  1. I wasnt really interested in labour costs, total cost of firewood sale rtc, as them to variables can be huge. Was just interested in others %of timber cost p3r sale. And seems that who has replied are all simialr.
  2. Thanks for thr ingeresting rrplies. Seems most who replied are around ghe 25-30% mark also.
  3. Been messing around with some prices and budgets for next year today, and been ultering prices and potential profit to compensate for cord wood to keep rising. My loads (I have 3 different cubic metre sizes) currently cost me 20% of the sale in timber. I dont think thats too bad, obviously the more cheaper timber I can source the better but if im honest if the % was to be much more (say 30%) I dont think id keep pushing the firewood game. Just intrigued what others are working out the timber per load costs are. Makes me wonder how/why some guys are cheaper then me and source all there timber in the cord at a premium.
  4. Im on ebay now looking, just wondering if anyone on here could help first that was all!
  5. Dont suppose anyone has a few vented bags they wanna sell? I dont really need loads and the big companies need a minimum order which I understand. Im going to go down the potato box route I think, just need a few bags to for an up coming job. Can collect from reasonable distance from newmarket. Thanks very much
  6. benefits...all of the above, plus sunlight wont ruin them in 2 yrs. ibc cages are ok, but the ibcs arent really cheap and farmers are wising up to them being worth something. i see the boxes lasting 10-12yrs, easily repairable in that time and worth something at the end also. im gonna buy a few just to suss them out, i may beable to buy the raw materials and make my own up. Just way im thinking at the moment, log boxes is best solution for me.
  7. ones i am looking at are 1.7 cube and an eye watering £50 each
  8. Just been speaking to a a company that makes these wooden log boxes, same as potato boxes but have larger and better air flow. Am going to get a few to try, anyone else use them instead of bags?
  9. we had a month cruising round south island in a camper, was soooo good. back home tonight, sooo shite here!
  10. Whilst travelling we stopped last week at this firewood merchants, was right on the side of the road so couldnt miss it! The owner was a sound chap, and came over and chatted with me for quite a while. It was funny how similar pros and cons of running a firewood business exist in both countrys. I was very impressed with his set up and professionalism. He does around 2000 cube plus another 1600 cube processing a year. I was very impressed by his roadside sign, stating what timber he had and what level on dryness it was.
  11. It is right now but will start offering a mixed stove mix in the new yr, that will be £100 and all hw going up to £110-£115
  12. 80 is not enough imo. My truck is the same as yours, l200 king cab (altho mine is newer shaoe), and I easily sell at 100 a load. Heaped right up its around 1.2cube.
  13. How much were they each? I emailed hk timber regarding the new log boxes but 2nd hand tste boxes gotta be cheaprr!
  14. My half load is 0.6cube so I always drop that off in a .6 dumpie. They are light enough to pull about, you will struggle with a cube bag full though!
  15. Yeh that all makes sense mate. In an ideal world id have a small crane pick up buck to lift bags in and out. I do like bags for ease of handling, not cheap though! Got a loader on my tractor now so might give them more thought again.
  16. Jay I have a got a brilliant demo 0.7 cube vented bag you can look at if you want. I was gonna buy some but min order was too high for me, could go in together? Why do you want to start using bags though when you can load bulk with avant?
  17. Yeh kilworth been great. The small bits we hold manually till the guard then throw the longer length on iur own fire. I will get ariund to making the jaw a fraction longer.
  18. 13k seems a lot but its way above the other makes in the sense of build quailty. Now I have one I wouldnt considered spend 8 or 9k on a much weaker machine.
  19. One word of advice, the jaw that holds the timber is bout an inch to small so dont put real small s5uff thro or the chain will snatch it and throw the chain off.
  20. How yiu getting on jay? I thought bout the3000 deck but went with smaller deck In the end as we have an old fergie trailer to make deck with.
  21. Where are you Leigh? I sometimes get offered timber so I want or fancy. I deliver anywhere from sudbury to newmarket. Firewood seems to have gone mad round here this winter. I have sold 300% more firewood then this time last year.
  22. we use a browns splitter, works well...think its ten ton
  23. If i was you i would keep it all yourself, if your capture the firewood market around that area 100t will soon go. IF not, Nick can you run me a load up from there? Not far to me, just up m11/a11
