  1. What sort of money are we talking about for this machine?
  2. Im a VAT reg farmer with firewood on the side, definately worth doing in my position. VAT back on cord, machinhery etc but only charge 5% on logs delivered to end user so quite easy to include in the sale price etc. I definately get more VAT back then I charge on firewood
  3. I started out in a similar way matey and yeah i would say give it a go. If you do landy pick up loads and only have to pay a tenner for the wood and the yard space etc then you will definately be making a few quid there. Say do 2 loads on a saturday morning on your own, £20 to the boss, £20 fuel for truck, £20oils fuel chain ware etc....£20 other costs, £120 for a sat morning aint bad if selling for £100 a load!
  4. Dan i have been running my browns splitter of my mf 6480 (170hp) recently, on tick over and its very fast! you wouldnt want it returning anyquicker!!
  5. I've got a Browns splitter same as Dans, very very good splitter. Although I have just had some serious welding done to it
  6. I was going to but afraid the weather has put me off
  7. crikey i wish! no, my GF moved out here for her work and im hoping to build a relationship with the landowner and help with his woods etc. he is keen for me to build my firewood here
  8. harsh winter again and i reckon you'll be running the odd load out again! yeh not to bad thanks, just moved to near newmarket and in process of setting up another log yard. Really enjoying stuff! Wet winter good for your business?
  9. I am always interested in buying cord around the bury clare sudbury area, pm me with your rough location and maybe we can have a chat.
  10. yeah i would imagin thats why most of it has been stacked in that locked yard, i go past everyday to the farm and still a fair bit of big stuff on the deck!
  11. I'm really not sure, its a complete clear fell isnt it. Might be for safety but I wouldnt say thats the busiest slip in suffolk would you?! And I doubt the road is being made wider either. yeah there is a fair heap in that yard, and the forewarder has been loader now for a few days.
  12. do you mean at barrow? a lot of timber has come down there. im right on their doorstep, would also love to get my hands on a 100t plus!
  13. HI David, Every man and his dog would love a free supply of wood! Majority of professional firewood suppliers are paying £40 a ton plus for green timber, plus haulage to their yard. I'm afraid if you are looking for a good supply of quality firewoodfrom a professional outfit, free or cheap aren't words I'd be using!
  14. Still cant decide on processors, was all set for a 1x37 but have heard some stories that they aren't overly strong?! Just seeing what other arbtalk members think I should consider for around £10k Thanks
  15. I cant stress enough how easy it is to raise a few animals yourself, whether it be pigs, sheep, chickens etc. We do a few pigs every couple of months and the meat is to die for. Dont tend to buy much meat at all now from super markets.
  16. Yeah thats my feeling to, I am always trying to make things that bit easier for myself and a tipper is one of them things!
  17. Just been on there website and had a look, that hilux looks smart imo. It was them who let me down with the l200 tipper. They buy the trucks and get a local company close to them to make the tippers, they do a good job imo.
  18. Well when i say by hand, I really mean when i open the tail gate a 1/4th of the load falls out, i then get in the buck and push the rest out with my feet...doesnt take long at all tbh.
  19. I nearly bought a l200 club cab tipper 2 yrs ago but deal fell through, now got a standard 59 l200 club cab. Cant helping thinking a tipper would be a lot less work when un loading logs, but is the 2k rough price of a tipper conversion worth it? I can unload my truck in less then 2 mins by hand, so the tipper wont save me much time. If im being honest I think the tipper element for me would just make my firewood business loo that bit more professional (?!). Any views would be greatly welcome, thanks
  20. Lovely little JD tractor you have there Dan! is it a 63?
  21. Thanks for the feed back. i do think an avant would suit the firewood game well and heaping up brush etc. not interested in loader tractor, i already have 2 tractors and could stick a loader on them but need something more nimble to work in tight sheds and in the woods etc...puls i could stick the avant on back of my car trailer and take to jobs/hire out etc
  22. Im looking at an Avant mini loader for my firewood business and for jobs around the farm. Would appreciate other owners opinions. I was originally looking at a skidsteer but I think an Avant would be more desirable to hire out if I was to buy one. Thanks
