  1. That's what I meant, if I had have done a business plan when I first set out I would still be in my dead end 9-5! I try not to look at numbers too much....puts me off spending!
  2. Hi Steve, give you a bell tomorrow. (weds) John.
  3. Sorry...answer for ukminch.
  4. We're in Devon, namely Torbay, as for rates it seems to differ as to where you are based in the country, again I was hoping for a bit of advice, cheers. John.
  5. Hi, sorry if I haven't been clear with my question, I have done nothing more in the last few months than think whether I need a cherry picker or not, but I also had the same dilemma when I bought my chipper and not once regretted it, all I wanted was a little advice and maybe some re-assurance from guys on here with a lot more experience than myself, I just want to do things right and try and have a plan for every eventuality, John.
  6. Many thanks for your help, do you get to hire your cherry picker out often?, I don't have enough work for it so the hiring out i hope will help with payments. John
  7. Ive just invested in a cabstar cherry picker 17.5 cte, I will use the picker for my own work but looking at hiring it out if I don't need it, do any of you guys have experience in this, are there any insurance companies who specialise in these vehicles? If anyone could give me any advice I would be gratefull.
  8. Very poor for logs last year, it was far too mild and wet, got loads of wood so I'm hoping for a harsh winter.
  9. I've found it doesn't matter, just turn up, do a good job and people will remember your name no matter what you call yourself, good luck with business adventure and don't devalue the trade by pricing too low!
  10. Stobarts pick up woodchip for biomass but at the moment there is a massive amount of chip around, apparently Stobarts aren't collecting until current levels go down.
  11. Strong sales mid last year but dropped right off late last yr to present, we have had a few sales recently due to the cold snap but I can't think about retiring just yet! Where do you guys get the most joy from advertising? Word of mouth, yp, etc. What's the Thomson book like, agent getting on my case, considering giving them a try.
  12. My sales were good early part of last year but have dropped right off now, as for reducing prices....no chance, logs don't go out of date so eventually they will sell.
  13. Get down your local council tip and bung it on a weigh bridge, job done
  14. Logs and woodchip (free tip) tq5 south Devon.
  15. Strings for yasmin- Tin Tin Out.
  16. Cracking job ranger(s), I've only come across needles once on a site clearance, I threw my toys out of my pram big time! Looking at what you guys deal with daily I feel my actions were perhaps (definately)over the top, really enjoying your thread, keep up the good work but most of all be careful when dealing with the aftermath of these mindless scroats!
  17. Haven't had much in the way of call outs but have seen the tree firm contracted to the council everywhere! Last saw them removing a fallen ash which they have driven 25 mile to get to, same tree aprox half mile from my front door! Aaahhhh!
  18. That's crap! I will keep my eyes open, hope you get it back.
  19. id employ him; didnt see alot wrong!
  20. I use heras fencing, make sure you don't just rely on the clips to keep corners secure as these will not hold if you have a decent amount of wood stored, I tie the corners up but I have read that ratchet straps work well, nothing worse than leaving your yard pleased with yourself to find the next day one of the sides pushed out, bloody nightmare trying to get back in place.

    Spiking

I prefer to have spikes strapped on, always got somewhere to stand!
  22. As you know I've changed to crew cab from a basic tipper, I found unless you can get one already converted the costs are too great, the strong box on top of the tipper bed doesn't work nor does it if it's under the tipper bed, great design when empty!, I have found that what you currently have is the best set up for ease of accessibility and security, what ever you decide good luck and thanks for you're help with photos.
  23. Many thanks, I had overlooked that! :blushing:How much does this modification increase the premiums by?
