  1. Nice work Hodge, shame there looks to be too much sawdust to blow under the bushes. Looks like you executed the job with high efficiency.
  2. Go for a Pulley saver. Im still very impressed with mine.
  3. 99% sure the fungi is Perenniporia fraxinea jimmy. Got to love it when a dead tree de limbs itself.
  4. Here you go Amazon.co.uk: air swimmers
  5. Doesn't matter really unless you have some preference to which way you like to do a change over.
  6. Maybe wearing a Petzl hat rather than a tin lid pushed them tooooo far.
  7. Are you sure your not on Axmen????
  8. The back tree is leaning towards the house and the front tree which is larger into the field. If you look at the end of the video you'll see the line we used to tie them together. It was cut and left with a large hinge and i decided with a wedge it would be fine for about 20 seconds before i felled the front one. My escape route was to my right which would take me clear of the lean on the other stem. I wasn't directly in front of the rear stem but wasn't exactly 100% in the safe to be honest but was safe enough to be safe if you know what i mean?
  9. Camera tricks......... Honest
  10. Just a very short clip. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBUbcDVssOw]Ash Double Fell - YouTube[/ame] Oh yes I'm using a new GoPro mount which raises it up and above the visor better.
  11. I did a pine reduction of the lateral limbs last weekend. The lower crown had been severely thinned by someone a few years ago and had caused some of the lower limbs to fail due to the lever arm created from the lions tailing. It was either reduce it and deadwood or remove it. I prefer to keep it if i can. No before because i wasn't sure how it was going to end up.
  12. Neither, were both making points its making this thread all the better as were covering 'All' those 'Grey Areas' that can appear. At least people will be able to read this thread and hopefully be able to approach there situation better. I have a rule of always pay your debts fast. I can't help it if a commercial contractor wants 28 days to pay me or someone wants to hold a retainer on a cutting job. I cannot say to them i pay my debts fast you pay me fast, where i live i wouldn't get the work. . I don't float my buisness with subbies money either as i have a strong value of thats not my money its for them attitude.
  13. People run their business how the choose and that's up to them. Im not saying its acceptable or wrong just it is what it is. People should ask about getting paid before saying i can do it. I took on some National trust work i asked about payments 30 day via bacs with 15% held back as a guarantee of work completion to ensure that the poisoned stumps don't regrow and if they do i must go re apply chemicals then the site is re-checked 6 weeks later then the 15% is released. Now i know a lot of people i know wouldn't take it on but its clearly stated. So when i get a cheque for 3/4 of the job i know why.
  14. Not saying that at all. If i haven't been paid within 28 days they get and 10% raise in total bill value as laid out in my terms, 14 days after that i send my final reminder recorded delivery then its off to the ombudsman then Small claims court. By hiring me they accept my terms. Ask Frosty and Testcricket01 how quickly i pay them after completing work. I've had my business debt free now for 2 years sometimes working 2 jobs to save up to buy stuff, granted im not interested in being big, just earning enough to live and have a life. I like to point out other sides in threads as its easy for everyone to go down one and on the war path. Just like to be able to give as much info and my experience in working with other companies so theres no shock when a subby works for whoever and doesn't get paid for a month.
  15. *whistles in a totally non admitting way*
  16. Im just saying that some people i deal with operate in a different way to you. I pay all my subbies on the day or as soon as i have an invoice in my had, cheque or BACS. I decided to explain that some operate in that way during financial hard times as i have been at the receiving end. All you seem to want to do is slam me down rather than understand that im merely saying that people run their business differently to you as they decide. Its too easy to push that one person runs there business like this and all the others who don't are wrong.
  17. Nope! there wasn't even enough to break the limb the climbers on:blushing:
  18. I still do.
  19. I must admit Daniel as you know some of my videos and your opinions don't see eye to eye from time to time. BUT.... i thought you did a very good job getting that down and the only thing that made me giggle was you missed part of your log mat but thats ok with me. Im all for the safe and sure method. Fine i'll say it. Good Job
  20. Can anyone post up a video (other than the promo one) so i can see how well you guys get on with it.
  21. I don't think its nonsense whatsoever. Just explaining the other side of what can and does go on. What if all your customers don't pay? You go bust and no one gets paid. You'd be foolish to take out loans to pay staff as it puts a heavier financial burden on you and your business. I haven't once said that subbies should finance your business you have assumed that's what was said and have read it wrong. I guess you haven't had to take anyone to court for failing to pay?????? 28 days is the deemed by the financial ombudsman as an 'reasonable' amount of time to pay your debts. I found this out 9 months ago when i finally completed legal proceedings with a landscape company who hired me and Frosty when he did his 1st job for me. Tesco's is a rubbish in your face example as retail goods/ consumable goods (inc petrol) come under different legislation. Just making the point that as a subby you ARE a Business and to believe that you are immune from being effected by others cash flow is silly but you still have the same invoice/pay date problems that other larger companies have. Just my pennies worth from what i have seen/ been on the receiving end of. Now i have no problem with a new business paying me late/ half after work completed then half after they are paid. We all have to start somewhere and why should they not take on work and pass up money whilst starting a business. Yes they shouldn't take on massive sites which may have a months work then another month before getting paid but larger jobs i.e a few days work they shouldn't be expected to pass off to other companies???? Surely they would all be out of business quickly. Or am i missing your point and you are going to rip this all apart.
  22. I can see your point but if he takes on lets say 10 jobs over 2 weeks and non of them pay immediately or within his 28 days of terms this can lead to a large cash flow failure. I don't agree with people dissing whoever you subby for because he hasn't paid you at the end of the day. Your a business and he has 28 days to pay you. Maybe he should of made clear that cash-flow has been an issue due to late payments. This way the ball is in your court to decide if your happy to work and get paid later or not work and find work somewhere else. Its become more frequent in my experience of companies, commercial and private taking forever to pay. But when they do your cheque should be up there to be cleared and you get a good payout from it. On of my arb buddies recently has around 10k of outstanding payments from around 20 clients i feel for him as his available funds i.e to pay for subbies, fuel etc is taking a hit. But he told me and im ok just to wait another week until they pay, not ideal but thats business. Hope this gets sorted quickly for you but hey got to roll with the punches no one said being self employed was easy.
