  1. that set up looks great Joy, I have just moved into an up fronted barn for processing half my timber. All the yard is concrete and working area under cover. makes such a massive difference compared to our other yard thats open on top of a hill!! after muddling wheat into mud and shite for 2 months, makes such a difference being under cover all the best
  2. HI there, me and a fabication friend are making the exact same thing at the weekend, let me know if you are interested.
  3. Thanks for the tips, very interesting. Who are you flying with if you dont mind me asking?
  4. Who did you fly with if you dont mind me asking?
  5. ha i know, noticed straight away and now cant find how to edit the bloody title!
  6. Read with great interest, various arbtalk members travelling and living in NZ. Me and girlfriend planning on a 5-6 week trip there after christmas. We have only ever had european holidays so bit daunted by the flights, any advice would be great. The cheapest we have found tend to be with the longest stops, 12 hours in some places. Can you do anything in this time apart from mull around a strange airport do you think?! Thanks, this is all very daunting to us so any info would be much appreciated.
  7. thats scary! what else do you know steve?
  8. It will if he cuts same size logs every year after year after year. but we all know a lot more timber will go into a bag of 6" logs then 14" big buggers.
  9. Evening Chaps, Just wondering what the traffic is like through the Arbtalk Firewood Directory is like at the moment? I joined up last year but it has expired now and I will probably renew shortly but just curious to how others are finding it for orders and enquiries right now? It paid for itself easily last year for me. Stevie how is it rating on search engines etc right now/
  10. I sell 0.6cm bulk bags for £65, and loose 1.2cm for £100 and £150 for 1.8cm
  11. that £120 has paid for one of the blokes daily wage i suppose so not to bad if you look at it like that.
  12. when we doing hedge row coppicing we process straight into vented cube bags and load on to trailer to then stack to season at the yard. saves a lot of extra handling for us.
  13. where abouts was the Simon? Dont no anyone around me that cheap!
  14. just out of interest how do you tip the onion crate out?
  15. I would definitely sell that as 2cube. I 85ifor tipper is 1.8 cube when nicely heaped up and thats what i sell it as. Wouldnt get any customers if I advertised it as say 1.2cube stacked etc!
  16. this is true. something like a potato box is a fair and accurate way of measuring logs out imo
  17. Nightmare isnt it. Personally, I sell everything in multiples of bulk bags. So my small load is 0.6 cube and delivered in a bulk bag, regular is 1.2cube delivered in my truck and large load is 1.8cube and delivered in my trailer. I think most of my customers no what a bulk bag looks like and this way they can get an image of the amount of logs they will get whilst talking to me on the phone. But yes, like you say. Until everyone sells in the same fashion its hard work!

    wellies

My girlfriend had the neoprene hunters, she wore them every day all day in her horsey job and they didnt last a year. very poor quality imo. I have the neo Aigles and been fantasic for nearly 3 yrs, i wear them most days on the farm and up the wood yard. great wellys
  19. I have got a good 50t of Elm that has been barned stored for 3 yrs and needs processing this winter, its seriously hard and dry!! Bloody lovely stuff!
  20. i think we went pasted it. We stayed at The Travellers Rest on the a37. lovely part of the country.
  21. Jon, I was down nr Shepton Mallet this weekend for a wedding, Lottisham to be precise. Is that nr you? Christ there was some rain Friday evening!
  22. No one has really mentioned a good saw bench yet. I have a good solid bench and 10t Browns splitter, really good combination. Most of the cord I have is to big for a small/medium processor. So we chainsaw most cord into 1m lengths, then split into billets, then either stack billets or run billets straight over the saw bench. we can do 3cm in a really good hour, me and my bro. Important to have the kit set up properly to minimise walking around to much and keep bending over picking timber up to a minimum. we have a table between splitter and bench to keep timber at waist hieght.
  23. i like that alot, how many cube does the back hold and what do you charge mate? i was al set to buy a l200 king cab tipper last yr but deal fell through.
