  5. I priced a job at a local hospital last week. just found out they have accepted my quote but before i can proceed they need a written method statement which includes: o what work is to be carried out o how that work will be carried out o a risk assessment of the procedures (this includes use of ladders, saws, chemicals etc) We will also need to see a Public Liability Insurance document and COSHH information for any chemicals used on site. as this is the first comercial job ive ever put in for i have no idea what the above is nor how to write 1! please help!!!
  6. which one do you use and is it any good? im fed up of filing by hand. cheers
  7. its nice to see people are passionate about their livelyhood. i started this thread because i strongly believe that this should NOT be going on through any la. I find it extremely unfair that the "new competition" has the upper hand from the word go. because councils are such powerfull competetors i feel potential NEW customers would be drawn to them because they are all long established and no fly by nite firm. put it this way you get 2 flyers through your door advertising legit tree work 1 is from YOU a small firm most probably unknown to new customers the other is from the local la who EVERYBODY has heared of who the customer knows will have insurance qualifications tackle to do the job and the customer knows will not dissapear when theyve been paid. who would you ring? Oh by the way that 20% you pay on every job u bust your nuts doin has just paid for your competitions advertising, equipment, wages, fuel etc! Im not trying to start an all out war nor point fingers at council employees "e ven thought they are mostly bone idle:lol:" this goes way above their heads its the pen pushers who are sat in their comphy office chair sweating about loosing their jobs who are doing anything they possibly can to keep that 50 grand merc sat on their drives even if it means crapping on US the little guys.
  8. I think somthing should be done! im sick of just rolling over and grinning through my teeth before they had just 1 hand in our pockets now its 2! they do us by taxing us to death and now they are nicking our work before we get chance to even make a living:thumbdown:
  9. problem is though they cant afford for it to fail! especially now theyve had their budgets cut. judging by most of the councils previous jobs ive seen i wouldnt let them cut my back lawn
  10. just found out from a friend of mine that our local council have dropped lots of flyers off advertising their services to members of the public! 1 job i know they have won is a 50 linear metre hawthorne hedge that wants trimming 2 meters tall council put £1400 on said job and won it . now im wundering why they are allowed to compete for potential jobs me or any of you could be doing? especially when WE the tax payer are buying their fuel, machines, equipment and paying wages! now yes some of us do compete against local authority for jobs, but WE arent getting any handouts from tax payers money:thumbdown: does this happen anywhere else or is there any rumors of this happening where you are?
  11. thats for your help i shall give the council a ring
  12. So am i restricted in what I can do with said tree? Or can I reduce, thin fell etc?
  13. What do I need to do if I wish to carry out work on a tree in a conservation area?
  14. thanks everyone for your advice, think i will give that sbk a go
  15. how much per litre is garlon 4 an sbk? most cost effective
  16. i need some stump killer for some stumps i cant get the grinder to, ive never bought stump killer before what should i use? ive got my spray ticket so i dont want no watered down garden centre rubbish! what do you use? thanks.
  17. yes! just looking for advice
  18. i was hypothetically speaking
  19. that is true, the bits that will be coming off will be fairly small so i dont think they would do any damage if the roof was boarded
  20. only if i dont break anything:001_tt2:
  21. i havent got the job yet and i havent put a price in! my only idea was to overboard the conservatories so i have thought about it! i was asking for advice, maybe someone has been in the same situation!
  22. maybe a narrow one but id rather explore other options first then its not extra cost thats getting passed onto the customer
  23. that was my only idea nick! wasnt sure if it would work though
  24. so ive got a crown reduction to do on a large maple, below it is 2 conservatories one either side its approx 50 foot tall the branches arent strong enough for me to climb out on them and "cut and chuck" so i can only reach them with my pole saw. i cant just cut and drop because of the conservatories below but i cant get close enough to tie them off! what would you do?
