  1. ive soaked them in wd40 tonight ready for tomorrow! its a seriously **** design all the newer engines have mounting plates on the side for easy access
  2. they have sheared off about 5 mil inside the sump so i cant weld onto it
  3. so it seems that lately its 1 problem after another with my chipper! 1st no trailer brakes! then new feed roller! then new feed roller wouldnt work! blades knackered! serviced it and now theres 8 mounting bolts that mount the engine to the chasis they have all sheared off and are stuck inside the engine "they are not flush with the engine" ive managed to get 1 out in 2 hours of trying! ive drilled them but some of them just will not budge!
  4. blow off valve??
  5. i shall have another look tomorrow and see what i can find
  6. yeah its not the anvil on the flywheel thats the problem its the infeed roller and on my chipper their is no anvil on that...now you mention that tho i think the blades could do with replacing/sharpening...im thinking that new blades would make smaller chips less likely to jam...maybe?!?
  7. ive got an old kwik chip 222 and afer replacing the bottom infeed roller i took it out today for a test run it definatly drags the brash in easier however the bottom roller keeps stopping and i have to reverse the rollers to free it up! ive tried everything and the conclusion ive came to is that large pieces of chip are getting stuck between the spikes on the new roller and jamming it against the machine! i cant see anyway to remedy this as their is no adjustment on the roller...ideas? btw the machine is a little tired but i dont think power is an issue
  8. thanks for that billy
  9. it has been a really dry year though and where the tree is growing is on the top of a steep slope so most of the moisture is going to go to lower ground!
  10. So i went to look at a job yesterday it was a faitly big silver birch growing about 10 foot away from the front of a house. the front wall of the house was cracked and the flags round it were all lifted oh and their was a small retaing wall near the tree that was also lifted. anyway the owner of the house had a structural engineer out and he says that because the foundations are clay and its been such a dry year the tree is sucking moisture out the ground and causing the clay to sink just enough to damage the building. ive never come across this before! i know that roots can sometimes cause heave but unsure about the other?

well ive only been working for myself just over 6 months now i do so many days for myself and the rest on a farm wich has worked out really well and ive had plenty of work from family and friends then friends of friends and so on. but where as before i had 4 weeks in advance booked in im getting less and less! advets in papers round here dont get much return at all! so ive got someone building me a website ive also got a sign made what im going to put up in the corner of a field wich overlooks a very busy road so hopefully that should get more work in. gonna advertise in those local to you books 2. as for flyers i was dead against them purely because we get so many through our letterbox from out "traveller friends" but then again I AM fully qualified and insured and i dont dump my rubbish in a layby down the road so am sure if i put fully qualified insured etc then that sets me apart straight away. think im going to give it ago, if it doesnt work out then i know not to do it again.

  15. is there any self study courses i can do related to tree care, diseases, fungi, tree species etc where i can gain an actual recognised qualification at the end? id love to do an rfs course but they all seem to be day release and i cant afford not to be working 5 days.

Ive just got my "new to me van" on the road after spending all my spare time doing it up and making chip box. the problem is ive had to sell my car so this is my work/riding about vehicle and as i live on a busy main road i have to park the van in a layby outside my house. Good for advertising but not good for all the crooks that keep eyeing it up as they drive past! ive spot welded the steel frame on the tipper and where ive bolted the ally on ive welded the nuts on too! ive got a steering lock on an 1 of those clutch claw things on as a deterent. apart from alarms what else is there i could do to make it harder to nick? ideas????
