. I've joined the local farm watch, we report incidents of cold calling and odd individuals lurking around in our lanes to the police. With in a few minutes all members receive a text or email with the info. As soon as we hear anything the dogs go out!
 4. but here she is running like a ragging bull!
 5. heres mine again doing her cow impression!
 6. Like Rob said, there very easy. The most difficult part I found was putting the plastic covers back on-top of the wings inside the engine compartment!
 7. Three miles west of Chepstow, not far from the old Sudbrook paper mill. I've even thought of buying a commercial conifer plantation for reversion back to hardwood, using the softwood harvested to cover the costs. I've bid on standing FC/NRW parcels but there usually to large a contract for me to handle.
 8. Where are you based?
 9. I think you might be onto something there, I'll stump up the money, but I haven't the time to sort out the cutting and extraction. Perhaps a co-op could be in the making! I've only got time to buy small standing lots but if a few cutter got together I'm sure we could do something. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
 10. I nipped up at the beginning of the week and the timber was still at stump, also found out there was going to be 10% sweet chestnut in it. I don't mind the larger stuff, I'd just ring it up and leave it for several months. Do you know who bought it, wondering if Woodgate sawmills bought it, they seem to buying everything else. I just refuse to be a busy fool!
 11. Yep, £52.50 road side.
 12. Flat out on deliveries and bags. Just filled and moved another 100 bags round to the house ready for tomorrow's rush. Will probably have sold all 100 bags by Sunday afternoon, then it's fill, fill, fill ready for the mid week and Christmas rush. The problem with selling from the house is everyone likes a chat! 13. I sent in a bid at yesterday's Hardwood auction held in Cirencester. I was bidding on 100t of FC beech in the forest of dean, which is to be felled and taken to road roadside. After calculating the cost of haulage I arrived at a fair sum of £42.50 per ton. The hammer went down on a whopping £52.50 per ton. I can only surmise that a local timber merchant bought it. 14.
Gareth, I appreciate the amount of work that goes into it. So it's 65 m3 of solid round wood, or is it 65m3 loose load in the lorry. I am interested but margins are tight when you consider I buy softwood delivered in @£35 a cube and process my self. Send a few pictures to [email protected]. Cheers. Rich

 15.

Hi buddy, Pontypridd out of my range, try Ash Smith, he's on here or look on the wood fuel Wales web site. For info I charge £90 a cube for well seasoned mixed hardwood.

Have a warm one.

 16.

Send me a picture of the split wood so I can gage the sizes, I take it the 65m3 is loose load and not the bulker measurement. VAT might bethe killer because I'm not vat registered for firewood. Always prefer cash for firewood.

 17.

Gaz, would prefer to buy timber in the round as I need to store in the field before taking to my processing yard. Give me a price for a split load, delivery to NP265UA. it might be worth looking at. You don't do softwood cord?

 18. Finally got the path open , only another two beech to do.
 19. Unfortunately not. It's along a path known locally as the "zig zag path" between two old mining villages. The path is just wide enough for the tracked chipper. The main issue is the oath is used buy the locals to get to the train station in Taffs Well. It's just a slow methodical job relying on that sixth sense we've all developed!
 20. The aftermath of this weekends wind. Three large beech down in the same location. Did the first one today, one large leaner to do tomorrow. It's total carnage.
 21. There's one running in Cardiff on Nov 8th. I could ask the guy who's running it.
 22. Just been quoted £35 a cube for mixed processor size softwood delivered into my yard near Chepstow. Looking to ditch hardwood so looking to bolster my softwood output and looking to bring in five lorry loads either eight wheeler or artic to see how it goes. Would prefer mixed SS,DF,JL and WRC. I'm a realist so I know how things have gone up in price, but is that a fair price? If anyone can offer a similar or better price feel free to pm me.
 23. Well I did about a fortnight ago but the misses threatened to leave me and pub bared me because they said I looked like a psychopath! Haveing not had a full shave for twenty years I've gone back to the beard!
 24. Luckily we missed it all, despite lying in bed waiting for the phone to go off all night. Just hanging branches and blocked brooks today. The dogs had enough and I'm off to "Monday Club".
 25. No, only clean mixed softwood. Too much hassle with PR larch as it has to be quarantined etc.the other issue in South Wales is most surplus softwood used for bio mass. It's got to the point where I'm looking to purchase my own plantation! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
