  1. thats what i have been doing but just seems a bit of a faff?!
  2. How does everyone sharpen their processor chains? The sales rep who sold me the machine suggested buying a small electric sharpener but i have never used one. Are they any good? There is no way I can sharpen the chain on the processor bar so maybe his suggestion is best?
  3. yep i agree with all of that Bob, when i do work for landowners/farmers..i always buy the wood off of them by the volume. fair to both parties then. Not so sure why cord always seems to be per t?! £65 was roadside, suppose would be around £75-80 with haulage.
  4. yeh i hope so! Kilworth been very good, Andy demo'd it for me and sold it to me that day more or less! Couple of teething problems but takes a while to get use to any new machine.
  5. I can understand the need to keep customers happy if you have run out, but i really cant see how anyone can mkae money out of buying in seasoned cord, I have heard £65t roadside for seasoned cord.
  6. Hard to say Simon. We did my truck and trailer (3cube) in an hour today, and that was cross cutting cord wood into 3 bits as well, so i could manually lift onto the intake conveyor. And that was dad on the processor controls who hasnt really used the machine yet so is a bit slow at it. And he hit a nail with so had to swap chains over (ten min job). Being organised makes a huge difference. If all wood is sorted into rough sizes and there is a loader to feed the log deck i reckon i could do 5-7 cube an hour. Its like all things, the more you use it the quicker and more efficient you get etc. I havent got either of my yards organised yet as all wood was delivered when i had the old set up, but now when i bring wood in i will organise things more efficiently
  7. I would do a 14hr day, but i said 8 hrs as a minimum etc!
  8. yes i have that log deck as well. did you hire from Kilworth? also have the swivel conveyor so can fill large trailers or multiple bags without moving anything. I want to make up a large deck out of an old massey trailer, to feed the small deck if that makes sense?!
  9. yeh im not the cheapest, but then i dont want to be. i need £100 operator, £100 processor and £100 for tractor. Doesnt leave much left over to cover anything else! And i wouldnt let processor out on it owns.
  10. same as my machine. 25t is some going. did u have a crane feeding it?
  11. I will be charging aroubd £40ph for processor, tractor, me and fuel. Minimum of 8hr day.
  12. i run my mf 6480 on tick over for my tajfun. its a a 540 spline but i run it on 1000 no worries at all. uses next to no fuel
  13. SPoke to Kilworth this morning who supplied the machine and replacement being sent out straight away, good service indeed
  14. Doubt they would even know what a bar looks like! they have been russish over harvest!
  15. Yes greens will be my first call in the morning. WOnder if bury or newmarket have anywhere that may stock them?
  16. Bent the bar on my Tajfun processor yesterday and need to get hold of another asap as was suppose to be contract processing tomorrow (yes I know I should of had a spare). Went to Does and A&G yesterday, and although helpful, was told by both its an unusual bar and would take 3 to 4 days to get one in. Any ideas of shops in Suffolk area that may have one in stock? Any help would be great
  17. Doubtfull there is 2cube there. my single cab old brava was 1.2 cube heaped up. and dry logs weighed around 550kgs
  18. and how can you fill 4 cube bags (that will stretch and be more like 1.2cube) from a slightly heaped 2cube (well lets say 2.2cube) trailer load....
  19. this has left me quite confused...
  20. tbh honest i dont really care enough to go into all that. its not a witch hunt, just ponering over to buy a load of off him! thanks though
  21. yeh i agree, but in this instance he sells bulk in truck and trailer not bags
  22. in all serious though, if there is a guy down the rd selling logs half the price you are, doesnt it make perfect sense to buy him out of his stock? in the process you would be buying most of his customers as well....I no its not something that in reality happens very often but shall it makes sense!
  23. The guy who demo'd mine made a big effort to express how vital it is to keep these machines clean and free of build ups of saw dust and kindling type off cut bits. The rack leading to out loading conveyor does get small bits of timber jammed in it quite quickly. just have to be switched on and not push things to hard. I find the 8way knife needs to be constantly moved up and down according to log size to avoid cutting small bits which could cause jams, not sure how easy this is on the 380 (400 has buttons on joystick for this)
