  5. picked my shiney new carlton 2010 up from orange plant last week. first time ive took it out today! so far im impressed ok so its hard graft but it makes mince meat of stumps:thumbup1:
  6. i use the dynema kit only tried the velcro once and it seems fiddely and i dont think it would last 5 mins! also its lots easier and quicker to clip into a crab on the dynema. i use a petzl cambium saver at the moment. and as for rope i tried 13 mm but it wouldnt self tend at all so i swapped to 11.5mm tachyon and it runs through like a dream well worth the money
  7. I can't knock it really. I use my left hand on it as well as my right doesn't matter really. The only time I nearly threw it thru chipper was when I came down and there was a small holly tree which I managed to swing into ouch! And a small branch some how knocked the clutch and I fell about 4 foot before It released and grabbed the rope! I was only 5 foot up tho so didn't hurt much! Only my pride as the next door neighbours were watching
  8. After climbing om my sj for over 2 months now i decided to leave it at home today and opted for good old prussic! i thought i wouldnt move around lots in the smallish cherry we dismantled so the prussic would be fine:thumbdown: How wrong could i of been any form of movement be it up or down out on limbs seemed a million times harder! i had no cambium saver in so i was fighting friction i needed two hands on the rope to advance the prussic where as the sj i could have steadied myself with 1 hand whilst tending slack with the other. the only good thing that came out of this was the fact id trod in dog crap and ended up with it all over my rope an hitch! if it was allover my sj i would of been gutted

  14. Ive got approx 1.5 acres of hawthorne to clear from the edge of a piece of unused land. they are all over grown and matted together! my idea was jcb 3cx in rip em all out and burn on site. dont think felling and chipping is a realistic option. how would or have you gone about this before?
  15. The local plant nursery has just started buying cord in an processing it and I know for a fact mine are cheaper. I think its them who has had a moan because he can't come close to my prices! I wouldn't mind but I've been selling logs way before they even thought about trying it! Makes me laugh how some people do anything to try and drop you in it!
  16. I got a letter from the council saying that somebody has reported me for selling logs from my property! and that i have not applyed for planning permission to change the usage of the property. however all the logs on our property are for our own use as we have a log burner! i do have a sign on the gate advertising logs and my tree business but all the logs i sell come from a yard i rent! can the council make me take the signs off my own gate
  17. After my first year of setting myself up in business i think i have never been more stressed out as i am now! As i still work part time for somebody else ive been working towards going fully self employed. now trying to balance 2 jobs running a business renovating our first house sacking somebody along with everything else really seems to be on my mind 24-7. how did you manage when you first set up? and what do you do to switch off?
