  1. I keep toying with the tractor idea, i have drove them since leaving school and like you say they are an effective tool. We cover a large area so to and from site mite be an issue unless it went on a low loader, suppose a 50k box is a drive-able speed. what are valtras like? i have only ever driven 1 once
  2. I got something similar made up by the lad who does our sign writing, only cost £50
  3. Climbing = pain, dragging = pain, chipping = more pain, moving log = swearing and more pain. & ivy thrown in there = a bad day I once felled a 30 foot 1 and dragged chipped the lot myself on saturday morning in the summer because nobody would come in! never again
  4. We seem to be doing bigger and bigger site clearance jobs, but in all honesty we are not geared up as good as we should be. What tackle would you invest in? im not talking crane fed chipper size, maybe tracked chipper wagon skid steer?
  5. Did you make the flail attachment ? pictures please
  6. What's the most complex joinery job you have ever done? I have just spent a good hour measuring for trellis off a stone wall with a pergola and decking! The garden is on a slope and curves around so a million measurements was needed
  7. 4.4 tonne truck isn't worth the hassle of going down the o licence route, you want at least 7.5 tonne. You don't need a tachometer if working within 50 km of base, you will need an operators centre has to be big enough to drive in and drive out no reversing out. It has to be advertised in local paper and have no objections. I paid about £800 and got a local firm to apply for mine, it was much easier especially when we were flat out with work
  8. It actually extended out from about 6 feet to 12, cool bit of kit.
  9. Gardeners, grounds maintenance firms usually come across a fair few stumps ring around and make yourself known. Same as wot just takes time.
  10. I enquired about a tracked 190 with green plant and although it was 0% their was a fee of around £100 on top and it had to be paid off in 4 years
  11. few from today big dead Beech dismantled, medium sized Ash dismantled and a horrible conifer reduced in height and trimmed up. Was supposed to get a 26 metre truck mount but they sent a 45 metre one instead
  12. You wont go far wrong with a transit. paid £5000 for mine 5 year ago and its paid for its self over and over again, we have outgrown ours now but it has done us proud.
  13. If that sells i may have to reevaluate what goes on our bonfire pile.
  14. Mine is a 2009 and it does the same, not to the extent that you cant undo the cap, i usually take it off so it doesnt keep sucking the tank in. had a car that did the same
  15. That has not always being free thought has it?
  16. Cool i will give the shim a try, plenty of grease goes on the machine as always. cracking machine...just wish it had tracks
  17. The bottom in feed roller on my 2009 tw190 has slid over to the left and is rubbing against the tin work on the machine. I keep clearing the crap out that gets stuck down 1 side but to no avail. Is there a fix for this problem?
  18. We've only had a few frosty days up here. Working in t shirt again today.
  19. I think most of em don't charge you anything for the first year or so, they let you get settled in and then the charges apply. I recon they work on the assumption that after a period of time most people can't be arsed to swap accounts and stay where they are
  20. As this man just said I'm not saying I don't get paid in cash, I'm sayin I avoid paying it in to avoid charges.
  21. Yes I know, it's all above board. Why get charged to pay it in to use my card to buy fuel etc or bank transfer to pay wages? We do a lot of fencing so I buy materials in cash and get paid via bank transfer. I keep s record of every job we've done with customer details payment method etc.
  22. Good idea, I got rid of my old accountant because they weren't very helpful! My new 1 is offering help and advice and says that setting up a limited company will save me £££s in the long run.
  23. Barclays m8 charge me if I pay cash or cheque but bank transfers are free.
  24. Why did it increase so much? I have a business account that charges me but if your clever you work around it, no cash goes in gets spent on fuel wages consumables etc. any cheques go in and gave to pay 80 p per cheque I tr and get most people to do a bank transfer as they don't cost nowt
  25. What are the pro's & cons to becoming a limited company over a sole trader?
