  1. I'm on the verge of ordering a Goldini Euro 45SN, with oversize flotation tyres to be used on our 70ac holding. The ground is fairly steep in places and full of wet rush on the flat. It's going to used for general estate duties fencing, tree planting, towing walking stone around (3km of dykes to rebuild!). Eventually it'll have a flail/topper on the back for some rush management. Talking to another dealer yesterday about the Pasquali Siena who mentioned the issue with mid steering machines tipping over. I've been driving small tractors for 25yrs and am well aware of the dangers of working on steep ground but limited experience on articulated machines. I've got to get the machine ordered today if I'm to take delivery next week or should I wait and look into the Siena? Any comments welcomed.
  2. Planted up a couple of acres six years ago with a very diverse mix of trees aimed at firewood for the future, a mix of fruit trees for wildlife then legacy trees for when I've gone to the dark side! I planted at only a meter apart and mixed species such as birch and hornbeam togather to make sure they compete with each other and draw up tall and straight. I imagine I'll be taking my fist couple of loads within the next few years. As these trees are removed the oaks will start to fill out. I went for species that will coppice well. I put some trees like whitebeam and service tree in for there wildlife value and planted hazel and thorn around the edges. It's full of wildlife. Weeding the trees for the first two years was important but by planting close they now suppress the grass. Rabbit and vole guards are very important likewise keeping the trees upright in the wind. Visit the Defra website you might get a grant as a landowner. I'm lucky enough to have 70ac in Scotland to and I'm getting a grant to plant about 15ac up and that covers the cost of fencing to. The other thing I did was to plant 80/120cm whips as they seem to establish quicker and the tips are out of the reach of hares!
  3. Started on the larch which I supply to the local pub simply because it's half the price of hardwood and they burn a lot! Should have the poly tunnel full by Monday!

Very impressed so far with the time master I bought last week. First cut was over some very tough mole ridden grass which had not been cut since last October, handled it well. Second cut gave a good finish. Just need to get use to its propulsion, the more you press on the tap handle the faster it goes!
  5. Couldn't fit it on my bench so used the car ramps to get it high enough to replace a split pipe, it was like pipesketti junction under there!
  6. Hope your recovering well. How long were you in for? I'm having my elbow done on May 24th but there going in via my shoulder! I got osteophytes which they need to remove and a bit of bone shaving, been told if I get first slot I'll be out in the evening. If I get the afternoon slot I'll be spending the night on a ward. First time ever in hospital, apart from 44yrs ago when I was born! Been told I'll be off for 3mths.
  7. Not the best pics, I'll did out the literature. The splitting table can be adjusted.
  8. Cleared up another tree after storm Katie, water to shallow for the boat and silt to deep to stand in. Had to winch the timber back into the wood so to avoid damaging the canal wall. Good team work with Taffupatree again, even signalling he needed a minute cause he got his saw stuck! 😝
  9. Managed to get last weeks storm damaged beech sorted with the help of "Taffupatree" who had so much energy left he even did some dead oaks for me!
  10. I got a Rytec senior hydraulic 8t I'm thinking of selling, haven't used it for a year or so. I'll get it out of the barn and take a pic of it.
  11. You looking to buy or hire?
  12. I think we will just chip and spray the brash so as not to cover the emerging bluebells etc, the cord will be stacked and the trucks left in situ to rot where the tree has stood for the last eighty years, it's s tree we used to climb for training years ago. I think it suffered as s result of power line clearance on the top banks surrounding this woodland. Unfortunately all we can get is the tracked chipper (timber wolf) and alpine tractor into the wood.
  13. Still out assessing damage from last weeks storm. This beech will have to be sorted Monday, joy of joys!
  14. It's all in Cardiff. Just off Jct32.
  15. Some of the timber is over a metre across. There used to be staff to either mill it or process it but there all gone now. Just need to get the yard cleared before next winter!
  16. My elbows! Totally knackered now, surgery soon, but I ain't letting no tree surgeon near it!
  17. I'm disposing of about 200t of timber for our local authority. It's mainly street tree timbers and consists of everything from Ash to sycamore to more exotic species like plane and acacia. There's also your typical cedar and pine in there. Comes in at mainly 12ft lengths. Not sure whether to parcel it all up, sell it in lots or simply get a company in to chip and take away for an agreed paid price per ton. Since these pictures were taken another 60t has come in from the recent storm, with about 20t of oversize cherry coming in today. Any pointers! Ps. Too big for my firewood processor hence I'm not interested!
  18. Ian, I got it because I'm awaiting surgery on my elbows so find it hard to pull these days, I mean pull starter cord. I found it so easy to use and was great in the ivy and a bonus on a nice day not to breath fumes in all day. It lasted for the whole job hard to put a time on the trigger use. I'm so impressed that I've just ordered the back handled version for coppice works. The only issue I found was I kept forgetting to check the chain oil, because your not adding fuel its easy to forget!
  19. put my new battery powered top handle through its paces! Very impressed on this little sycamore job.
  20. Hi Harps, what part of South Wales are you. I do a number of inspections but there few and far between. I've got a mate who runs an ecology company. He's very busy on the bat front especially with spring coming up. I could ask him but he's in Monmouthshire area.
  21. I might have to look at dumping the load if need be. It's about trying to self sufficient in certain things, ie no water rates or lecky bills, or at least cost neutral lecky bills! With the development of new load holding batteries combined with a back up generator I'm sure I'll have the power I need it's only a small cottage. You raise a valid point about frost!!!!!
  22. Hi John just noticed the "john from Orange"! How's tricks. I put a time lapse camera up which has captured three months of building! I'll try and get it on line!
  23. That's scheme I've been involved in! I'm responsible for all the tree management around the development and unfortunately was responsible for felling all the trees that had to go!
  24. So my plan would be to either install a penstock at the main flow in picture one or take a flow from the old mill pond (pic 2 & 3) down to a turbine house lower down the stream. As you can see the old dam would need re engineering at some considerable costs. One of my main concerns is the environmental impact on the surrounding areas as tracks would have to be laid to get the machinery on site.
  25. I was surprised to learn that there are still generators running that are 100+ years old! The more I read the more fascinating it is!
